Brian Johnson, who took over the program in 2010, is reportedly accepting a position as assistant track coach and recruiting coordinator at Georgia, the school announced Tuesday.

“Brian has recruited stellar student-athletes to Southern and built both our men’s and women’s teams into perennial championship contenders. I wish him and his family well,â€￾ Broussard said.

Under his leadership, Southern placed second in the 2014 SWAC championships.

Sprinter Devin Jenkins, who is also leaving the program, was granted his release by the university, school officials confirmed.

Jenkins is the current 100-meter and 200-meter SWAC champion.

Reports indicate that Johnson could enroll at Texas A&M and be eligible to compete immediately.

Wow. Well, when you see your school is slowly but surely getting banned in sports you leave. Because it is kind of like competing for no reason. Man smh

I mean the sprinter is going to one of the best track programs in the country at Texas A&M. Only Florida, Oregon, and Arkansas can compete with them in Track.

On top of not funding this program very well in the last few years I don't blame Johnson for leaving and going to a stable program he will make more as an asst then he did at Southern with no raise I wish him well!

Here comes the excuses right on cue.
Dude please. These folks are leaving su in droves yet you guys are still saying, "everything will be fine". LOL!
Reminds me of Caesar playing the fiddle while Rome was burning to ashes.

It was only a matter of time before Brian Johnson left for a bigger program. It's unfortunate that he's leaving and Devin's leaving as well. Can't cry "woe is us", gotta move on and keep working to make things better...

and also

Reminds me of Caesar playing the fiddle while Rome was burning to ashes.

Um...that was Nero that played the fiddle while Rome burned ...

Here comes the typical BS....... :smh:

Anywho.... Well wishes to both Coach Brian and Jenkins...
Never gonna knock a brutha for continuing to grow.

Some of ya'll are really out of touch with reality. One cat gets a spot a Georgia, and the other at Texas A&M, last time I checked that kind of validates the type of talent others think they are. I could see if they were going to Spitbucket Community College.

This just shows the quality of athletes and coaching SU has :) . Even though some BCS schools were on the prowl, not one football player that was going to play left :) .

Must have been funded pretty good, we finished above tSU in both men and women last year. Didn't both SU teams have a 2nd place finish in the outdoor championships.

Might want to research that one again.

The big schools will raid the SWAC once they find out their athlete is better than theirs...it happens constantly in track but its never reported on

All it takes is a first place finish at their meet and your on the radar..

A&m took a PV high jumper last year....we mold them, make them competitive and then a pat Henry takes them once they find out they're legit and claims credit

2003 SU beat LSU in 7 on 7 and Saban tried to get Lenny Williams to transfer because he locked Micheal Clayton down.

This is not just in track, but add basketball as well. This is being done for a reason. Can you say N-C-A-A ban?
