Southern University Athletic Director Greg Lafleur surrendered to police Tuesday after his wife accused him of spousal abuse.
Lafleur, 47, 2911 Rene Beauregard Ave., was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison about 2:45 p.m. on one count of domestic abuse battery, police spokesman Sgt. Don Kelly said.
Lafleur later bonded out of prison and was released on his own recognizance.
Lafleur?s wife called police Jan. 15, complaining that he pushed her to the floor and struck her in the head during a fight, Kelly said.
The investigating officer noted Lafleur?s wife had a ?red bump on her forehead? the day the alleged incident happened.
Lafleur?s wife ran to a neighbor?s house to call police and when she returned, Lafleur had left with the couple?s 17-month-old son. The child was returned unharmed, Kelly said.
Kevin Manns, Southern University?s director of sports information, released this statement in regard to Lafleur?s arrest: ?We consider the matter involving Southern University Athletic Director Greg LaFleur to be a personal matter, and the University and Department of Athletics has no further comment on the matter.?
