SU Seeks Control Of Bayou Classic

Not true, Georgia and Georgia Tech play on the same day on ABC every year.

Now, how is it that we are being pimped when the sponsors are the one paying the bill? Dude, GSU or SU doesn't have that kind of money to pay NBC directly. You all had better believe that there is no way in hell that State Farm, Ford, Coca-Cola and the rest of the sponsor would be willing to pay that kind of money if there was no benefit to them.

NBC is also a sponsor of the event, which means they probably provided a discounted package for the 4 hours that is booked for the game. In November, take a look at your Tivo, cable, or TV guides to see the time that is reserved for this game. Chances are that it will be for 4 hours. With the exception of the major bowl games, there isn't a regular season game (on any level) that is slotted for 4 hours like the BC is.

And that crap about BCF losing is just that...crap, because the game is between GSU and SU. And they ain't losing jack.

Soggy, Jayrob aint getting it. He wants us to give him numbers and we have.

I know that these people can't be this stupid.....If you actually think that SU and GSU would pay 1 mil to be on NBC and not NET a big return on that INVESTMENT then ya'll are dumber than I thought (Jayrob aka Kobesrod).

No, these people ain't stupid. Networks PAY you for your show, you don't pay a network for your show.

SEC send help fast.

In this case...its not the network that is paying us for the show. The sponsors are.

But then again, when comes to TV. The sponsors always pay the bills.

Where the numbers at bruh provin you making a legitimate profit??

How in the hell are YOU dictatin the terms when you don't even have control over something as simple as what day the game is played on?

Notre Dame is the one dictatin terms if anybody is.

and who are you to ask for numbers? lol you are from Jackson in a whole different state lo

Dang, No wonder why our league is going down...1st Grambling and Southern aint paying anything, zero, nothing, not a thing... Sponsors pay the cost... So if anybody getting pimped its the sponsors of the event.. and we all no from katrina, State Farm aint taking no loss, Southwest airlines not taking a loss... So im not getting the point.. yes its lots of college games that weekend....But unlike most of our schools; NBC knows how to make a schedule... NBC Only shows ND and the Bayou ClAssic so it aint that hard!!! the chairmen are just saying the event has nothing to do with suno, su- shreveport, the law school or anyother of their schools.... Let stop playing dumb just to here ourselves talk..somebody else from nbc, the sec, or anybody else outside swac might decide to read this...

I just gotta say it.

SOME OF YALL ARE STUPID AS HELL.

Let me ask a few questions,

1) how many times have your school been on NBC, ABC, CBS or FOX?
2) How many 1AA games were on NBC, ABC, CBS or FOX.
3) How many times have you posted about we (HBCU's) should not be pimped by promoters and such for classics?
4) How many games have your school had that made a bigger PROFIT for both schools as the Bayou Classic?

Now, SU and Grambling are on NBC, control our own classic, and have control over advertising. Now is this free, no, we have to pay NBC, but make a bigger profit than any of you other school make on any 1 football game and some of yall got nerve to open your ignorant ass mouths.

That "I know you don't pay" attitude is why our championship game is stuck is a sorry ass city like Birmingham not making much money. (P.S. and I know nobody from Pine Bluff is saying anything)

Lewis what is the real story? Take a deep breath and tell me.

JayRob,

No BS...I got numbers for you that came from a recent audit. But before I post it, please tell me what you consider "a legitimate profit"

No BS now...you are on the clock.

OK...you all can't be this clueless. You all act as if Gram and SU pays $1 million dollars to NBC and don't get nothing back in return.

GSU and SU (the BC committee) pays NBC for the air time and then the BC committee makes its money from the ad spots.

Believe me, its not called the STATE FARM Bayou Classic for nothing. State Farm has to pay a premium to be listed as the title sponsor. The fees that State Farm pays alone to be the title sponsor likely pays for the air time to NBC. This does not include the money that is paid by other sponsors (Ford, Coca-Cola, The Marinies, Southwest, etc.)

You guys can play dumb if you want to, but there isn't a HBCU classic game out there that has the kind of payout that BC does.

SOG--:happydance::happydance::happydance:

Sometimes you have to take people at face value. Some of them are just that dumb. :emlaugh:

I going to go really slow for some of you...

Before:
NBC paid the schools a flat amount for us to be on TV.
NBC sold ads and received all the profit.

After:
Grambling and Southern pays NBC $1 million to be on NBC (really paid by the sponsers).
Grambling and Southern sells all ad space and receives all profit which exceeds the flat amount that NBC once paid them.

Simply put... We dictate the terms. That is pimpin.

 :emlaugh:

Business 101 send help fast!!! So you're telling me if I were to invest 1 mil into anything and get a return on that 2-3x's or more then that's not smart???? The money isn't in just being on T.V. it's the advertisements!!! Think about it.

P.S. we are not the SEC........BCS conference vs HBCU Conference.

Ya'll act like NBC couldn't make $1M themselves off this. They ARE paying money (by not getting the sponsorship money themselves). How much money do you think a 4 hour slot could get from sponsors? In a 1 hour slot there are 44 minutes of airtime (for a TV show) and 16 min of commercials. That's 32 30 second slots, and in football it could be even more because of the number of possession changes and timeouts (game and TV). Lets round down to 30 per hour, which in a 4 hour slot is 120 opportunities to sell commercial time. The schools sell the spots for 25-40K each according to a recent article. Now how much money do you think we are "losing" on that if we (our sponsors) only put up $1M?

Even if we only sell 90 slots.... at $30K each... that's $2.7M....not saying we made that much, but dang we AIN'T losing a dime.

LOL. They don't understand J4L. The reason they pay ND so much money is because NBC knows they will make even more money from all the SPONSORS that pay them for the slots while showing ND football. Everybody invests somehow to make money on returns. Aint nothing free in life. I know when Kellogg's bought 2 different slots in 2000, it was for 35 thousand. I was there and with the VP of Marketing when gave the go ahead. Then Kellogg's decided hell let's become a sponsor the next year. They spent over 100K just in 2000 and that amount is more than that now from them.

That's my whole point. These su and grambling folks know exactly what we're talkin about. If this was another school having to pay out money, they'd be all over those schools like white on rice, but because it's THEIR schools that's bein pimped, they wanta spin it and try to look at the glass as bein half full.

They still haven't answered the question: what other school is having to pay out money to get money, other than su and grambling?

That's not the issue here, so USE ME as a diversion tactic to steer attention away from the fact that folks have been hoodwinked for years thinkin su was getting paid a million dollars from NBC when it's the exact opposite.

Yall opened this can of worms. I'm just piggy backing off of this information that's been made public.

By the way, what other school has to pay out money to get money other than su and grambling?

Hell, even college basketball teams don't have to pay NBC money to be aired on television, but for some odd reason, two HBCU schools have to. This is what I'm tryin to wrap my brain cells around.

Jay,

Will you please hurry up so we can get an answer? Sheesh.... :happydance:

TP, don't fall for the old diversion tactic trick. I refuse to be used as a tool in SOG's numbers game. Either he has them or he doesn't. I hope those numbers can be verified once he posts them.

Please ANSWER SOG's question and stop throwing inflammatory words around to get an answer to your question. This is not Sesame Street, nor are you Einstein, and you're NOT coercing anyone psychologically to give you information by using words like pimp. If weren't so lazy, you could do the RESEARCH yourself and find out..............Just trifling. :emlaugh:

So you don't care if the schools turn a profit after the costs, you just want to fuss?

Why should I do research on numbers that SOG supposedly has? I asked the question long before SOG put up his ultimatum, so this is just a stalling tactic at best.
If you have the numbers, post 'em. Tryin to entrap me with my own words like yall got entrapped when Thames shed the light on what su's been doing for all these years.

The Bayou Classic has been exposed for what it is.
The MCC may now be the biggest HBCU classic in the nation, now that all this has come out. And that my friends is the bottom line.

So you don't care if the schools turn a profit after the costs, you just want to fuss?

Didn't say that at all. Just didn't understand why people claimed su was gettin a million dollars from NBC to play when it was the other way around.

Second, after ALL THESE YEARS, you'd think NBC would've waved a mere million dollars. To me, it's seems to be a bit racist to force two Black schools to pay while the White school gets paid TWICE.

A little info to help the coversation.......

Pigskin payday: for many HBCU athletic departments, the annual football classics keep their sports programs afloat
Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Dec 28, 2006 by Add Seymour, Jr.

Southern University Athletic Director Greg LaFleur was smiling long before his Jaguars defeated rival Grambling State University in the State Farm Bayou Classic on Thanksgiving weekend.

It wasn't the prospect of winning the game that had him giddy. It was the financial windfall his athletic department was about to get out of the game.
"It's a huge asset to our department," LaFleur says. "For Division I-AA schools like us, it is the biggest game you have. There's no other way you can generate that kind of revenue."

With their huge corporate sponsors, big profits and wide visibility, the classics are the financial lynchpin for many HBCU athletic departments.
Baton Rouge, La.-based Southern, which has a $7 million budget for its 18-sport athletic department, is a prime example. Student fees and ticket revenues account for about two-thirds of the university's athletic income. The rest comes from one game, the Bayou Classic.
"

That game is the reason we can support our other sports," LaFleur says.
