SWAC BASKETBALL ............ Now that everyone's National Tour is over ...

GOAT FARM!
What do you think your teams chances are on winning the SWAC and going the the NCAA's.

With JSU, based on what we did last year, we may surprise people this year. They have showed signs of comming together as a team, but they don't know how to finish the second half. They played almost everyone tight for the first half and then pull a disappearing act in the second half. I believe this coach will get our program turned around by tournament time.

I have seen two different AAMU teams this year...one that has potential and one that looks confused. Depends on which one comes out to play.

Dang ................ Do anyone feel good about their team. So far, this is shaping up to be a battle of the have-nots.

The SWAC is hard to predict in basketball. Southern may surprise some. MVSU raised some eyebrows with the win over Northwestern. Grambling played Texas A&M in 2 OT'S. I just hope the SWAC is not in the play- in bracket come March.

I like our chances somewhat.

We are severely missing Ra'Kim Hollis. We don't have a true court leader. Allen Lovett needs to step up to the plate.

I think Valley is the team to beat if they stay healthy.

I feel good about our team, but like I said before as long as we are hitting our 3's we can play with anybody. There is no dominant team in the SWAC, because on any night, anyone can get beat especially when rival schools play (MVSU vs. JSU, Alcorn and so forth). The key to this year's MVSU squad is the play of the bench, and if Attarrius Norwood can take games over and be consistent all year, along with Edward Mack.

all you got to do is peak during tournament time and your in.....try to avoid a team like Valley until the championship game and it's all good. Their style of play dictates how successful they'll be.

I think the teams to beat are MVSU and TSU at this point. MVSU is the only SWAC team with a respectabe non-conference record.

Our 3rd Coast Tigers played with an intensity last night that I haven't seen in pre-conference play. It's still early in the season. There is a lot of basketball to be played.

So far I think the top3 teams everybody better look out for are...

WOMENS-
Jackson State
Alabama State
Grambling State

MENS-
Jackson State
Mississippi Valley
Texas Southern

You better look out for AAMU in women's basketball. They led JSU a lot of the game Saturday... JSU was up by 4 with a minute and a half left then AAMU had to start fouling. Hopefully when we get our missing piece in the middle back, we will have the complete team. BTW We beat Grambling last night :)

Well actually Grambling hasn't been competitive in the regular season for a while since those super teams they had....but you never count Grambling out in Womens basketball when it comes down to when it counts.....i.e. last year...SWAC CHAMPIONSHIP.

Our ladies will be just fine. As quick as they came together last year, they will come together even quicker this year. I feel JSU will win the womens side ---- regular season and tournament.

Like I said in the first post of the thread, our men have problems closing out games. They have a nice halftime lead, (A&M and Bamma), but end up in a dog-fight because of lack of concentration. The same can be said when they play a tough first half ----- trailing or leading by a couple of points ---- then come out the second half like they have nothing left. If the concentration and conditioning improve, they should make a good run at it this year ------ and after last year that say's a lot.
