I already see smack talk going on about the 2014 season.
Do you feel the SWAC will be stronger as a whole next season??
Who do we see in Houston next season?? Who's the Early Season favorite??
What are you guys thoughts going into 2014??

Re: SWAC in 2014

Based on the history of the SWAC.... you really should wait until August for these questions lmao

Re: SWAC in 2014

yea, it's very hard to tell right now. For JSU, it's time for us to decide if we wanna be good every year or great every year. We fired Hughes for averaging 7 wins a year over 4 years. Comegy is winning 8 games a year over the same period. What do we do? We will win because that's just what we do. Aside from the **** years, we have only had one losing season in THIRTY years. But we have to still take things up a notch. How do we do that?

But as for your question, I fully expect the EAST to come down to JSU-Alabama State again and the WEST will come down to SU and PV again. I can't see PVs defense being that bad two years in a row. JSU will be losing our QB but Moore was never a Therriault and Ivy should be able to step right in and fill his shoes.

The EAST should certainly be tough again because I fully expect AAMU to do a little bit better and battle Alcorn for the #3 spot in the EAST. The EAST should once again have the top 3-4 teams.

2014 SWAC Powers will be ASU, JSU and SU again. I hate to say it but the Championship game will more than likely be a rematch of this year's SWAC Championship. Barlow and staff can't win the big games.

Re: SWAC in 2014

JSU and Bama St will be back in their rightfully place. 2nd and 3rd as it should be.

Re: SWAC in 2014

I think 2014 is Alcorn's year to rise.

Of course, if AD Hicks finds The One then I will throw all of my cards on my Bulldogs!

I'm really puzzled that in spite of all of the support and backing he has received & the adjustments he has tried to make, Reggie Barlow has yet to lead Bama State to a SWAC Championship.

As for JSU, JROCK made a very profound statement on another thread. In a nutshell, he basically said, there is JSU before AAMU came in the SWAC and JSU after AAMU came in the SWAC. The later is no better than AAMU or Bama State as far as the east is concerned....

...of course, this is just one man's opinion :swink:

Re: SWAC in 2014

how in the world can yall say the battle is between JSU and Bama State in the East, have you all completely forget about surging Alcorn, I fully expect Alcorn to rise up in the east and compete for a trip to the SWAC Championship. if Alcorn comes into their game vs JSU with a SWAC title berth on the horizon with the game in Lorman, I think Alcorn to win. this is Hopson's second year recruiting and based off the 2013 turn around, I expect to see even better results in 2014. Alcorn's the games that matter are played in Lorman, Bama State, SU, and JSU.

the west is a little more tricky, SU will be losing their QB and #1 WR, but that boy Quinn is a future NFL prospect, UAPB had a very young defense last year, Ben Anderson will be back, but they will lose a lot of talent on the Offensive and Defensive sides of the ball, PVAMU has a LETHAL offense, if their defense actually be learn how to tackle, I expect them to challenge SU for the Western Crown, and Grambling has a new coach and a young but talented core of players, if we can form a staff to coach them up, we might make some noise. TSU is TSU, until they get off probation, the third coast tigers will be homecoming bait, but after probation is over, RISE TIGER RISE

Re: SWAC in 2014

I predict that Grambling will win more games next year than the past two years. :-|
I forgot about the West.

Yes for Grambling I don't have a clue. I'm still trying to figure out how a school who is so popular that a character on the best drama show of all time ("The Wire") would wear a throw back jersey allowed it's football team get to the state that it is in. I hope they some day return to Greatness.

I'm also at a loss at how PB looked nothing like the team the year before when it held the crown.

So if I where a betting man, I would put my chips on Southern in the west.

SCG 2014 -Southern U. vs. Alcorn (unless AAMU finds The one) :)

Re: SWAC in 2014

You never know in the swac....I mean pb almost went win-less after winning the scg. I will have an answer after spring training, but of course I think we will be better. We were crazy to think we could win the scg with our back-up qb, hopefully ivy will be healthy. Comegy can recruit, if he can't do anything else.

Re: SWAC in 2014

This is the SWAC. We had a team to win out (UAPB) then come back the next year and get skull drug. Doug ruined GSU's program but we could have started a different QB early and gotten more wins....SU changes coaches and comes back and wins the SWAC Championship...in short this is the SWAC anything is possible.

So according to some of you, the SWAC is sorry because "certain schools" have a good football team?

When Bama wins an SEC Championship, I don't hear SEC Folks saying it is sorry. When Florida wins an SEC Championship, I Don't hear SEC Folks saying it is sorry. When Tennessee won an SEC Championship, I don't hear SEC Folks saying it is sorry. Heck, when MS State went to the SEC Championship game in 1999, I didn't hear folks saying the SEC was sorry.

But because Alcorn has a strong team (which will get even stronger once our "entertainment and sports programming recruits" make it to Lorman :x:), it is going to be down. Some of you simply have to look at gamefilm.

The SWAC Championship only got downgraded when TX Southern got a in trouble, and when JSU as SWAC Champion can't beat Out of Conference Competition.

But some of you, keep living in that past glory. Folks have long forgetten about that Miami beast team in the early 2000s. The goal is build a WINNING PROGRAM NOT a WINNING CHAMPION. There is a difference.

JSU, its over. You should have put Alcorn in the ground when you had a chance. You Didn't. Now a phoenix has risen from a Mississippi Grave, ready to burn everything in its path.....sorta like how the Washington Redskins unintentionally made the way for the Dallas Cowboys.

Why are you always bringing up jsu....you hate us huh? I can't take advice from a guy who supports a team that has never gone, like EVER.

I think it will be Alcorn vs Prairie View or Southern....

Right now, on paper, PV looks better than SU but they don't meet til October this time so that could all change by then but how you think Alcorn gonna jump over Jackson State and Alabama State?

You lost to the worst AAMU team in 15 years you still have a LONG way to go.
