State Farm To Drop Bayou Classic

Why do Louisiana people use Hurricane Katrina excuse for EVERYTHING? That was 7 years ago. That doesnt have anything to do with Bayou Classic attendance now.

Check pre Katrina attendance. When you got over thousands and thousands that got displaced over the country that attended and supported the Classic that Katrina excuse is validated. Hell no one really heard about the MCC until Bayou Classic attendance dropped after Katrina. The number 1 and 2 spots were between the Bayou Classic and Florida Classic. Fact

Honestly, I think it has alot to do with the fact that Southern has been fielding pretty bad teams lately. Grambling folks don't really attend the BC in large numbers and it seems like the Southern fans have been staying away from the BC recently.

If nobody heard... they just dont know about HBCU sports.... The MCC has consistanly bee in the top 3 in attendance for a LONG time... the highest attended game was the 50th annual in 91 with over 70k. Recently the MCC grew with tailgating... even 10 years ago the tailgating wasnt anything compared to where it is now. Now you got over 100k tailgating outside the stadium. The MCC is just growing where most Classics are declining. The Bayou wasnt just a Louisiana thing.... it was a national event. When I was in school in ATL, there was even an AUC bus that went to the game.... alot of busses from HSV went every year. The MCC is mainly an Alabama and surrounding states event, so in that case it has done well from a local point of view.

There are 100,000 less people in New Orleans as of 2010 than there were before Hurricane Katrina.

It didnt affect the Saints attendance. Most of those inner city folks wasnt paying 40-50 dollars to go to a football game in the first place. If someone wants to attend a game.... they will attend. I live 6 hours from Huntsville and dont miss a game.

I know you aren't serious. Majority of people that attend Saints game are white people, it's the black people of New Orleans that got displaced. WOW, i know you're not serious. No comparison. Lord some of you lack mental bandwidth.:emlaugh:

Maybe the two schools need to take it back to their home stadiums to help their local economy if things don't work out.

Black college football has run its course. It's time for schools to start placing heavy emphasis on other sports to make a move to the FBS. Furthermore, enhancing their academics as well.

As far as the Bayou Classic...it will be just another game in 5 years.

Ding! Ding! Ding!!

Especial SWAC Football with its path to "nowhere"...

Dude please. Since Katrina, neither SU and Grambling have not had two decent football teams at the same time. Two winning football teams will solve your problem overnight.

Dude Bayou Classic was in the 70,000's when both teams had bad seasons sometimes. Your statement has no merit. New Orleans people were a big part of the attendance. Stay in Miss because you know nadda. Outside looking in. Economy is a big factor, hotel prices etc. That will solve problem overnight. Two winning teams are only icing on the cake.

SU wasn't this bad for such a long period of time, especially since Peete. This shows that they were carrying the BC all along.
Grambling folks haven't had to witness losing like SU has, so what's the excuse for not filling up Gramblings side of the stadium?

Look at the Bayou Classic pre Pete. SU was sorry as hell but the Classic still had high attendance. Economy was much better etc. Some of you see the glass half full. BTW, actually Grambling has been much better these past few years attending the Classic.

Your school's not even in the top 30 in FCS attendance, so what does "much better" mean? How can you verify this with your overall numbers and the television pictures showing a half empty Grambling side?

You do know that sponsors like State Farm take all of that into account don't you?

One thing about Grambling they travel better for Classics. You do know those games don't count in attendance. Oh the invy.:emlaugh: You do know State Farm is going through a lot of restructuring? Or don't you. Finances is my area, i know whats going on and they will drop out of more Classics, watch.

Please. If there were 70,000 folks packing the Superdome, there's no way they would've pulled out. Perhaps they see the handwriting on the wall based on attendance decline over the past 3-4 years.

If the games don't count, that's even worse. This tells me your folks don't attend home games. If they don't attend home games, why would they attend road games? That's backwards and illogical. Sounds like you're making excuses now.

2007- SU was 8-3 and Grambling was the SWAC runner-up
2008- SU and Grambling were tied for 1st place with PV going into the game, with Grambling winning the SWAC Title
2009- SU and Grambling both had winning records

So that argument only works for 2005, 2006, and the past 2 seasons.

Either way, with or without the same population...what are the plans from SU and GSU to try to get the Bayou Classic back on track?

"On the outside looking in"...to ME...it looks like the two schools are moving slow with making changes to improve and add more "glitz/glamour" back to the weekend. Stuff that attracts people to support not only the City of New Orleans but also the game/festivities.

The Rise of LSU has taken a lot of the casual fans away. You can blame it on Katrina, lack of AA fans all you want to. A lot of the younger kids and families are now diehard LSU fans and could care less about Gram and SU... Back before SU got good AA attended this because it was the premeir event for us.. Now you have a good NFL team taking dollars away from this event as well as you have the Essence festival that started 20 years ago. A lot of folks now get their New Orleans trip early. No need to run back down to the N.O. a few months later...

Those teams were nowhere near the quality teams Pete put on the field and SU fans knew this. When SU has a quality product, even their casual fans will make it to New Orleans.

So why is State Farm pulling out then? With a firm as large as them, they look at bottomline numbers. If those numbers don't show progress, they don't mind pulling the plug.

Who will be the new sponsor?

Jayrob I suggest u call State Farm to find out since you are itching to know. As far as a new title sponsor everyone will find out if and when it happens. I'm sure it will happen.

I suggest you call and ask also lol. BTW, State Farm provided money, goods, and/pr services in exchange for the exclusive right to have the their name appear prominently before the title of the Classic. They needed us more than we needed them. The Classic survived before them and can survive without them lol. This departure maybe a blessing. Someone better can come in and do some things to get more butts back in the seats. I actually think they should package the BOTB's/Greekshow with the actual game. Have that package for a very affordable price and once the economy gets better if that ever happens, raise the price once again.
