A possible preview of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament and, for Southern, a chance to flush away bad memories of a late-March series turned bad await when the Jaguars visit Prairie View.
SWAC titan Southern (21-13, 14-7 Western Division) and defending SWAC champion Prairie View (27-20, 14-4) play a doubleheader of seven-inning games at 1 p.m. today and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
While this is the final weekend of divisional play for SU, PV visits improving Arkansas-Pine Bluff (10-24, 6-12) next weekend.
The Jaguars will be at least the Western Division?s second seed in the SWAC tournament, May 15-20, and with a sweep could take the top seed.
Prairie View won the series a year ago in Texas and went on to the school?s first SWAC title.
?You want to try to finish strong in league play and send a message,? SU coach Roger Cador said. ?That?s our goal.
?And we?ve got to prove what we?ve been all year. Can we go to another conference school and win a series on the road??
SU is 10-1 in its last 11 road games and 8-1 on the road in SWAC play (losing 10-9 at Texas Southern on April 15).
