SU Signs Nation Top baseball player

your Coach made it a point to include where the kid's father went and your newspaper even researched it....so obviously that brings me into it.

when I said Texas is on lockdown for trying to build their program I'm speaking the truth.....our top two starters were high SU targets because they were black, starting pitchers. You got folks saying tradition this and that but I'm trying to prove the kid you recruit now ain't worried about the past 30 years, it's recent past they are looking it. Yeah, yall had 24 drafted but idea we had 3 kids who stepped foot on campus after 1 year and were snatched shows kids look at the also.

the thing is..half of you all on here doesn't even care about baseball or even attend games but get upset when I throw things out like I'm not supposed to have an opinion because I'm around it all the time.

That's petty. Cador is bigger than PV baseball and PV BASEBALL was not even mentioned. PV football was mentioned. I guess the Pittisburgh Steelers should take offense also. :retard: Just face it PV baseball is a smaller fish than SU baseball. You can't even compare the 2. What past does PV have? Tell me that. That's like saying players ain't attracted to LSU anymore. :lmao: :lmao:

PV was mentioned...reading is fundamental....

what does the past (30-40 years) have to do with the future? If the past could sell tickets, more than 1 SU fan (TillIdie) would care about baseball on here...

Band fan what what do you mean that louisiana is not a baseball state. one year Tulane and ULL made the college world series together. Southern has many SWAC titles and on the high school level louisiana won the American Legion title a few years ago

The Band Fan, I'll admit like many other posters on the board that the SWAC west has gotten competitive, especially the two Houston area school. No longer can we expect to go undefeated in SWAC play like in the past. Up until last year only 3 school had won a SWAC title with Southern winning most of them. We welcome a competitive PV, Valley, Pine Bluff, etc it's good for the conference. I have nothing but admiration for your school past, served in the military with some fine officers from PVUAM. Because someone don't post on baseball threads doesn't mean they not supporters. I go to tennis and soccer matches when I'm in town but never post about it. We all love you like the alum you are:D . Some just like to return the favor when you single out our school. Good luck to you and your athletic program.:wavey:

PV BASEBALL was not mentioned. Reading is fundamental so read what I said. :retard: The guy's father was a notable member of PV's FOOTBALL TEAM and won 2 Super Bowl Titles. Are you psychic?? How can you tell the future? You're just a bitter FORMER Jaguar.

when I say its not a baseball state, I mean a hotbed for producing homegrown talent...look at SU's lineup this season, half of them aren't from the state.

Psycho....PV was mentioned..that's great we're getting pub in another state...now some kid may see that and forget about the "recent" past....

hardly bitter...got plenty of SU in my family and know a few decision makers but we need some diversity around here

There is plenty of homegrown talent in Louisiana, just not as much "black" talent as it should be. Obviously if Cador is trying to find the best black ballplayers and the amount of talent in-state is not very plentiful, other avenues must be explored. I wish that there were more people out there looking to help develop young black players, not just in Louisiana but all over. At this point I just don't see it happening. You have to be joking to say that a programs past has no bearing on a recruit. In all cases this may not be true, but for the most part a programs past gives you a good indication of things to come. Schools get reputations for developing next level talent and that leads the scouts in MLB organizations to flock to see who's coming next. It is not a mistake that Southern has had so many players drafted over the years. When you build such a reputation for winning like SU has, naturally people will begin to take notice. That led to scouts showing up and realizing that there was a lot of talent to be had. This led to a very high number of players being drafted. This leads kids like Cameron Maybin and Calvin Anderson to want to be a part of that. In all honesty when someone thinks Southern baseball they think talent rich program that consistently develops players, when people think of Prairie View baseball they think of an up and coming program with far less credibility at this point. I know that you don't like Southern, but don't try to diminish a prestige that has been built with a lot of sweat and hard work. THAT'S NOT FAIR TO THE PEOPLE THAT HELPED GET THEM THERE.

I don't think anyone really cares where Anderson's parents went to school. It was just a way of showing how the parents wanted their kid to have the black college experience like they did. "He fell in love with (Southern). Mom and Dad went to Prairie View, so we're real happy our kid wants to go to a school such as Southern." quote from Calvin Anderson's father.

they do...but baseball is a different animal....most schools wait until the summer because some kids won't make college decisions until the draft is over. By then sometimes, football takes over and that's it.

Most HBCU's wait until the summer or fall to post signees becuase:
1. they're too few coaches to actively recruit while in season,
2. don't want to post recruits until they're enrolled,
3. poor communication between the coach or SID or
4. inept SID department.

The signings are a great achievement for Southern and HBCU baseball.
