SU Seeks Control Of Bayou Classic

That makes perfect sense, but until the figures are produced it looks like a raw deal. And I can imagine the comeback "why should anyone outside of Gram/SU give a damn"? The news Article is out there and until the facts are produced it looks like Gram/SU are paying 1mil where is the return- FACTUAL!

I usually try not to respond to dumb posts...especially when I have taken the time to educate those that are clueless or play clueless (which is worse).

But I ask you...Do you honestly think that the BC committee would spend $1 million dollars (of someone else's money) for TV air time if they were not getting a decent return on investment?

This is from an article published in 1999

But even after the cost of lodging and meals for the two football teams, each school figures to receive a net about $600,000 apiece from ticket sales alone.

Did I say this was from the year 1999?

Come on man...

Two things: I sure this article must be talking about Southern's half of the Bayou Classic only. They should say that. Can someone explain what they mean in the "we pay NBC 1 million dollars, they don't pay us statement"? WTH

SU seeks control of Bayou Classic

Board delays decision after heated debate

A heated debate about the management of the Bayou Classic football event was squeezed in during a chaotic Friday at Southern University.

Between two private sessions to discuss litigation by a top Southern official and before announcing his sabbatical leave, acting Southern University System President Ed Jackson tried to push the Southern Board of Supervisors to immediately hand over control of the Bayou Classic to the main Baton Rouge campus.

The nationally televised football game against Grambling State University and the high-profile events surrounding the November game are handled by the Southern University system, which oversees five individual campuses.

The board ultimately decided to delay the power struggle until the next board meeting when a report on the Bayou Classic financing is complete.

?I think it most appropriate that complete management be returned to the Baton Rouge campus,? said Jackson, who was chancellor before being appointed interim president last month.

?That is where the team is, that is where the band is,? he said.

Board member Tony Clayton of Port Allen interpreted the move as a way to strip power from suspended system president Ralph Slaughter, who is slated to return from his paid suspension after July 6........

Dude, this issue has nothing to do with Grambling. As hard as that maybe for you to believe.

Jesus.

some of yall are so stupid, if yo seriously think that SU and GSU don't get money for the classic lol: on the real other hbcu's need to learn how to market themselves like GSU and SU. Answer this question! What HBCU football game is on national TV(NBC,ABC,CBS) besides the Bayou Classic which is on NBC? Answer: NONE! So stop hating and stop criticizing until yall get all the facts and if youaren't from GSU or SU,why would you care about what the payout is anyway. Hate to be blunt but i'm just keeping it real!

A few years ago MD made a statement that AAMU benefited from the BC. Some of you laughed at my statement, but you didn't know how we benefited. During a visit to the BC, we saw something and when we got back to Bama, we inquired about it and ended up with $50.000 by knowing what to ask for. Every SWAC Team can benefit indirectly from the BC. Therefore, keep the game on NBC.

I know dat im just saying, Why should it be moved in Baton Rouge?

Or maybe im just not gettin it?

This one is flying over your head. I don't know where Grambling's BC money goes, but the practice was that SU's BC money went into the system's general fund instead of the Baton Rouge campus' coffers to be used for our athletic programs.

Believe me, no one wants to move this game to Baton Rouge and that's my home, but I wouldn't want it here.

Another man from the board is gone. I can't wait until next week.

You may spend money to make money but this is PIMPING to the 10th degree. That game is the only show in AMERICA on that day. The SEC, BIG 10 , Big12, even Conference USA has TV deals with major networks that generates revenue from the TV deal alone. I'm SHOCKED that NBC is not paying a dime to televise the biggest draw in all of BCF.

Sure, Grambling and SU win financially in the end because there are several more contributors to the revenue pool, but in the end BCF still loses because if the biggest draw PAYS the network, then the other games don't stand a chance.

I just gotta say it.

SOME OF YALL ARE STUPID AS HELL.

Let me ask a few questions,

1) how many times have your school been on NBC, ABC, CBS or FOX?
2) How many 1AA games were on NBC, ABC, CBS or FOX.
3) How many times have you posted about we (HBCU's) should not be pimped by promoters and such for classics?
4) How many games have your school had that made a bigger PROFIT for both schools as the Bayou Classic?

Now, SU and Grambling are on NBC, control our own classic, and have control over advertising. Now is this free, no, we have to pay NBC, but make a bigger profit than any of you other school make on any 1 football game and some of yall got nerve to open your ignorant ass mouths.

That "I know you don't pay" attitude is why our championship game is stuck is a sorry ass city like Birmingham not making much money. (P.S. and I know nobody from Pine Bluff is saying anything)

Good points Sperm!
NBC NOT paying anything to televise the game is a travesty in and of itself. Revenue derived from sponsors should be IN ADDITION to what the schools should be getting from NBC.

Maybe someone's being paid under the table to keep this deal going? Worth looking into.
Still though, su's paying out one million dollars to be on television?! Dayum!!
I sure would like to know how much they're making after they've paid off their :pimp: daddy, NBC.

The old Kobe Bryant diversion tactic?? It ain't workin this time bruh!!
You need to pray for su, now that the cat's outta the bag.

su people may as well be payin their tithes to NBC.:shame:

Sir Gram, do you understand now???

This has NOTHING to do with Grambling. This is the result of a power struggle and who get's the money from the game.

The money should have always gone to the BR Campus. Primarily to the athletic and music departments.

I going to go really slow for some of you...

Before:
NBC paid the schools a flat amount for us to be on TV.
NBC sold ads and received all the profit.

After:
Grambling and Southern pays NBC $1 million to be on NBC (really paid by the sponsers).
Grambling and Southern sells all ad space and receives all profit which exceeds the flat amount that NBC once paid them.

Simply put... We dictate the terms. That is pimpin.

Where the numbers at bruh provin you making a legitimate profit??

How in the hell are YOU dictatin the terms when you don't even have control over something as simple as what day the game is played on?

Notre Dame is the one dictatin terms if anybody is.

Uhh, the date of game is dictated by the schools. It has been played the Sat. after Thanksgiving since the early 90s.

It is the SWAC that can't get us to change the the date of the game.

CD, some of us are just stuck on stupid... The NCAA couldn't get us to move the game for the playoffs but we don't control our date. Laughable at best...

Dayum lie....ain't no way in hell NBC gone show a SWAC game when the other major 1-A school called Notre Dame is playin, so yall HAVE to play on a date when ND is not playin.

Tell the whole story for once. Yall ain't controllin jack, you just think you are. That's salemanship 101....make the buyer think he's in control, when it's really the seller who's in control. It's called brainwashing, mind control, pimpology.

To each its own, but you know what the Big12, Notre Dame, SEC, PAC10, etc would tell a major television network to go if they even thought about asking them to PAY to be on TV.

My point was simply that if this game is the biggest game in all of BCF and they had to PAY NBC to televise the game, then BCF will NEVER get on a TV network because this isn't practicle.

I wiould be willing to bet that this game probably doesn't NET anymore than then major Classics.

What is a lie, JayRob?

If we intentionally play our game when Notre Dame is not playing to ensure it is on TV, we again control our date. So, that shoots your whole arguement down...

Again, the date of our game is set by us using all information available to benefit our universities. I know it's hard for you to believe that black people are capable of making sound business decisions based on the best ROI for us (probably just how you were raised).

We could always just take what they were giving us and be happy with it or we could want more. Which would you choose?

Then you would be wrong...
