The 5-foot-8 three-time district-tournament MVP has been with the Lady Rams for four of Parks? five years as coach.

As to why she picked Alabama A&M, "It was close to home and went I went
down for a visit I fell in love with the coaches and players and I felt
right at home." She chose the school near Huntsville, over UTC,
UNC-Wilmington, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Tennessee State, and
Jacksonville University.

Istrouma, Lee basketball standouts sign with Southern

Southern men?s basketball coach Rob Spivery can say his plan to make recruiting local players a priority is paying off.

Two local players, Istrouma?s Douglas Scott and former Lee High player Joe Holliday of Copiah Lincoln Community College, have signed with the Jaguars.

The 6-foot-5 Scott averaged 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots for the Indians, earning all-district honors in District 6-4A. Holliday (6-3) averaged 18.5 points, four rebounds and two steals while earning Mississippi JUCO All-Star honors.

?One of our main recruiting goals is to recruit some of the best local talent,? Spivery said. ?Douglas certainly fits into that plan and so does Joe. We feel like there are several things Douglas can do within our system.

?Joe is a scorer and a 3-pointer shooter who has the ability to create shots off the dribble, which is so important. We?re excited to have them both.?

Scott and Holliday will join one other local player already on the SU roster. Former Istrouma guard Chris Davis sat out the 2005-06 season after transferring from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

-- HESTER SIGNS WITH ALABAMA A&M: Shaw shooting guard Cornelius Hester, a two-time 5A All-Stater and first-team Press-Register Sweet 16 selection, signed a basketball scholarship Wednesday with Alabama A&M.

The 6-foot-4 Hester averaged 20 points and four rebounds per game for the Eagles, who were ranked No. 1 in 5A for much of the season and advanced to the Southwest Regional finals. He was also the team's leading scorer during his junior year, when he led the Eagles to the 5A state championship game.

"I went up there a couple of weeks ago and it just felt like home," Hester said of A&M. "They like to run and shoot and they just lost their shooter, so they're saying if I work hard, I've got a chance of starting."

texas southern signs 6'9 215 bryan harris of silsbee & kenneth lockett, a 5'11 165 combo guard of the same highschool.

this may be the biggest steal in the state so far. Two time runner up for 5a player of the year. I have seen him play 3 times and he almost beat my hometown team in the state championship game last year by HIMSELF. Excellent 3 point shooter. Besides Mike Ford this may be the highest raked player in Alabama that we have ever signed.

Here is the sports segmant of the signing from some Mobile news station....

Hester is a good one. Congrats to the Bulldogs. I'm in Huntsville as I type this and just read the Huntsville Times. Why is there no coverage of the signing in the local paper?

That is on the coaching staff.... there are two players we have signed that there has been no mention in the newspaper or on the website.. I emailed the SID... he said he can only add things to the website when given permission from Pettaway. We have had players sign then outside influences get them to go to prep schools and jucos in hope of getting major D1, so we usually dont see anything in the newspaper to around the summer.
