Thought you guys would be interested in this from Rivals.com, especially since Spivery gets a lot of attention on this board...

PLAYER OF THE DECADE: Alabama A&M G Obie Trotter, 2002-06. Trotter averaged 15.1 points in his four-year career, leading the Bulldogs to the 2005 NCAA tournament. His biggest contributions, though, may have come on the defensive end. Trotter led the nation in steals in 2004-05, when he was SWAC player of the year.

COACH OF THE DECADE: Alabama State and Southern's Rob Spivery. Spivery took two league teams to the NCAA Tournament - Alabama State in 2001 and '04 and Southern in 2006. He was SWAC coach of the year at each of those schools.

TEAM OF THE DECADE: Alcorn State, 2001-02. The Braves went 21-11 overall and 16-2 in the SWAC before losing to Siena in the play-in game of the NCAA Tournament. Alcorn State started 13-0 in league play and won the conference title by four games.

I dont know how long AAMU coach has been there,but he would have been my choice.

LOL..that dude has one championship in the last 10 years. Jackson and Anderson are far more decorated than him in a shorter period of time.

If I was Spivery, with such a prestigious award, I would retire and ride off in the sunset.

Obie Trotter was good but I'm surprised that JSU's Trey Johnson didn't win it for player of the year.

its always debatable... but ive always said that Obbie was a complete player... led SWAC in scoring, assist, (led nation) steals, free throw %.... if it was for best scorer Trey wins hands down. You cant go wrong with either one though.... both are doing their thing now... Trey is averaging 21 in the D league and Obbie is averaging 20 oversees.

See SU there is a bright spot. Yall need to keep Spivery for about 10 more years, give the man another extension.:lol:

How is that possible, his 5 years at SU have been horrible. I would have thought that his SU tenure would have handed that distinction to JSU's coach.

Former A&M basketball star Trotter named SWAC's best

Former Alabama A&M basketball star Obie Trotter was recently named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Player of the Decade, according to Rivals.com. Trotter led the Bulldogs to the 2005 SWAC regular season and tournament championships. That year, he was named the league's Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and was the tournament's Most Valuable Player while leading the nation in steals. During his career, Trotter, who averaged 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and three steals, was a two-time All-American, a three-time All-SWAC selection and was the league's Defensive Player of the Year twice.
