SWAC coaches on the bubble

MikeBigg..

you're mostly on point with your analysis..

allow me to piggyback off your post..with one correction:

1. CORRECTION: Grambling, along with SLU, McNeese, LaTech and four others..are part of the University of Louisiana System. SU and LSU have their own boards..but the Board of Regents sets policy for all higher ed in Louisiana.

2. Dr. Clausen, UL President, will give Spears time to do his thing/hang himself on his own rope...

3. Bell is GONE if J-state doesn't win at least 7 or 8 games this season. His best chance of beating the SWAC's top three schools (Bama State, GSU and SU)..lies against Gram...and I don't see them beating Gram or the other two this season.

4. Anthony Jones will hafta lead the Bulldogs to the SWAC title to make MD and the winsuit posse forget about the Grambling thing..

5. Wilson has to go 5-6 this year...most definitely...

6. IMO, Pete is through after these three years, regardless of outcome on the field. A man can't troll the sidelines with a titanium kneecap forever...Pete's gonna ride off into the sunset and SU will prepare for the next coach..
When I first mentioned Spears, I mentioned that he has a new contract. Even so, I think he is under as much scrutiny as Bell (all most). He may not be bought out but if he has 4 or less victories his stay will be horrible. He will attempt to leave.
When is Bell's contract up? He may very well be there. I do not think he needs 7 or 8 wins. 5 wins will keep him there...sadly.

Contracts are made to be broken. Haven't we learned from Grambling's finacial history and FAMU's current troubles. Clausen, like other state officials don't care about black institutions until the books don't add up. At this point Clausen will support any decisions Judson and Jefferies make. Jefferies is too smart of a man not to sign Spears to a five-year contract without clauses that would allow them to give Spears the boot.

Grambling is looking at playing two D1-A schools and a Northwestern State payday next year. They'll have enough money to get rid of Spears if they needed. SWAC schools have fired coaches after one year (see PV). Spears as actually had 2 years at Grambling 2.

With all of this said a 2 or 3 win season, which seems unlikely, and he's out. However, the question was asked, which new coach could recieve the boot in their first year.
Again, I say Spears, the man who did just enough to keep his job in the first year and the man who will always be 2nd to Lee Fobbs, a Gram Alum and Texas A&M assistant.

EXTRA POINT: You want to know why Northwestern State is a top 10 ranked football team? Their top players transferred from TEXAS A&M. Daddy Lee Fobbs is sending them to son Brodrick Fobbs, an assistant coach for the purple Demons. Just something to think about. :shh:

Gram could have done worse. They could have made Spears the highest paid coach in 1AA football for losing the BC and SCG. It pays to be light-skinned.
Preach brotha!!!

Who has over 30 years of coaching experience but never once held a position higher than assistant coach. He has never even been a coordinator of any sort on the college level. Now I find it odd for a person who has been in the college coaching circles for as long as Fobbs has and not once ever held a position of coordinator. He has been coaching for over 30 years and has never been a coordinator. Which by the way was a requirement in the job description when the job was posted. As far as I am concerned, Fobbs was lucky to even get an interview because he wasn't (according to the job description) qualified.

And for the last time please get off of this "Fobb is a Grambling alum" crap! I don't give a dayum about the coach being a GSU grad. Hell, Coach Rob is not a Grambling alum.

When was this question asked? I simply asked which SWAC coaches (new/old) are on the bubble?

PERSONAL INFORMATION
Full Name: Lee Andrew Fobbs, Jr.
Birthdate: July 20, 1950
Birthplace: Monroe, Louisiana
Hometown: Monroe, Louisiana
Education:
1976 M.S. in Sports Administration from Grambling
1973 B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Grambling
1968 Carroll High School in Monroe, Louisiana

Marital Status: Married to the former Sheila Jackson
Children: Broderick (29), Jamaal (25), Chelsea (13)
Hobbies: Reading and being with his family.

Never a coordinator but has coached every position on the 1-A level. And what was Doug's resume before being named head coach. I'll bet you a crawfish dinner that Fobbs has learned more from Dennis Franchoine than Spears has learned from Doug.

EXTRA POINT: Jefferies has never been a A.D., but he's done more in six months for Gram than the previous two. It took someone from the outside to notice Gram did not own the ''G'' logo. :lecture:

tHERE IS A NEWLY APPOINTED HEAD COACH WHO MUST HAVE A WINNING SEASON.

I was responding to this.

EXTRA POINT: I keep mentioning Fobbs' name because it is rare to have someone from your family who is that qualified come back and lead your program. Alum understands that the institution is much bigger than the program. Signing 41 inelgible players who don't have the grades to be admitted to a school with open enrollment admissions looks worse on the institution. :shades:

Have you seen the kind of players that Doug recruited when he was coach. Doug is an alum.

What else?

Last night I was crusing the TV stations and passed Mississippi Outdoor's on PBS.

I stopped because the host was talking about fishing off CAT Island on the coast for Giant Red Snapper. I say to myself, "I'll see what he can catch", because I want to do this myself one day on a charter.

When the man introduced his "Guest" that will be going with him .......................GUESS WHO APPEARED ON CAMERA WITH THAT SIGNITURE GRIN ON HIS FACE.

Maybe Fobbs can apply for the Jackson State position. Then after he beat Spears a couple of times he can be promoted to head coach at Grambling

Anthony Jones needs to win and try to win back some of the fans who are upset about his applying for GSU job and his recent "exposure" comment.

MB, speaking only for myself, I don't have a problem with a coach that looks past his front door at other opportunities. You don't know your value on the open market untill you test the market. Also, if it is/was true he didn't have a contract, why not talk to someone that may offer one? I like Jones, and don't want to see him go, but I really don't want a coach nobody else wants. If nobody likes your coach, what is he really bringing to your table.

Also, since he worked for Jeffries (sp) at one time, perhaps it was a show of respect and gratitude applying for the job.

As far as the "exposure" comment, AAMU needs positive exposure. All good schools need it. I don't think you can have too much. If a person is insulted by a coach, President, student or Alumni saying the school needs exposure, that person needs to be "Exposed" for their failure to understand good PR.

My $.02
