I kinda felt sorry for them. SU emptied the bench in the 5th. The score really could have been worst. Coppin's 3rd basemen got hit in the face by a line drive, and was taken to the hospital. I hope he is doing good. The sad thing about it, the kid had a large group of family members that drove down to the game.

They did. The 2nd game only went 7 innings with OK State batting 6 innings.

BUT, lemme remind us, this UAPB team is the same team that has a strong chance of making OUR conference tournament. It's the same team that SU had to come from behind to beat. And it's the same team that beat Valley and beat gram by a score of 7-0.

What that game shows is the lack of pitching depth we all have, especially mid-week pitchers. Every year, all of us get slammed by an OOC team. Some of us has already given up dbl-digit numbers, even 20+ runs.

So, I won't lol at them, cuz i might as well lol at all of us.
 
UAPB lost their ace and only has one legitimate starter for the weekend...after that it's glorified batting practice..Bumpers is a good coach but the hand he's dealt right about now isn't in his favor...

and he has a senior team...
 
Banged-up Southern travels to face Grambling

Published: Mar 22, 2008 - Page: 5C - UPDATED: 12:05 a.m. While Southern?s baseball team is not at full strength yet and Grambling is still getting used to a role as one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference?s better teams, the two will meet for a key, early season series.

Southern (6-7, 5-1 Western Division) visits Grambling (8-10, 6-3) with the teams playing a doubleheader of seven-inning games today and a single nine-inning game Sunday. The action starts at 1 p.m. both days.

?It?s obviously important and big,? Southern coach Roger Cador said, ?but it?s early. If you stumble and fall, you have a chance to get back up.?

Barrett Rey, a former SU assistant, has engineered a turnaround in two seasons at Grambling.

?We still have the element of surprise,? Rey said. ?Nobody knows what to expect from our guys.

?To be in the top three in the conference, Grambling hasn?t been there in a while. But like I remind the players, the only way to stay there is to continue to play hard and do the little things.?

Grambling, which last qualified for a Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament in 2002, lost five of six games to Southern last season.

?We know they?re waiting on us,? Cador said. ?It ought to be fun. Barrett Rey has them playing well. ? He was able to make things happen awfully quickly.?
