Hicks, Kent, Williams and Bradley win weekly honors

Hatboro, PA (Sports Network) -- North Carolina A&T running back Maurice Hicks, Jackson State quarterback Robert Kent, Stephen F. Austin linebacker Jared Williams, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff return man Mark Bradley have been honored as national I-AA players of the week by The Sports Network, the division?s most widely recognized information service.

Hicks set a Division I rushing record against Morgan State, Kent continued his passing prowess against Alabama State, Williams led his team to a road upset of fourth-ranked McNeese State, and Bradley set the special teams tone against Texas Southern.

OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Maurice Hicks, North Carolina A&T - Senior, Running Back, 6-0, 205, Emporia, VA. Rushed 34 times for an NCAA Division I record 437 yards in North Carolina A&T?s 52-42 loss at Morgan State...surpassed the previous Division I mark of 409 yards set by Sacramento State?s Charles Roberts against Idaho State on Nov. 6, 1999...also scored four touchdowns in the game...scored on runs of 79, 9, 9, and 52 yards...bettered his previous MEAC single-game rushing record 353-yard performance at South Carolina State, achieved last season...in only his second season with Aggies, needs just 780 yards to establish school rushing mark...leads nation with 182 rushing yards per game.

Robert Kent, Jackson State - Sophomore, Quarterback, 6-5, 205, Indianola, MS. Completed 38 of 57 passes for 595 yards and six touchdowns in Jackson State?s 61-58 loss to Alabama State...also rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown, accounting for 668 of the Tigers? 723 total offensive yards...Leads I-AA with 421.5 yards of total offense per game, 387.5 passing yards per game, and 37 points responsible for per game...has passed for 1,033 yards and 10 touchdowns in the past two weeks alone.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jared Williams, Stephen F. Austin - Junior, Linebacker, 6-2, 245, Bridge City, TX. Recorded a game-high 19 tackles and also intercepted a pass for a 25-yard touchdown as Stephen F. Austin upset No. 4 McNeese State, 26-14, on the road...pick came in the third quarter, and was the first of three SFA interception returns for touchdowns in the second half...helped Lumberjacks to their biggest win in Lake Charles since 1989, and just their second victory at McNeese in the past 12 seasons...leads SFA in total tackles with 37 on the season.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mark Bradley, Arkansas-Pine Bluff - Sophomore, 6-1, 172, Pine Bluff, AR Returned two punts for touchdowns in Arkansas Pine Bluff?s 28-22 win over Texas Southern...returns for scores came from distances of 58 and 77 yards, each in the first quarter...ranks second in the country with a 28.0 avg. on punt returns, and is one of just three players to have returned more than one punt for a score on the season.
