SWAC Releases 2004 All-SWAC Football Team

Gordon should have been 1st team (and received POTY consideration)... I think GSU's Mike Daigre (#26) should have been at least second team and Moffet wasn't a starter and got limited playing time down the stretch as a db. When he started he was the db of choice by offensive coordinators.

I hate sounding off on a kid like that...but he shouldn't have been chosen. I also thought Landers would share the honor with Edwards as Freshman of the year...

Joe Scott should have been RUNAWAY winner for defensive POTY. Didn't he win POTW honors like 7 times this year???

Ricks is the right choice for offensive POTY.

I say my boy Tyler Knight should have been on the 1st team somewhere, that boy is a tackling machine. Jarrete Prout should have been on 2nd team or something. Valley does have a very good linebacking corps.

want to know why Williams was not selected? really want to know?

I know! I know!

It's because he was left off the ballot by the SWAC office. He was nominated by ASU but when ballots went out, Williams wasn't on there. That's why Ricks got the award.

Ricks had a fine season. But it wasn't on the same level as Williams. The guy averaged 110 yards per game and rushed -- for the second straight year -- for more than 1,100 yards. And he's still got a game left.

If you want to forget the stats, that's fine too. Williams is the best all-around back in the conference. He's just as good at blocking and catching as he is at running. Anybody that needs to know how good he is, go watch the Alabama A&M game.

Bottom line: The kid got jobbed.

You have got to be fugging kidding me!!!! Tell me the SWAC didn't leave the kid's name off the list after he was properly nominated by his school.

Hell, I ain't surprised.

How does the SWAC leader in tackles NOT get named Defensive Player of the Year????

LB - Joseph Scott- Jackson State - 6-2, 230, Sr., Hattiesburg, MS

:smh:
The worst defense should always have the leader in tackles because they stayed on the field the longest.

You better not say it too loud or SU people will consider it hating, since you dare to say that somebody other than one of their players should have been POTY!

And indeed, Wms should have been POTY!

Ricks led us in rushing and passing. ASU could win without Williams(UAPB) but I know Southern could not win without Ricks. Stop being bias.

He wasn't the only one.

Before anyone starts arguing the merits of Williams over Ricks or vice-versa, I would also like to point out that Williams didn't even finish second in the POY voting.

That honor went to Donald Carrie.

Still think something wasn't screwed up?

Am I being biased because he's like family, or does anyone share my opinion that Mike Daigre (26) GSU should have been All-SWAC db. He did it all for GSU defensively, pass coverage, call defense, inspirational leader, #2 in team tackles and played near the line of scrimmage like a linebacker. Not only did Mike make tackles, he made vicious run stuffing tackles. Dude was like a linebacker playing safety...a lot of his tackles were in open field and stopped long gains before they could get started.

Oh by the way...check out the first defensive play of the BC. Dude put a smackdown on James Vernon (his homeboy) who had called Mike prior to the game for a little smack talk. Don't take that the wrong way...those Glen Oaks kids are close. Vernon works out with Tramon Douglas, Daigre, Marcus Randall.

JV wasn't 100% for the BC. He was only about 60%.

I wasn't trying to slight Vernon at all...he's a gamer and very talented. I knew about him at Glen Oaks High...was hoping he would have gone to Grambling. In open space he has the edge on Mike due to quickness but in a situation that he was placed in (near the line of scrimmage with the ball), Mike wins that matchup 10 times out of 9. Mike is hardnosed, tough, and strong as a mofo. Tireless energy and hits like a pro db.

I don't think so. He would never catch him, if JV was 100% he would have put a move on him a probably still be running.

Not on that play...Mike had sniffed that one out early and was on Vernon before he could even react. Mike studies film with a passion...he was waiting for that when yall went to the formation. How do I know... Mike told me that when yall came out in that alignment, he knew to key Vernon. BTW...that wasn't the only tackle he made on Vernon (but you did say Vernon was less than 100%). I know he definitely wasn't feeling to "pert" after that first hit. I'm amazed that he got up the way his head snapped and how hard Mike drove him on that tackle.

Funny thing is...I had been giving Mike a hard time because I felt he wasn't tackling the way we taught him in peewee ball. We always taught the players about the "double hit". The defender hits the carrier and follows through by stamping him on the turf. That gets the runners attention! Mike had a total of 10 tackles in that game...I saw quite a few of them that were impressive (including a big hit on #85 I believe who played tight end).

I don't care if he knew Vernon was getting the ball or not. A healty Vernon he never touches him.

He definitely "touched" his azz in the dome. Let me share something that I learned during the course of becoming a SON of Blood and Thunder!

Im not making excuses just stating the facts.

No, actually you are stating an opinion. Daigre knocking the isht out of Vernon was a fact...it's on tape.
