Strongman deadlifts 1100 lbs

I wrote about a strongman in today's paper. He's a full-time mechanical engineer.

Several years ago, Dennis Cornelius was once asked to move a piece of heavy equipment that weighed close to 900 pounds.

The request, described by Cornelius as “odd,” is not something a mechanical engineer is normally tasked to do.

But Cornelius, 36, of Tulsa, just so happens to be a 5-foot-10, 265-pound muscle-bound professional powerlifting champion.

“My co-workers make fun of me because I don’t look like a typical mechanical engineer,” he said. “I guess I look a lot different.”

Cornelius, who is the No. 1-ranked powerlifter in the world across several federations, broke three world lifting records at the 2016 IPF Open Raw World Championships in Killeen, Texas, in June.

He set world records in the squat (833 pounds) and bench press (558). He also pulled 766 pounds on the dead lift for a total of 2,157 pounds.

It's great when one can hit those bench goals they set forth. Way back when, I wanted to hit 400lb bench while 6'/218lbs. I hit 360 and hit a brick wall: life. lol Marriage, business travel, corp consumption did away w/ it all. And now, the rotator problems are evident recently. I think it's a given that if one continues to stress the joints w/ heavy weight, joint problems will occur and this is no fun - the pain and stiffness. :(

Leave them barbells alone. Stick to dumbbells. Much better once you start having mobility issues.

I saw guys doing the dumbbells through the years and never thought anything of it as I was reared on the barbell w/ the 45s. That bar really hurts the hell out of my rotator cuffs. I have another cousin who's 6'7" 340lbs and he had a 500+ lb bench and he too is experiencing the rotator problems. Says he can barely lift the 45lb barbell w/out pain. That's what I'm experiencing too and I refuse to go to a doc because most wanna' cut, fix-create a new problem, and get the insurance and co-pay lol.

I have had a few rotator cuff issues my self.

5'10, 265. thats decent size too. I am glad he is not in Heart attack weight category. OAN, I have a goal of hitting a 500 lb bench press before next year.

That cat looks bigger than 265. Be sure to record that 500 lb bench press.
