When folks from the ATL rather Texas over Birmingham that alone should say something.

Atlanta to Birmingham - 147 miles
Atlanta to Houston - 793 miles

Perfect Weather in the entire SWAC region and fan bases then were still on a 90s high. First SCG in history as well. It will always be hard to top the first one in atmosphere and crowd.

You could have sat in the SUites like we (my chapter Frat bruhs) did for 60 a piece. All you needed was about 10 people to reserve a suite That was a deal there. Reliant was on point. Only complaint is they have that AC rolling in that mofo. But that is all the time.

Yep. Because most folks like myself would fly into the ATL and drive to Bham and we would roll right after the SCG back to the ATL. Hell even did that for the MEAC-SWAC challenge when we played FAMU. DNice and a bunch of us fly in to the ATL and rolled to B-ham but immediately rolled back to Atlanta after the game.

In 1999, I think a lot of people stayed in Bham.. and even that Friday night in Bham was popping but after that year, it was drive in and get the hell out! I had a good time in Houston.

I happily did this through Dallas and that snow/ice mess this year.

Last year, in Bham ..... didn't even trigger a thought of going.
 
Houston was an expensive trip, but it was FUN. Birmingham I may have spent $50 max. Ride in the day of the game and leave out as soon as it is over.

Yeah you are right. B-ham in 99 was okay. Most folks did stay then. I did as well. Well maybe everybody except Get Ready. LOL. He has never liked B-ham. I know in 03 and 04 I did not stay there.
 



Although I do think that Houston is a better location, I just see the swac office losing their own fan base by not continuing to schedule events that would actually attract people.

It seems like you took the scenic route, because what I posted was the mileage from Atlanta to Houston going through Baton Rouge.

Atlanta to Dallas - 781 miles
Dallas to Houston - 239 miles
Total - 1,020 miles

Actually, what he is saying is not true. Most of the time, the economic impact is a real number which is why they don't post the number until they at least get a very good estimate and most of the time, you can see the difference in tax revenues which give a very accurate account of the impact.
 
I enjoyed Houston better. Funny seeing people bring out the bottles at 9am the day of the game. It was freezing. One SU fan said in Bham, he went in the bathroom and drunk a whole bottle of gin and was still cold in Bham. lmao
