SWAC spring football outlook

Pretty decent write up.

G-Men, PVAMU & TXSU will fight it out for supremacy in the West. Grambling has the edge with their QB but it will not be easy.

The East is up for grabs with Alcorn being the favorite but don't be surprised if AAMU, Bama State or JSU emerges from the East.

There in no telling who will emerge from the EAST. I counted Alcorn out last year but they limped their way to Houston since the rest of the EAST was so sorry. As a coach, you can't count out Jenkins but if he don't win this year, it may be time to ASU to go in a new direction. If AAMU wins the EAST, the whole conference is sorry. JSU has a LOT of work to do to be a good team but if the EAST is as bad as it was last year, we have a shot.

Article just threw Southern under the bus smh.

No disrespect to UAPB GOLDEN LIONS but I do believe the SWAC West will be a dogfight. These teams have improved: Grambling, Southern, PV, and Texas Southern. Every last game they all play w/ each other will be a dogfight, imho.

They threw us under the bus last year as well. We are used to it. Folks are enamored with other schools. Which is cool. All it does is fuel those student athletes to perform at a high level when they see the same write up year after year. The West will indeed be tough. No easy games.

TP how if AAMU win the east the whole conference sorry?

Oh yeah, this is the STATS spring roundup. They buried Southern last spring as well.

The West will be brutal this year. I see the West representative coming out there with at least one loss — a divisional loss. However, I'm leaning toward the SWAC West representative coming out of it with two conference losses.

This isn't a predicted order of finish.
1. Ark-PB has a decent QB, but not enough talent around to build a consistent challenger.
2. Grambling has the best QB in the conference, but gotta shore up some things at WR and both lines.
3. PV seems to be lurking in the weeds. It will be interesting to see how they look going into the summer.
4. Southern has the 2nd-best QB in the conference, but loses conference's all-time leading rusher, SU's all-time leading receiver and field-position flipper, and basically the middle of its O-line.
5. Texas Southern could be scary good on defense this season, but you gotta score points in the SWAC to win games. Right now, it doesn't look like they have enough firepower to complement their defense. I think TSU is one year off from really challenging for the SWAC title, but I do expect them to make more noise this season.

I'm not worried about receivers (Chambers, Simms plus McIntosh could be a sleeper). Every other position is open and we still need a RB and something that actually resembles an O-line. I might go to a spring practice and/or game but I won't put much stock into what I see because the JUCO guys haven't hit campus yet so most of the DL, OL and possibly QB could be new when we travel to Fargo in September.

I agree with that assessment.

AAMU will be 3rd or lower if Spady cant figure out how to move the ball down the field and score.

If the end zones were on the sideline, we would have led the FCS in scoring because all his pass plays are to the sideline.

He wont have Jones leftovers to bail him out either. If he's smart, he'll turn that offense over to Totten

Note: TSU's starting QB went down for the season in the 2nd Qtr of the first game of the season vs. PV last year. TSU finished the season with a significant step down at QB. The offense looked very explosive under QB-1, all be it for a very brief period. From what I understand he was given a medical red shirt and should be even better than the glimpse we saw last year being his second year in the system.

I thought Christophe graduated? Is he in grad school?

The question for TSU will be whether they can put up enough points against Grambling and Southern, regardless of who is at QB. I think TSU has some positive momentum, but I need to see them put up points this season and help that defense out

This again. Your offense looked like it was supposed to look like against a team who had no idea of what you were running. Prior to last season your OC or HC hadn't coached a game in years.

We'll see this year though.

LOL!!!!!!!!! We hear this same isht every year. gram tells us who they have and how they will be explosive, su cries that they are overlooked, tsu says that if so-so didn't get hurt in their 1st game that they would have made it to the finish line, msvu says that every one of their positions are open, aamu cries about their coach and then lists all their recruits they recruited the season, alcorn says they are the favorites, pvamu says they just wants to catch gsu, we don't know how the hell we will look, and pb is just quiet. Did I leave anyone out?

That's your spring football outlook.

Oh yeah, bama st. They always talk about their recruits and how this is their coach's year until he fires his whole staff and then is eventually let go.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha true true true true true true true true true true true true true true true true

Grambling has its football foot so far up in PV football's ass until it's become a permanent fixture lol. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D I get tickled when I hear a delusional PV fan speak of PV coming "close" to beating Grambling lol. I tell them "coming close ONLY counts in the games of horeshoes and hand-grenade toss. A loss is a loss and we've been catching Ls a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time from Gram. This isn't 1950...1960 nothing.... Shit."

Good on ya, for the most part. Although, your TSU comment is waaayyyyy off. We been saying for years "Man when TSU gets of probation and get a real coach".The injury thing hasn't really been TSU's problem Gross incompetence and sanctions have been.

Oh, you forgot to tell us the same ish THE says every year....

Please believe you still have no Idea what TSU's offense will look like in 2017. I doubt any balls will be hiked over the QB's head into the end zone this upcoming season. PV didn't beat TSU last year. TSU imploded after JC went down, which was the coaches fault because he should have someone at least in the mind set of a back up QB. But hey it was his first season and had a long way to go with what was left behind. For the second time (last year and this year) in a long time I am excited for the upcoming season. I know you pv folk are happy TSU plays a game before you meet TSU in the LDC. I hear your whole football coaching staff have already booked flights to FL.
