"You know who" made a covert deal w/ the city of B'ham for free rent and the infamous crumbs off the table clout chasing of the sec w/ the sec HQ situated there. Why is the SWAC headquarters in Birmingham?

Did some semblance of research of a positive location for the SWAC HQ actually occur? smh
One of the things I thought about 20+ years ago was the possibility of the SWAC HQ being situated either ON or near one of our campuses to fully utilize the regional media market and increase the SWAC presence in that area as well, aside from bring potential employment opportunity to the local areas. Have a rotating feature between campuses every 3-5 years. (??)
simple question - just have your favorite city donate them office space and other things and they'll leave overnight
no city will guarantee what Bham has and a media day away from there wouldn't work honestly - Atlanta would be the only other option as the alabama, mississippi and baton rouge outlets are located close enough to drive along with the outlets that way east
swac.org
trust me there was some assistance somewhere to get them to commit to the city longtermThe conference is no longer in that building Bham let them use. They purchased their own building in 2020

Interesting how mention the media outlets.simple question - just have your favorite city donate them office space and other things and they'll leave overnight

No stations from Montgomery?Interesting how mention the media outlets.
On a consistent basis, only TV stations from the following markets actually make their way out for SWAC Media Day
Baton Rouge (Covering Southern and Grambling to help out their sister stations in North Louisiana)
- WAFB
- WBRZ
- WVLA (NBC33/FOX54)
Shreveport (Covering Grambling)
- KSLA
Monroe (Covering Grambling)
- KTVE
Jackson, MS (Covering all 3 Mississippi SWAC Schools)
- WLBT
- WJTV
- WAPT
Huntsville, AL (Mostly Alabama A&M)
- WZDX FOX 54 (Of course, I'll cover Alabama A&M and Alabama State for various reasons. But I also find other storylines)
- WHNT
- WAAY
- WAFF
Birmingham, AL (Alabama A&M and Alabama State... But most of their questions are about the Magic City Classic)
- WVTM 13
- ABC 3340
- CBS 42 (Usually if Dee Jackson is available. If he's at the SEC Media Days, then CBS 42 does not show up)
- WBRC FOX 6 - Haven't seen them at Media Days in 4 years.
This is about it for television stations. I've never seen a Florida, Arkansas or Texas TV Station there over the past few years. Grant it, you can now just record interviews and videos to show on air. But still.
Montgomery media doesn't even cover us IN Montgomery, so they sure as hell ain't travelling to cover us for anything, they just pick up other outlets stories. No stations from Montgomery?
In a broad sense, "texans" in total have absolutely ZERO interest in (sub-)FCS level school sports, not just SWAC/HBCU sports. With both Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M being either in the city of houston and in the vicinity of houston proper, the media here has a pecking order that reads: ut-austin/txa&m/sec, uofh/baylor/big xii, rice univ, ...Interesting how mention the media outlets.

We don't get the coverage we HBCU/SWAC alums would like locally in the larger urban areas around houston, dfw, etc.
Thank goodness for hbcusports et al online communities.
And THAT'S why we appreciate your coverage so much. One of your predecesors - Reggie Benson - was absolutely great in this manner. He worked at the Montgomery Advertiser for year before moving to Huntsville. He would always cover ASU when he could when he was in Huntsville. Most times, he was the only outlet we had that we could find out any news regarding ASU - or SWAC for that matter because the Advertiser nor Al.com (Birmingham News or Birmingham Post Herald before Al.com) would provide any coverage. The last time I saw a Montgomery station in Birmingham for SWAC Media Day was in 2022. It just so happen that SEC Media Days were also in Birmingham.
Adding to what @majiksity said, Sadly, the management at the stations don't care about ASU and Skegee like me and Dee Jackson did when we were in Montgomery, They rather cover the SEC teams and Troy. #SadButTrue
But let something negative happen on those campuses and they will be on it like ants on a meat skin. The last time I saw a Montgomery station in Birmingham for SWAC Media Day was in 2022. It just so happen that SEC Media Days were also in Birmingham.
