SWAC Players of the Week - WTF??

I would bet anything that in any other conference in the free world a player who had the type of game that Rowe did ( 179 return yards, TD, blocked a FG that was returned for a TD, forced a fumble) would have been player of the week.

You would lose that bet

The Quick answer to your question is ... Alabama State did not send in nominations for Player of the Week.

Nominations are due by 10a on Sunday ... ASU sent their's in on Monday.:bawling:

Dillon's performance was mentioned in the recaps, but IF a player is not nominated, we don't assume (azz outa you and me) the school wants the player nominated. He may have smacked the coach after the game or something.

Another thing ... should we make someone player of the week even if his nomination is not in  ... what do we say to the SIDs who submit their players on time even if they stay up late to get it done.  (last week, I actually had one report sent in at 5:47a on Sunday)

Just so you will know
The process goes like this ... We review the submissions and pull out the best performances ... We rank the performances by SWAC games, if they won, then the impact of the performance ... We go thru the same process for non-conference games (ranking them by division (D1-A, 1-AA, D-2, NAIA, D-3)

We try to recognize all notable performances by SWAC players. If someone does not make the POW, we try to list them as notables ... Grambling did not play this week, they played the week no one else did. The GSU nomination was "rolled over" to this week.

BOTTOM LINE
If they weren't nominated ... and we don't hear from the school (SID) ... they won't make the POW listing.

Call it unfair if you wish :bawling: but that's life on Sunday morning in the office.

Now I understand why Cedric Bowen of UAPB was not selected the specialist of the week. He returned a kickoff for a touchdown for 102 yards against Alcorn. Man,I don't know what to say about my home school.

The SWAC office can't even come up with a system to have a FULL CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT, I know you all do not expect then to literate enough to recognize an outstanding player @ a football game that they attend. COME ON NOW...CONSIDER THE SOURCE OF WHOM YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Remember this year everyone did not participate in the tournament, wait to see if that change next year after having 365 days to change.

Before you come back with a smart remark or irrational excuse from the SWAC office, if the WHITE CONFERENCES CAN INCLUDE EVERYONE, IT DOES NOT TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO COPY THIER SYSTEM! So don't try to insult my intelligence just because you don't measure up!:eek2:

Up until a few years ago, the swac did have all the teams in the conferance involved in the swac basketball tourny in the same venue. Who knows if it may return to that format in the future with the new commisioner in place.

mighty hornet
p.s.- why is someone from Gram Player of the Week, when they didn't have a game this week??????

Didn't read what SPRM said. they rolled that game over to the 1st games with everyone else.

Thanks for the great info SWAC PR Man. I agree with the policy of the SWAC. There is a deadline for everybody to meet. Get it in on time and your folks will be recognized. I also agree with the reason to not go off and make someone POW if they haven't been officially nominated by their school. SWAC PR Man is right, that person could have been excluded because of some type of discipline by the head coach or school. If a school wants their player to be considered, then they need to get their stuff in on time!!

About the Grambling player...

Wouldn't it have been rather shallow to name him player of the week when no one else played? I can imagine the ridicule from doing that.

The best thing was to include his nomination with the rest of them. Apparently, they felt the young man had a good enuff game to warrant the selection. I didn't see any of the other games so I can't say whether the did or didn't.

But yall need to get over this "they always favor Grambling" mentality. It ain't healthy!

Hey MB, I agree. You guys(GSU) are feeling the same haterade we(SU) got when we won 3 straight titles. Everyone felt like the conference was catering to SU. Now that GSU has the hardware, the focus is on you. Personally I thought the GSU LB played his azz off. He was the one bright spot in the game for GSU. That kid will probably make All-SWAC with that kind of talent.

The only slight I can see is with the ASU players. But SWAC PR man explained it. The rules are the rules. If the SWAC Prez's and ADs don't like the rules I am sure they have enough influence to have them changed.

No doubt the kid from Bama State had a monster game. Too bad his numbers didn't get sent in on time. If the requirement is that his SID send the nomination to the office then that's what they should do. Even if a fax machine is not available, I'm sure an on-line nomination by email could have been done. Don't the SID's travel to the games? I'm sure they have laptop...at least they should.

The kid from SU that won Special Team award wasn't a bad pick. There's something to be said for his numbers...especially taking the opening kickoff to he house!

Not taking anything from the Alcorn player or whomever it was that put up big numbers for tackling. But I think the voters were impressed by what they "saw" from the GSU player as opposed to what they read about the other guys. Televised games tend to leave an impression on people greater than what is read.

PR Man

I think the facts are obvious. The SWAC office is filled with them most
incompetent athletic administrators ever assembled. I dont know
where you guys get your common sense, but you need to take
it back or go get more.

Color it anyway you want, someone that didnt play this week
should NOT be considered for player of the week. Hell if you wanted
to give him the award that bad, you should have given it to him the
week they played the damn game. That way, we wont be the laughing
stock of the NCAA....AGAIN :redhot: But Im sure you rocket
scientist in that office never ever considered doing that did you?

You should hear how the locals on the radio and in the local media
talk about the SWAC office. And you know what?...I cant defend you.
I would like to defend you, but I cant....hell they are telling the truth.
This is just another example of your lazy, shufflin, backwards,
unprogressive ways. You guys make it hard and shameful
to be in the SWAC.

All I have to do to prove my point is to show the conference set
up next year and it goes to highlight how uncomplicated the SWAC
office is. The only thing you guys are remotely concerned about
is.....I dont know....What are you guys concerned about cause
the well being of the ENTIRE SWAC aint it.

Tell your boss I said that.....There is a word I want to use
to describe your office, but I was told not to use it anymore.
Lets just say it rhymes with "Moonish."

Dude....I cant stand this kinda crap.
And then they try to sell you some bullcrap
like its the ADs fault that a guy from last
week got picked for player of the week this week.
PR man....the next time you piss on my head.
please dont tell me its raining.

I remember when Kent threw for 600 yards and
8 TDs against Valley. They gave player of the
week to Randy Hymes who only had 150 yards
total offense. That week they issued an
apology saying they must have overlooked Kents
accomplishments. They didnt overlook a thing.
They did that on purpose just like they found a way
to give POW to a kid from Grambling
THAT DIDNT EVEN PLAY THAT WEEK.
THIS SIHT GETS ON MY NERVES.
AND ITS BLATANLY OBVIOUS WHAT IS GOING ON.

The incompetent morons in the SWAC office are the main
reason I wish JSU would leave the SWAC
and become independent. There is nothing in good
going into or coming out of that office.

I tell you what....let something threaten the
Bayou Classic and then lets see how innovative
that office can be. That is there only concern...
Damn everything else.

better be glad Rudy aint still the Commish or it would be on.....again.

The signs of frustration...

I forgot..you cant have any real discussions over here.

Let me revert back to old Sports Board crap.

PR Man...you are doing a wonderful job.
Keep up the good work
Giving a guy POW from an earlier week was a smart move.
The SWAC is being innovative in its approach to finding POW.
My only question is, what is the cut off time.
Can a player from week 1 win POW in week 5?
Seem right using your logic.

Mike - Gram's game against San Jose was not a conference game either.

As for the SID sending in info, I would assume he did since the GAME WRITE UP is given on the front page also - with Rowe's and Dillons stats in the game recap.

doesn't mean he sent in a Player-of-the-Week form. If you don't send one of those in, I don't care how well he did, we won't be considered. And I know who your SID is, (Ha, ha!) and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't send one in
