SWAC FB Coaches 2023 Ranked 1-12

got to throw in environment as a factor - can #1 win at #12 and can #12 win at #1?

look at it like this - Prairie View has had 3 coaches since 2015 and all have won and 2 have moved on and another was 1 game away from winning the West in his first year so the environment there is conducive to winning

He was the Co-Champion of the West

This is a good point! Can Fred McNair win at Grambling or at Southern? Can you swap out coaches and the program don’t suffer?

Some of these guys won’t be around next yr. Maynor may go to NCAT, McKinney is getting fired, and Hue is on thin ice

Well, if you're going to include the folks with no head coaching history, I'd at least include the previous coach's name and record along with the new coach names. That way, a baseline is set for the new coaches to succeed. Like, Dancy (10 - 38)/(Wade 1st yr). This shows where Wade is starting out.

Basically, the ranking should be able to figure out which team is more likely to be at, above or below .500. Even if there's a new coach. It's possible JSU could be the 10th worst team but that's not realistic 🤣.

He's doing it for the fall of 2023 season though.

Had to clarify. Didn't mean to not rate at all.

How is it all the first year coaches ranked 9-12….why not ties at 9? I mean don they have coaching history?
Ed Reed has NFL and college experience, TC been an asst at JSU & NCCU, Alonzo is a longtime asst at multiple FBS schools, the Wade guy I’m just not confident in. Just my projection on I think they’ll perform.

Not defending Mckinney but he didn't he beat McNair, Jackson, Dooley , Robinson and would have beaten A & M coach except for the player switching ball, allegedly, I think he was going into his victory dance prematurely.
I believe Bama State beat Texas Southern this past season.

Several names have been mentioned as possibilities to take over as NC A&T head coach, including a former NFL coach.

A&T football prepares to make the move to the Colonial Athletic Association starting next season.

The most prominent among them is Jim Caldwell, the former ACC and NFL head coach. Multiple sources indicate that the school is interested in the former Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions head coach, who also spent much of the 1990s down the road at Wake Forest in the ACC. Caldwell still has ties in the Triad region.

Another name that has been floated around is Jerry Mack. Mack is currently the running backs coach at The University of Tennessee, where he also serves as recruiting coordinator as well. Though his previous post was as an offensive coordinator at Rice University, he has head coaching experience at an HBCU, completing a successful stint at North Carolina Central from 2014 through 2017. His NCCU program won three MEAC titles in his first three years, including an outright title in 2016, including a 3-1 record against A&T during that span. Mack is said to be interested in the job according to sources.

Wade has been coaching for over a decade with a couple years at the HS ranks as an AD

His most notable product is a WR from FVSU who is currently on the Ravens.
As WR coach at Valley, he helped McElfresh become the best WR in the SWAC and Chambers become a FCS All-American
At Delta State, he helped them go 11-1 including the victory that shall not be discussed lol

In other words, he has plenty of experience as a college coach and he's familiar with Valley and the Delta

No disrespect to Wade, but there has to be some economic issues involved in this hire. Sam Washington was the best coach available, and an alum, but they chose a cheaper, less experienced, option with Wade.

He is also approaching 60 and maybe doesn't wanna go through a full rebuild in an areas he hasn't recruited in over a decade

Also most expensive doesn't mean better (see the less expensive Dancy beating AAMU in 2022). People said the same thing about Dancy and he turned out to be a good coach. Again the other 3 new coaches in the SWAC, we won't know how to judge then until the end of 2023

I agree Coach Washington is 62 but I just thought he would’ve been a slam dunk hire for Valley. Best of luck to Coach Wade though.

Trust me - valley would never be an option for him - he already worked there and it didn't end well plus he's only 50 percent of the relationship

When he wanted to go back they chose someone else

I've learned to never trust randoms on a message over **** I've seen with my own damn eyes.

"It didn't end well" but he was literally on campus last year roaming the sidelines...

Valley made him the scapegoat and fired him after the 06 season - But I said he's only 50 percent of the relationship

I can call him if you don't believe me 😂

I would probably put Simmons number 1, slightly ahead of McNair. I saw what Simmons did as OC at Alcorn. McNair deserves top ranking for the BS from Administration he has had to go through and holding every thing together. My only displeasure with him is giving unproven coaches a chance (our offensive coordinators).

I’m rooting for Simmons to get an FBS job, but he may have to take an OC job.

Simmons cant coach a lick. He is a decent recruiter tho. That's why Im not worried about him beating JSU. There is a reason why he has been a HC for 9 seasons and hasnt won anything.

Also, his record is 54-23. You only using his FAMU record?
