The top six or seven teams (throughout the 10-team conference), they?re all the same. It?s just who makes the fewest mistakes,? Broadway said.

The SWAC is wide open this fall.

IMO, the West Conf is much stronger top to bottom than the Eastern Conf. :read:

Yeah, the EAST is pretty weak but just like you only need ONE lottery ticket to win the prize, you only need one good team to win the championship. The EAST has won 3 of the last 4. Oh well.

Tis true, only one good one is required. My worst fear is that the Westerners will be beating up on each other each week lol and subsequently play an Easterner the following w/e and lose because of all the injuries and depletion. lol

The West will win the SCG this fall. Squads are too strong from top to bottom. Either of the 5 could potentially be in the SCG. :read: I have a hard time thinking Valley or AlcornSt could be in the SCG w/ what they're returning or not returning.

We (the SWAC West) are the American League of the SWAC.

Basically. It's a shame we all have to play each other. There should be some awfully nervous peeps in the West "top spots" w/ sTu, PVU, and UAPB in the rear-view mirror gaining steam, really fast. :read:

Panthro, that exaggeration you just made about the West teams wearing each other down won't stand the test of time.

The SCG is a full month away from the last regular season game, so teams with injuries and tired players should've recuperated by them.

Speaking week to week RobJay. :)

Play a West opponent this week and subsequently play an Eastern squad the next. :read: The West is strong and I hate PV is in this division. :emlaugh:

Recognized your spot, huh? Believe me, like you would say, "We got our Good eyes on you too"

Well, don't brag too fast becasue it was not long when when this was the WORST collection of schools in the country.

SU was like 5-6
Gras was like 3-8
PV was PV
and TxSo was worser than PV ever could have imagined.

Sorry azz UAPB was the West rep and got whooped by BAMA A&M who is known to not be able to beat ANY team worth a dayum.

Panthro,

You are supposed to be on top of the SWAC position-by-position breakdown threads. This thread is pointless! JSU is way ahead of everybody........there may be some parity amongst the rest of yall though! I don't know. :emlaugh:

There is parity with our second string and the rest of the SWAC.....:lmao:

Hell I forgot. lol

Offensive Linemen...

The funny part is this we all have holes to fill except PV. The only thing is PV offense sucks and can't score unless it's a busted player or weak team.

1. Gram needs some WR,A backup QB,Db's and LB's.
2. SU needs some Go to WR,A running back, DB/Safety and Depth at the Linemen position.
3. PV needs an offense
4. UAPB is scary. They were the best team in the west last season but had poor coaching. Now they have NFL caliber coaching. Look out. They have a QB,WR's,RB, OL and a defense.. Sleeper team will win the WEST. Why cause SU and PV can't beat them...
5. TSU will be an entirely new team . They will win some games but in one year the coles aint even that good.

The West is not as strong as you think.

Wow man, you are off in a few spots. Gram, I think you got them pegged.

For SU, I can understand the Go-TO WR even though this group looks too much like the RAC Boys of '03 (no one top go-to guy). At RB, we are in the same position as JSU .... need to find one guy even though our returners have a little more experience than yours. I agree with the DB/Safety spot, but the line has definitely been addressed.

For UAPB, who is their QB, seriously? You say they have all this talent and no coaching, but even in their game against us, they weren't dominant at all.

Bad part is, if you combine Southern and Grambling's issues, you have my thoughts on Jackson State. I love the defense, but offensively, you enter with way too many questions in vital positions.

The only thing about SU's DL right now is depth and I don't know how that is going on because I'm hearing different things day by day. We will be alright though.

I believe the entire West, except for Texas Southern (give them some time), will be strong this season. UAPB played well at the end of the season and they return a lot of key players and a young offensive line. Grambling, Southern, and PV, will be tough. If PV can find a QB, then lookout. While every contender in the East needs a QB to step up. But I just can't see TSU, Alcorn and Valley being contenders this season.

With a OL that returns everyone except the center and we add more depth with transfers and a guy who was highley sought after but had to prop and we will have the holes for any runner. And we have some good potential coming in to carrry the rock. We also have a suprise who played last season. Add to that we have a fullback that can make holes. War vet Edward Lee. We really just need to solidify the backup QB spot.

WR
Gray-Starter caught two TD's against AA&M. Played all season
Carlos Simpson- Two year starter
Frost-Blocker,soft hands
Dixon Started at TE in place of frost caught first TD in the SCG.Tall and big
Mc Laurin-Leading receiver in 06 starter. RS back to play.
Then we have three backups who caught passes all season and in the SCG.
Add the Wilder kid three star
Kilaske Hunter out of Florida who was the best receiver in the spring. So
And a few more transfers.

What vital part are we missing besides QB.

Oh yeah we got some good transfers at the RB position along with a outstaning freshmen. See Gram for freshmen starting RB.

Defensively we have a solid DL with added depth. Too many LB's and DB's.

We can run all season long and mix in the pass and we are fine.

This discussion was about the West and how much Parity is in it and how strong it is. I just don't see it.

If coached properly, our defense will be unstoppable. However, on offense, we have an experienced o-line and we have experience at WR. We have weaknesses at QB and RB but those won't last past preseason drills. We won't need much offense vs Hampton because they won't cross the 50 and then we play Stilman.

Offense should be solid before we go to Memphis.

What about last year?

Actually the east was not that bad. JSU and A&M both had 8 wins and Bama Jelly was 5 or 6 and 0 before the bottom fell out. Gram struggled with them as did PV. So the east was not that WEAK. Actually no team in the east went 0-11. So the west was weakest again by default. :)
