Mach, I stole your theme...

What yall think about your running backs. We have a good group at GSU with Reuben Mayes, Michael O'ree, Terrion Rodgers and projected starter Ab Kuaan. All are good backs who can run between the tackles and protect the passing game. Kuaan is gonna be something special this year...

C'mon man give me something bout yall ground game. I need to know what yall doing over there in Jackson. Hell, I know yall ain't gonna be down after this year. Just curious about what yall got to build on.

We're really deep at RB this year. Brandon Cox looked really good this spring fate rsitting out last year with a broken forearm. He's a big guy with good speed for his size.
David Kennebrew should also be a force if he isn't moved to fullback. He played well last year as a true-freshman despite our shaky line play.
Jermaine Montgomery is an Ark State transfer who is a load, about 6'1 230-240-lbs. But the guy to watch is JUCO transfer Curtis Hayes, who has all the makings to be our best RB since Destry Wright. He's about 5'11 220 with good all around skills. The only problem is see is the lack of a quick change of pace runner.

ASU has the best backfield, BAR NONE!!!!

This unit led the SWAC in rushing last year and the top 4 rushers return.

Last year's newcomer of the year and leading rusher in the SWAC,Keldrick Wms, will kill you with speed and finesse.

Robert Randolph will kill you with power.

not to mention....... :shh: :shh:

Ab Kuuan Junior 5-11, 208

UAPB is always deep at RB position. Cedric Bowen was the surprise of the SWAC last year. Moody also returns. Both Bowen and Moody should work in tandem with the new scheme that UAPB will be running this year.

I kinda like Ab Kuaan's (sp) running style..I just hope Spears uses him in the offense as more than just a way to give Bruce a breather and help relieve some of the offensive pressure..

I like Williams from Bama State also

I know we have Peoples coming back, but he kind of faded down the stretch last season as Gerald Holmes started to get hot running the ball. I don't know if one of those RBs we signed last year are going to do...

Bama A&M will always keep an RB

I understand that we got one of those speedy scat backs that the Dean likes to use.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Hayes in action this fall. I saw him in the MS JUCO Championship game last year and was impressed, no doubt. He has good speed to be 210-220 lbs. He has a style similar to Destry Wright's and should have the same amount of success.

As mentioned earlier, we don't have the quick shifty runner, but we do have four guys who can get the job done and done well. They'll be all kinds of hell if the O-Line gets it together and stays healthy.

BTW is Rueben Mayes the son of the former Saints back?

I can't answer for sure, but I doubt it.

The former Saints & Washington State back spells it Rueben.

The Grambling back is Ruben and is from Memphis.

I agree ASU has a nice backfield... they impressed me last year and will be stronger this year.

Lanier Bush from AAMU will be a surprise this year though... last year Jones said at the beginning of the season he wanted ONE feature back and he wanted him to get over 1000 yards rushing and that is what he had with Bonds... Bonds played hurt alot and Bush picked up right where he left off. He averaged 7.2 yards a carry and ran for about 400 yards playing behind Bonds. The one game he started he ran for about 160 yards.

I think Peoples will definitely be the top rusher in the SWAC with Kuaan coming finishing second. Pete has a couple of other backs that will make some noise this year too.

:smh:
ummmm, as a first year player last year, Keldrick Wms. LED the SWAC in rushing yards and avg. per carry, but according to you, he "definitely" won't finish in the top 2 this year.

Take off the blinders please. :scared::scared:

Randolph was among the leaders in rushing and avg. per carry too.

Point well taken mh...

Understand this:

1. Its a given Ala St had probablly one of the best(if not, the best) running back tandems in 2003. Believe me, I saw it 1st hand when SU played Ala St at Mumford

2. Kuaan will more than likely have a better year than last year

3. Williams and Randolph will have break out years as well

4. (Saving the best for last)...PEOPLES... this is his year!

The running game will depend on the solidity of the O-line, and I know our O-line will be fine. Even better than last year. We will find out who has the best backfield when the season starts.

I didn't intend for this thread to turn into a smack session. I just wanted to hear yall's opinion on your team's running back. I was really impressed with the footage that I saw of Williams at Bama State. Don't know what happened near the end of the season, but it appeared he tapered off somewhat. Peoples was a beast early on but near the end of the season the other smaller back seemed to move ahead of him in terms of productivity. But that only means that SU now has two proven runners.

Not sure if Ab Kuaan will even start for GSU, but from what I've heard from current players as well as friends who caught the B&G game, he is the front runner. The "other" starter at running back (Henry Tolbert) has been moved to the slot position that Tramon played last year. He has looked good there and running back punts. Although Kuaan (still not sure if we're spelling his name correctly...lol) is the frontrunner, the other backs Terrion Rodgers, Michael O'Ree and Ruben Mayes are all quality runners who will get plenty of action...Mayes will probably line up at full back.

According to the GSU website report: Kuuan came in third (507) in the squat and third (305) in the power clean among all players. Seems like he's been putting in time in the weight room...

Next Five: 16. Nehemiah Broughton, The Citadel (Sr., 6-0, 240); 17. Roger Robinson, Northern Arizona (Sr., 5-10, 187); 18. Steve Baylark, Massachusetts (Jr., 6-0, 225); 19. Keldrick Williams, Alabama State (Jr., 5-8, 205); 20. Sean Mizzer, VMI (Jr., 5-9, 185).

Top D-1aa runningbacks

kuann will be the starter no doubt about that. he better stay healthy .there are rbs who can come in run the rock.terrion togers is fast and smooth. the kid from tallulah (carter) showed great speed in teh b&g game. a kid who is going to walk on is ricky scott. this kid was under the radar the whole year. he gained over 1800 yds as a junior at mansfield high school behind a sad oline.i saw a magazine with the 12 best recruits in each state and his teamate antonio shannon was on the list who is at grambling this summer and ricky was on the list too. this kid has massive thighs like barry sanders and moves but mostly can finish off a run and run away from people. it may be hard to get on the filed but he is at summer school too like the entire team is.look for him in the future or if somethin happens to kuann. i don't know if we moved keatwon gray to rec or db yet but he was projected as a rb too. fast kid.we are set at rb but will we actually used them to dominate instead of just spelling eugene's arm when he gets tired.

Personally, I think that SU is going to surprise some people and run the ball rather than throw the ball. Richardson is in more of a transition than many of you want us to believe.

JSU is going to be a far different running team this year. Many thought that Bell made bad decisions by going to the run last year but the transfers that he was able to lure in by SHOWING them rather than telling them what he needed is going to help. I don't even think that our makeshift RB Morris is even a RB anymore because we have REAL RB's now.

There will be no prediction here but I seriously doubt that the JSU offense will look anything like it did last year.

Scott Morris was moved to TE in the Blue and White game.
