According to Melvin Spears, the oft-used cliche "third time's a charm" may be oh-so true in his case.

Spears told The Clarion-Ledger on Monday that he has applied - a third time - for the Alcorn State football head coaching position.

And this time, Spears says, he believes he'll get it.

"Yes I do," he said when asked if he thinks he'll be hired to replace Earnest Collins.

Collins left the Braves after two seasons to return to his alma mater, Northern Colorado.

According to most, Spears, the former Grambling State head coach, Alcorn quarterback and receiver and current Alabama State offensive coordinator, is the front-runner.

JSU is not scared of Alcorn. Just like JSU has a traditionally had a hard time with Grambling, some things will never change. Alcorn won't be able to keep up with JSU.

It will be good to see what type of staff he assembles and it will be great to see what he does with Air Canada.
 
I never understood the excitment over Spears. Take out the one year with Bruce Eugene and he's a below .500 coach.

Exactly...and that was at GRAMBLING. If you can't win at Grambling, I don't see how you can run schitt as a coach at Alcorn.

We aren't worried, he doesn't have Bruce. We own Mississippi schools lol. Everywhere team in the SWAC he has been at, we have beaten him. Others can't say that. lmao
 
The hell with this mentality of "Jackson State". Right now, my mentality as a Head Coach would be the hell with Jackson State and any other school right now. The only school that matters is the FIRST GAME ON THE SCHEDULE!!!!

I could care less about beating JSU right now. I care about beating ALL SWAC TEAMS but in order to have the best chance at doing that...WE MUST TAKE IT ONE GAME AT A TIME!!!

I said it was a POSSIBILITY Pete Richardson may get the Head Coach job based upon his relationship with Alcorn's AD. I was just showing a business relationship that may be exploited. Whoever the Head Coach is, I want him to show Alcorn's players that hard sacrifices must be made in order to be Champion.
