SWAC Commissioner talks SCG, APR, Post Season Bans & Basketball Tournament

Hey Homer....

It's no trouble when it comes up so easily but you can't find any information about it not being a post season game. If you looked that was information that comes from the 2010 season.

And if you go back and read the NCAA by-laws and guidelines on what they consider a "post season" game, then you could possible understand that our......Our............OUR Championship game isnt considered one, so all that stuff you just posted makes about as much sense as those bi-polar people in Birmingham wanting all 10 teams in the basketball tourney with their bands, cheerleaders, praise team, etc...

But we have discussed that MANY times when the Legacy Bowl, etc...comes up. :smh:

Now, that it's not a NCAA post season game, what you got to say?
He gonna say "the SWAC considers it a post-season game."

Only our black asses can screw up a punishment already handed down by the governing body.

APR does not relate to only academics. That is a really dumb statement.

Dumb Statement? And who said academics was the only factor into APR? It is the major factor though.

What is the definition of the Academic Progress Rate (APR)?
The APR is a real-time assessment of a team's academic performance,
which awards two points each term to scholarship student-athletes who
meet academic-eligibility standards and who remain with the institution.
A team's APR is the total points earned by the team at a given time divided by the total points possible.

Academics is the major force. DUH.

APR treats academics and retention equally. You get one point for each. Now DUH that!

Dude it's driven by academics.
1. You have to earn certain hours with passing grades.
2. If a student transfers they must be passing in order for the APR not to be counted against the school.
3. Coincides with graduation rates which is academics etc.

All the info is on the NCAA site, seems like the JSU people don't really understand APR but the APR is not driven by academics?:read:

Why don't you go with reality.
I am. That's why I'm saying, in REALITY, to the SWAC, the SCG is indeed our post season, and not just some regular ole regular season game. I stand by that.

and I really want to know WHY is there ANY debate about a ban (an ADDITIONAL one at that) from just a regular ole regular season game.

YOU don't understand APR, even if a kid is passing, the school loses ONE point if they transfer.

You get ONE point for being academically eligile.
You get ONE point for being retained.

Now unless ONE is greater than ONE, you can leave this argument alone.

Also, you have to be retained to graduate. What they gonna do, graduate and then transfer?

You know why? Stop acting dumb as these other people. The SWAC is only having the debate to say, "if they are not good enough to play in the NCAA post-season, should they be allowed to enjoy ANY perks or should they be made to suffer completely."

Robber explained that very clearly. The additional punishment would be because the postseason ban already in place has no affect on us.

And you can't get past this issue of "our" postseason game. We can't invent our own system. We have to go with what's in place.

NCAA RULE FOR ACADEMIC YEAR vs. SUMMER TERM
Determined in the APR

Student-athletes must earn 75 percent of the credits needed for satisfactory profess during the regular academic year. No more than 25 percent of the required credits for satisfactory progress may be earned in the summer.

Example: To be eligible entering your sophomore year, you must have passed 24 hours during your freshman year. Of these 24 hours, 18 (75%) must have been earned during the Fall and Spring semesters of your freshman year. A maximum of 6 hours of the 24 (25%) could be earned during the summer terms following your freshman year.

NCAA.org has this information on the site and also some other Division I programs websites. It's not rocket science.

By the way to graduate your academics have to be in check.

By the way to transfer your academics must be in check, if not the school will get penalized

Retention is academically driven, to be retained you must makes the grades. If not you will get kicked out and put on SAP.

Academically driven. No way of getting around academics.:read:

And that goes EXACTLY to what I've been saying all along. There is a sentiment out there the SCG is indeed our post season. Our "PERK" (thanks TP)
Regardless of how the NCAA sees it, some see it as a post season PERK (thanks again TP)

Notice the Jackson State people and a few of the SU people seem to not get it.

Sorry, but I don't buy that there would be a consideration of "additional" punishment. Not for something that we are "challenged" to overcome. Folks can color it how they want or rationalize it, but in reality (thanks rob), we all know that we have come to view the SCG as more than a reg season game. I don't understand how we can suggest differently.

Which means banning us from that game will amount to additional punishment, beyond what's been handed down by the NCAA. And that rarely if ever happens in College Football. That's what we've been saying all along. You should punish based on the law, not sentiment. The law says that we're banned from POSTseason games and that the SCG is NOT a postseason game.

The SCG is post season with perks so i agree that JSU and SU should be banned. The NCAA only labels it non post season because the SEC and the others have championship games that aren't labeled post season. That's the only reason they don't view the game as post season but majority view at as post season. Why would schools with APR problems be able to play for a conference championship? Defeating the purpose and sending the wrong message. TP the APR is all about academics you can't do nothing without the academics being up to par.

99,
I understand exactly what yall are saying. Do you understand what I'm saying? Whether you agree or not, do you understand how some would consider the SCG as more than just a reg season game, given the way it has always been promoted, presented, viewed

Let me shut this thread down and leave you all with this. As alumni members of our beloved HBCU's what are you doing to help this situation? Are you a volunteer tutor for athletics? If not contact your university college department and ask "how can I help". Some of you all look and sound STUPID arguing back and forth about this situation.

Fiyah, please close this thread down.

Tomcat who are you? You can't shut nadda down.:emlaugh: Yeah the ones that look stupid are the one's putting athletics over academics. That's what stupid people do.
