Trust me it does, it may not mean going to a powerhouse right from the SWAC, but he will get some looks. Tony Harvey was in demand last year with mid-majors after TSU's run. Eastern Michigan was one of the school's he turned down and ironically that was our only OOC win this year. I would love to see Sean Woods stay at Valley and build the program. I like to see coaches, expecially those who are good, stay loyal to the SWAC - we often just do not take care of them. It will be a long shot for Valley to keep him though. People do pay attention to coaches in the SWAC, especially the young guys, without baggage, and who can actually coach. It is just easier on the bball and baseball circuits than SWAC football (even though we have had quite a few sWAC assistant football coaches go on to bigger programs). Good game Valley and way to play with discipline and as a team. I think last night was a preview of the tourney championship game. See yall in Dallas!

However, I find it hard to believe that SWAC bball is held in such high regard throughout the country. It's not like ANY of our teams regularly knock off some heavyweights. Or middleweights. We don't. Not knocking Valley, cause they have ran away from the rest of the SWAC (record wise), but until we start winning some OOC games, I question how much the "nation" takes notice of simply beating up on other SWAC teams.
If Murray State had lost all of their OOC games, but ran through the OVC, it wouldn't register nationally. But because they won those OOC games, the "nation" has taken notice.

please explain... who went on to a "better" job after being a SWAC coach lately? I can only think of one and I cant even say if it was a move up and that was buddy from Valley who went to Jacksonville State... he was hired based off his recognition at Southern Miss and he about to be ran out of Jacksonville State at the end of the season.

SU's TE coach just went to middle Tenn St, SU's DB coach was just hired by Syracuse. Texas A&M tried to hire Banks, as a assistant , after he took the SU job.

LOL- Yea I agree with you. I would not say that HBCU basketball is held in high regard throughout the country; the average basketball fan could care less about any mid-major program to be honest. However, what Sean Woods is doing and what T-Harvey did last year is respected in some coaching realms. Especially since Sean Woods is a former bigtime player, has name recognition among some of the coaching circles, he is doing a lot with less, and doing it ethically, I think he will be getting a few calls. Again, not from any of the BCS caliber programs, but potentially from the likes of a MAC or Sunbelt school. Again, I hope he stays - Valley gave him a chance to coach and prove himself when others had him in the film room. Maybe that will cause him to be loyal to Valley for a few more years at least and allow him to build a program. I agree with you about Murray State as well :tup:
SUJag - Valley's only OOC win was against Tennessee State and they played Depaul, South Carolina, and Iowa State close.

I was speaking about assistant football coaches when I said that statement DaHill -

-A few of TSU assistant football coaches are now at other schools, in "better" conferences as well (Kerry Dixon FAU). I don't keep up with other schools like that.
For bball - I think T Harvey (because he was getting looks because of last year's success and he networks like hell) and Sean Woods will be the next to make that jump (even though I think Woods is a much better coach than Harvey IMO). Honestly, if these young coaches come in and don't get caught up in the messiness, pettiness, unethical decisions, and complancency that goes in the SWAC, they could make some noise and a name for themselves. In addition, they have to go to clinics and conferences to learn more and to network. You think our football schedules are isolationists, so are many of our coaches. The coaches that move up want to move up and have the networking skills, talents, and character to do it. The reasons why the older guys can't get out of the SWAC retread cycle is because they bought into the culture of the SWAC instead of trying to change it. Fans don't pay attention, but coaches at the level above you are always looking for the next young coaching talent with potential.

Woods has done a good job and when you really look at the situation.......Even if Woods went to another D-1 HBCU or Mid-major, he would double his money. I don't know exactly what he makes, but I doubt it is more than $80K, being that the Head Football coach is only making $75K......

Ya'll some of the most ass backwards folks i've ever seen. You complain and bitch about the SWAC but when somebody in the SWAC is actually putting a positive face on the SWAC ya'll quick to hate. Anybody that has 2 eyes and ANY lick of basketball knowledge can see that Tony Harvey and Sean Woods can FLAT OUT COACH. Instead of being excited about young coaches putting in work that will maybe galvanize the rest of the conference to seek out better young coaches, we want everybody else to stay content with mediocrity. Just this year Valley had South Carolina (an SEC team), and Iowa St (Big 12 team) beat and gave a scare to a couple others. If Woods can stay a couple more years this is just the tip of the iceberg, but even if he leaves we still have a tradition of winning basketball championships. Lafayette Stribling, James Green, and Sean Woods.............................what do they have in common????? #illwait

Sorry DTGM, but I couldnt watch that Tx South and Valley game Monday night. I was trying, but couldnt. All I saw was players coming down jacking up shots. No set plays, no nothing. Just run and jack by both teams. If that is Woods coaching style, then he's on par with the rest of the SWAC coaches.

I agree. Sorry, but folks wanna act as if Valley is playing at some high level (even saw a post on here where Valley would cause problems for most teams in the Big Dance :retard: ) , but what I saw last night was the typical SWAC that I normally see. (bad decisions and much worse shooting)

Who hating? They made the baskets/goals and the other teams didnt. Congrats on that, but that run and jack type of offense that has plagued the SWAC or even HBCU basketball for years isnt anything to thump your chest over.

Yep. Their style of play is going to cause folks problems. Holding the ball and running sets aint going to win NCAA tournament game.The only NCAA tournament game this conference has won SU run and gunned their way to a victory.

What teams? They will be playing either Kentucky, Syracuse, Missouri, or Kansas. They might win the play-in game though, but I can't see them giving those teams any problems at all. Now if Valley had a better seed, then might could give a #7 or #8 seed a hard time, but not the top-ranked teams in the country.
