Naw hated it when it was there. May as well have it in Greenwood or Greenville who ever has the park there

Move the baseball tournament back to BR. The three years it was in BR it was the most attended baseball tournament in the history of SWAC baseball.

:smh:
just as with any other SWAC school, "JSU and SU" only have a bearing on SCG attendance when they make it and they don't make it every year, so don't kid yourself into thinking that next season's SCG attendance will "drastically decline" if Jsu and Su are banned.

You hit it right on the head

When did the SWAC begin to care what others thought about our priorities and integrity? Hell, we already told the NCAA that they could kiss our azz when we started our championship game. And for those that's taking the academic integrity angle, don't forget that our defending champs have the LOWEST APR in the country. That same team will have the ability to represent us once again as SWAC champs.

The SWAC Office and the Presidents should begin to really stress academics. Didn't have to worry about APR years ago and they can't work like they did years ago. They must readjust their focus, they haven't done so yet and that's why the SWAC is in the situation it is today. Not to sound nonchalant but no one really knew or cared who Texas Southern was. They are not a high profile HBCU so many didn't really pay attention to them even the SWAC Office but i'm sure with the high profile schools of the SWAC being in the spotlight new rules will be implemented concerning APR scores, championships and post season. I can't see how someone says not to ban JSU and SU for football. The SCG is the ultimate prize in the SWAC so why allow JSU or SU to be apart of that since academics is supposed to be first? I don't understand some people's logic.

Why not? there is money that the Swac receives from the deal with the BCS schools for football. Allowing them to play could jepardize receiving that money.
What's the basis for this??? The NCAA has handed down it's punishment. The conference is not required to do nothing further. What's the precedent for punishing a conference for not going above and beyond what the NCAA has imposed??? Overanalyzing!!!

The TOP three SCG attendances involved the BIG THREE

JSU vs SU= 47,621
JSU vs GSU= 43,236
GS vs ASU= 38,487

Also, the attendance was good the very 1st year in '99, because the weather was nice and most if not all SWAC bands were in attendance. It was also a good game.

Man, be real. SU and JSU always draw BIG don't blame it on good weather and those other corney azz bands. The only bands that matter in the swac are JSU, SU, GSU and Bama State.

Ok the NCAA banned SU and JSU from post-season in football which is crazy because the SWAC doesn't participate in the football play-offs and technically they say the SCG isn't post season but it's played after the 11th game so the SWAC should most definitely step in and do something because that means all football teams can have APR problems with no repercussions. I can't see how some of you can fix your mouths and look over that. Academics needs to be pushed, that is the ultimate reason why the athletes are in college in the SWAC because it's not like they are just getting drafted like they once were in the past.

Ain't nobody looking over anything. Y'all adding criteria to the mix that don't belong. Fact is, it ain't a post-season game. Simple as that. When it's played, after how many games, and conferences losing BCS money and all that other stuff y'all throwing in is simply extra. I have no problem with the SWAC issuing further punishment to illustrate the importance of academics. Just quit piling on unnecessary and irrelevant bull to try to make your point.

It is sad how some black folks react to success. When the SWAC announce that JSU has won the commissioner's cup again, several Prezs will envy, hate and think "he// yea I'm voting no."

Well if they allow JSU/SU to be eligible to play in the SCG they are saying who gives a damn about academics pertaining to football in the SWAC. They don't play in the play-offs anyway, the athletes don't have to go to class and make the grade. The NCAA is so dumb for banning schools in the SWAC from football post-season play when they have said that the SCG is post season and the SWAC doesn't play in the play-offs in football. Just dumb on their behalf. The SWAC is the only conference that hasn't yet took care of this APR issue concerning the team bans.

Rj i feel all of your posts 100%. Peeps please quit the argument about the SU/JSU SCG attendance debate. SU and JSU haven't met in the SCG since 1999 so what makes you think there is a meeting brewing for 2011?

One should also consider: This decision sets a precedent for future decisions regarding postseason participation in the sport of football and a postseason bowl game (.i.e. Heritage Bowl).

I and a few others understand that. The conference needs to have stiff rules. No grade, no play. Simple ss that. No matter what school it is. If a team didn't handle their business in the classroom why should they be able to play in a championship, tournament, play-offs or bowl game? Right is right, wrong is wrong, fair is fair.

The SWAC is the only conference that hasn't yet took care of this APR issue concerning the team bans.
And what's your basis for this??? The NCAA issued it's penalty. That's who does the penalizing for the APR issues. Every other conference goes by what the NCAA hands down.

If you guys think the SWAC loses out on recruits, let our Presidents not vote on banning JSU and SU. Every FCS school and lower tier FBS would use this against our schools. You guys gotta use your heads for once. Folks already type cast our schools, and now we going to let them be able to say "Why send your child to a SWAC school, they don't care about his academics". Black parents already believe white is right, now you send two schools who the NCAA says are not performing and every PWC in the nation will use this.

So YOU of all people gone let "massa" NCAA dictate what you do in your own conference? LOL!! I done heard it all.

It's the same as the BCS voting to strip USC of its title. There was no rule against it because it never happened before. However, the elephant in the room is what if more say like 3-5 SWAC Schools don't make the grade in the next couple years? Then half the damn conference wouldn't be eligible for the SCG.

Not true if the SWAC standards for SCG eligibility are put in place after this year.

Apples and oranges.
SU has never been eligible for the playoffs and JSU and no other SWAC team is getting a bid to the playoffs after our dumb azz commish went on TV and basically told FCS to go screw themselves. The NCAA know this but if the SWAC clowns them again, what do the NCAA have to lose by chopping SWAC schools heads. We took ourselves out of their football loop long ago remember. Thats what people in this conference wanted and now they got it full force.

j-state83, I don't know if the NCAA wants to make an example anymore out of HBCU's. They're already getting flack for possible racism against HBCU's in lieu of the APR system as a whole.

Ya'll need to stop splitting apples and oranges, trying to see which one is more fruity than the other. Both them suckas are fruit.

Been sitting here reading these post and here we go with the "stick it to massa" thinking about letting JSU and SU remain eligible for the SCG. One day ya'll gonna find out the hard way about how cold the NCAA can be. And ain't nobody gonna be caring when the usual chant of "they did it because we black" starts flying.

Everybody know the NCAA can't stop JSU and SU from competing in the SCG but everyone here know dang well the NCAA meant that also as the punishment. Ya'll want to push your HBCU luck and "stick it to massa" go ahead and let JSU or SU end up in that SCG game. I'm gonna laugh my azz off when the NCAA come back and starts chopping heads, JSU INCLUDED, if they have the smallest of chances to do so.
