It's easy for you to ask that question when you only have to drive a couple of hours to get to the game, while others have to drive three hours or more.

Jay Rob please... Jackson is a RETURN trip from Birmingham... 3 hours at the most.... NEXT excuse. distance isnt a problem for me... I have been to games all over the country.... ALOT not even involving AAMU. Ask Robber or GR... I was at the Jackson State and Grambling gamein Louisiana this past year.

The Independence Bowl averages arond 42,000.... this is a matchup between SEC and Big Ten.... what the HELL make yall think the SWAC Championship game on Shreveport is going to pull out 50,000 plus? Are you telling me that Shreveport doesnt support the Independence Bowl?

The Independence bowl is usually between two mediocre schools, not a conference championship game, so that's not an appropriate comparison.

It's the only game in town and the only game in the SWAC that weekend, that's why.
Marketing plus location has more to do with attendance than anything else.

It has nothing to do with that being the only game in town or the only game in the SWAC that weekend. If being the only SWAC game that weekend mattered that much - then once again you would have all kinds of SWAC supporters from the various SWAC institutions coming - just because it is the only SWAC game for the weekend.

For the 2006 Football season, the SWAC as a whole - as a conference - averaged 15,561 per game. Now, if - on average (yes there were a couple of schools that surpassed the average) we are getting 15k for HOME games - in the home city of our respective schools - again, what makes you logically think that you can jump all the way to 50k for a non classic game? I dont care if its the only game in town or the only SWAC game going on or not. The SCG each year has surpassed the average attendance for the conference as a whole. Is it a great increase? NO - but again with the factors involved in terms of holidays, holiday break, and weather - in a city that yea it does have an alumni base of 2 conference institutions - you cant expect the attendance to go much more than what it has. If this game continues for more years - and is able to build on it's history - and not just here in Bham but wherever it will eventually wind up - then you will see the attendance s l o w l y grow, again in only a moderate rate.

But if you are so so so pissed that the game is not in a city of your choice - exercise all of your clout to move the game...that is obviously not going to be done by not coming cause as you see for a second time around the game is going to be here a few more years. Do something else other than be a biatch and moan about it...and that aint directed at anyone in particular - but at everyone that feels that way. Suggest something on ya own to make something jump off. Whatever - otherwise for 5 more years - you will continue to have ya blood pressure raised on this subject.

first you said 30,000 now it sells out? I would bet you any amount of money you have that there are more people at the Birmingham high school/college BOTB than the Shreveport one. Do you know that all of Birmingham City Schools are damn near 100% Black?

first of all lil daddy im not a statistician......they sell out indy stadium for BOTB

first im nt a statistician......they sell out indy stadium for BOTB

I still stand by what I said... its nowhere near as large as the one in Birmingham. Attendence for a BOTB isnt going to determine attendence at a December football game.

--If it's the only game on that weekend and you can only get 30,000 that's unacceptable.
--You finally admitted that there's been little increase in attendance.
Wrong again! There's been NO increase in seven years since the first SCG.
--The weather was excellent this year and still there wasn't much of an increase in attendance.
--The attendance should've been growing over the past seven years, but it hasn't. What more excuse did the presidents need for the SCG not to have been moved to another city.
--Many of us in the Jackson area DID try and make a change for the better, but the "no-visioned" presidents shot it down.
--When one is standing up for a legitimate cause, it's not biatching and moaning, it's called activism.
--My blood pressure won't go up because I won't be the one looking like a fool when the attendance continues to drop or remain stagnant as it has for the past seven years.

Due to the lack of vision by supposedly intelligent leaders (our presidents), the SCG will continue to stagnate into oblivion.

--If it's the only game on that weekend and you can only get 30,000 that's unacceptable. (When JSU plays in Jackson and get's 20k - why dont they get 50k - I mean it is the only SWAC game in town at the time_--You finally admitted that there's been little increase in attendance.(I have never said anything in regard to attendance in terms of increase or decrease)Wrong again! There's been NO increase in seven years since the first SCG.(Ummm there has been an increase in the attendance every year in terms of what the SWAC Conference overall attendance average is - duh)
--The weather was excellent this year and still not much of an increase. (Again I dont know what you expect - there was over 32,000 - double the increase of the Conference average attendance)--The attendance should've been growing over the past nine years, but it hasn't. What more excuse for this game not to have been moved to another city. (One should look for REASONS and not EXCUSES when it comes to business decisions)--Many of us in the Jackson area DID try and make a change for the better, but the "no-visioned" presidents shot it down. (But it is apparent that your effort was not good enough - so continue to revise what was attempted by those in the Jackson area)--When one is standing up for a legitimate cause, it's not biatching and moaning, it's called activism. (Sorry, Activism is when one presents an alternative to the status or proposed by documenting facts not opinions - by ensuring the alternative proposed can be a sustantual improvement on the status or proposed...not by simply throwing out ramblings off the top of one's head)
--My blood pressure won't go up because I won't be the one looking like a fool when the attendance continues to drop or remain stagnant as it has for the past seven years. (I have no idea who looks like a fool - if I am a fool for supporting the Conference and attending events - be they in Alabama or Texas - then a fool am I...MY support has no boundaries because I support my institution, the Conference and the other HBCU's)
Due to the lack of vision by supposedly intelligent leaders (our presidents), the SCG will continue to stagnate into oblivion.

Your ire should be directed to those intelligent leaders you speak of. Write, call, email them. Make them accountable for the actions in which you disagree, including things on your university's campus - this particular vote is so very minute in the grand scheme of things.

dude, stop popping off just for the hell of it.

btw, the 2 Bama schools had 2 votes. Guess that means that other schools voted for Bham too. :snicker:
:lol::lol::lol:

I still would have preferred for this game to be in a better city. I got one question for ya. How bad do you think attendance would be if the game was in Memphis? I know its not a SWAC State but the city is perfect for an HBCU game.

IMO, Memphis is a decent enough city, but I dont think it's any kind of cure all for the SCG. Plus, we'd probably have even more weather concerns there.

We're not talking about the grand scheme of things, we're talking about the SCG. Anything else is :topic:.

SWAC snubs Shreveport, to stay in Birmingham
By Joel Anderson
Louisiana Gannett News

The Southwestern Athletic Conference decided this morning to keep its headquarters in Birmingham, Ala., instead of moving to Shreveport.
Shreveport was one of three cities hoping to lure the SWAC away from Birmingham. The others were Houston and Jackson, Miss., each cities with schools in the SWAC.

But in a vote by the conference?s council of school presidents this morning, Birmingham emerged as a narrow winner over Shreveport.

?It was close,? said Duer Sharp, associate commissioner of the SWAC. ?But I think our deal (with Birmingham) will be an enhancement of what we already have.?

Also, Sharp said the league decided not to move its outdoor track and field championships to Shreveport this year. The track meet, which is set for April 19-22, will instead be held in Troy, Ala.

The SWAC is a 10-school athletic league of historically black colleges and universities that stretches from Prairie View A&M just outside of Houston to Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala. Grambling State has been a member since 1959.

The contract had been contingent on improvements to Lee Hedges Stadium, where Caddo middle and high school football, soccer and track teams compete.

?I don?t think the facility was going to be ready in time for this year, so we had postpone it,? Sharp said.

Sharp said the meet still might come to Shreveport in 2008 and 2009, as originally planned.

Birmingham has been home to the SWAC since 2000, when the league moved out of its offices in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans after 16 years there.

Whoop-de-do. :xeye:

All that time wasted just to sit on the same deal and city.
They could have just renewed the contract and not WASTED everyones time.
Jackson need to stay out of this from now on..........Like it matters anyway.:)

OH WELL................Now that's settled.
Let's sit back and watch them do nothing all over again. :lmao:

So you're saying we're supposed to give up our heritage for 30 pieces of silver?
If you don't know by now, you'll never know and neither will the ESPNU reporter even if she is Black.

No I am not saying to do away with everything. Just do a little tweaking.
