Spurrier to Notre Dame?

If Willingham doesn't go 11-1/10-2 the next two years, will the Notre Dame faithfull push to bring in Spurrier??? Spurrier's kids will be out of primary school within the next two years I think and Spurrier could be looking to get back into coaching.

I'm telling you,,, if Ty doesn't freaking win a championship, i think the heat could get unbearable on him. I mean,, right now Notre Dame sucks severely. How can the ND fans take another season or two of this, especially with Spurrier out there. I don't think they can.

How good could a Spurrier-coached Notre Dame team be???? that is scary. I don't want to see it. (i HATE Dame)
 
Spurrier will not coach outside of the South.

If you want the scoop, then I would say keep an eye on that North Carolina Booster Club and their interest in Spurrier.

Coaching aint the problem at ND. Talent is. They need to join the Big East or Big Ten. Being an independent has finally caught up with them. I would not worry about Ty anyway. He has Bill Walsh ties which means he will land somewhere. The NFL has been high on him for years. Now of course if he does not win at ND, he will have to enter the NFL as an assistant. ND has to realize that they are not an attractive program anymore. Plus they are not willing to just take any type of kid due to their admission standards. Digger Phelps the old ND basketball coach retired for the exact same reasons. He couldn't get the kids he had when he was winning. He mentioned that several times when he first started working at ESPN. Another thing that has hurt ND was the way they played football. They waited too long to convert to a passing offense like most of the schools which turned most kids off. Heck they are worse than my other alma mater Ohio State in that department. Bob Davie never would open the offense up. Even though he had players like David Givens at WR that is now with New England. Davie had talent but let it waste then got fired and when Ty got there it was only a few players left from the Davie era and they were able to win some games. But now they are gone and he has to recruit from scratch. So the ND faithful are crazy to think they have the talent to win. Poor Ty is just caught coming into ND at the wrong time.

As far as Spurrier. Unless ND fires Ty this year. They will not have a chance at Steve. Look for Spurrier's name to come up at Texas if Mack Brown doesn't finally do something with all that talent. I would say Auburn or Alabama but pride may keep those schools and Spurrier from getting together. Spurrier will coach next year. I don't think he will sit out that long unless there is some under the table deal where he is waiting on a particular job. Too bad Joe Paterno will not retire because Penn State could use Spurrier. They get better talent than ND right now. Also pay attention to the brother at UCLA. If Dorrell doesn't win he may be out as well. I am sure the UCLA faithful aint too happy that cross town rival USC is a power again. Now that job may be real attractive to Spurrier. Nice weather, much talent in state, big name and most of all.......plenty of golf courses for him to play. :lmao:

I heard NC mentioned as a possible Spurrier re-surfacing,,, but why would he go back into a situation where football is not really king? of coarse with the ACC expansion that sets up to be a great "underdog" situation for Spurrier at a North Carolina.

Good point Jafus. I forgot about NC. He would be right back in mix with Miami and Florida State.

BTW, what is the scoop on Mack Brown this year? Does he have to beat Oklahoma or at least stay close to not be on the hot seat. I know he has alot of support from the Administration, but what is the real deal. Texas fans can't be too happy with not winning a championship with all that talent especially in light of what Saban has done in LSU and even how fast Tressel won at Ohio State.

Brown reminds of former Ohio State coach John Cooper. Helluva recruiter, but could not beat his rival or win the big game. We all know what happened to him.

They may have some issues talent-wise from the Davie era, but Notre Dame should have no problem recruiting and reloading with their name and tradition and TV contract. two more years should give Ty time to get his players in (if it is assumed that the cubberts are bare now.).

I wonder would he go back to Florida if zook doesn't work out?

Also on Dame, their scheduling is finally catching up with them also. Their schedule is BRUITAL. nobody can go through that kind of scheduling year after year and not have a drop-off. Willingham has more than his work cut out for him.

Yeah you right about the scheduling. You would think the ND name alone would pull in recruits. I just think the kids don't find ND "sexy" . Meaning that the brand of football there is not exciting to them. Now Ty if given a chance will bring in some players but his cupboard is bare. I am watching the Miami vs FSU game and the big Miami TE transferred from ND. I was like this kid looks like he can play. Probably got tired of just blocking for 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Ty is trying to get players that fit his system but it will take time. Ain't like ND will go the JC route.

Florida is going to be good with that Chris Leak kid at QB. That kid is going to save Ron Zook his job.

Although the general fans have been ready to fire Mack Brown for the last two seasons. The Big time alumni that financially support the program in terms of Millions dollar donations, Rangers/Stars owner and other Fortune 500 CEO, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Executives and etc are all on one accord and have verbally and publically come supporting Mack Brown. So, unless he just gets embarrassed against Arkansas, Oklahoma, or God forbid Texas A & M, he is safe from all the reports I have read and hear between my travels between Houston and Dallas.

Thanks for the insight. I kinda figured that much. I imagine huge losses to OU, Arkansas and definitely to A&M as you said would change those big money minds on him. Spurrier at Texas would be scarier than him at ND in my mind. Just because of the Texas athletes alone. Not to mention the surrounding states and rest of the South.

Interesting article. It makes me wonder even more how intriguing a Spurrier fit would be at ND,, if Willingham doesn't pull off miracles the next two years. If you are some hotshot in the far flung metros that Notre Dame recruits, how compelling would it be to go to Dame with Spurrier as the head coach?
