SWAC Impact Wide Receivers for 2004

For Terrance to play next year he will switch to DB. There is a lot of room for him to get a starting spot at DB because we lost so many starters.

He is an athlete (Clemson was on him before grades became a problem); he played both ways in high school (DB) and returned punts. He has nice height.

With A. Ard, J. Vernon, J. Plummer, and this new 6'4" kid, it will be tough to stop the passing game. (Especially if the O-line protected like it did last year).

GSU-Tim Abney..Big & tough can take the hig hit all that and he was a freshman.
3rd on team ABNEY,Tim 12 38 637 16.8 6 71 53.1
GSU-Moses Harris..speed
2nd on team HARRIS,Moses 11 50 713 14.3 6 48 64.8
GSU-Paul Hardiman..great hands and quickness, punt return guy (red shirt)
GSU-Henry Tolbert..smooth, speed quickness, mostly a running/wing back, imagine Tramon Douglas...but bigger and faster. :nod2:
receiving
4th on team TOLBERT,Henry 12 31 392 12.6 3 76 32.7
rushing:
3rd on team TOLBERT,Henry 12 53 397 16 381 7.2 1 40 31.8
kick return:
2nd on team TOLBERT,Henry 7 162 23.1 0 48

Terrance Jones can out play anyone on SU's roster at the quaterback position. That kid is the truth, and anyone who ever saw him play knows that. His only problem was he played at a small highschool. A school in which a lot of 4A and 5A schools ducked while Terrance was playing.

I truely doubt that he is anywhere near the best QB on the roster. The word I'm hearing is that he will be a DB if he wants to play. I do not think anyone is questioning whether he is a good athlete, frankly they all are good athletes and they all put up big numbers in high school, but the it going to come down to finding a way to get on the field and that is on the defense side.

Don't forget the guys that were accused of running their mouths prior to the SU Homecoming game. They are still the best in the SWAC, and will show up this season. Look for #12.

I forgot about Plummer, didn't he redshirt last year? What about Junior Joseph out of O.P. Walker-the LSU transfer?

Going back to Terrance Jones, he could get some reps in practice at QB, who knows? Is the QB out of Istrouma eligible this year?

As for AAMUs WRs who mouthed off in the press before SU Homecoming, question is who's going to get the ball to them? We know Bruce Eugene is going to get Abney 'nem the ball and Carrie's gonna get the ball to his recievers (if the the o-line or his receivers can stay healthy and productive).
The jury is still out on Ricks and J.C. Lewis, but if Richard could light it up in David Oliver(Southern's O-coordinator)'s offense, then either of them certainly can.

Is SU that loaded at QB where a talent like Terrance Jones has to move to DB to get on the field? That is pretty strong. Somebody please let me know what is really going on at SU. This past season, I thought that Pete or Dave should have moved Kurvis Sharp to receiver. He was a good receiver for 2 years in high school.

There were 5 QB's in spring practice, of which two were on scholarship, one a transfer, and two were walk on's. In an article on the advocate (can't remember the date) it was said by one of the coaches that they were happy with the play of Ricks and Lewis, so now they can put their focus on some of their other needs. Since they only travel with 4 QB's and two they are happy with, and at least one additional QB coming out of the other three QB's in spring, and one just signed out of high school, there isn't a whole lot of room this coming year. Of course this assumes that Ricks and Lewis get the job done. If they don't there will be opportunities for everyone.

I doubt very seriously 4A and 5A teams ducked 1A Port Sulphur because of Terrance Jones. While he was (and is?) and outstanding player, in Louisiana, the way the playoffs are determined and seeded pretty much precludes such a big discrepancy in opponents.

Strong!

It will be interesting to see what decision Alfred Ard makes regarding his future and how it may affect this year's Jaguar team.....

That is a major question right there PNeck...

I hope he comes back for one more year on the gridiron and the diamond...He made tremendous progress this season at the plate (granted last year he hit .341 in his FIRST season of organized baseball)...if he comes back, and barring injury...he should be first-team All-SWAC in both

I think AA's baseball rights would still be with the team that drafted him, much like how Dewan Day's rights were with Toronto.

As a sports fan, I would like to see him come back and play another season. The league has a need for players...plus he has made such strides in football that he is an NFL prospect. If he can negotiate a deal that allows him to play baseball this summer and report to football in the fall would be great for him.
