SOUTHERN'S QUESTIONABLE FUTURE

How in the hell do you come up with this. We beat the isht outta Ala State and had AAMU beat in Crews til we gave away the game in the 4th quarter.

Southern is a decidedly worse team than it used to be when we first came into the SWAC and even from its highs in 2003-2004. It does not seem that much will improve in the near future, especially since Pete's contract is up and some fans don't want the contract renewed. (Some are now campaigning for L.C. Cole) This change in coaching will come at a time when other schools are improving and becoming acclimated to winning in the SWAC (A&M and UA-PB) If L.C. is not hired, the next coach may not have the magic Pete had when he came in. I see Southern headed into a dark period again in the post-Pete era. People don't understand how difficult is to establish a dominant program, or to keep one when there is a change in the coach, especially given how recklessly new coaches are hired.

Alabama State was hampered by loss of scholarships, but Coe will be back when the scholarships come back. Southern was not hampered by anything but bad coaching. Although Southern had the lead on us (like most other teams did), I never had the feeling that it would win the game. It was clear that that Southern has lost a lot in the last two years.

It doesn't matter who has the lead during the game, but it does matter who has the most points at the end of the game. :emlaugh: Ask Buffet man in Jackson. :emlaugh:

AAMU folks,

Just because you won a championship does not mean you have taken over. Look at AlaState. AAMU is about to return to the slums.

Southern's program will be fine. Southern will have a competitive advantage over the Swac again once the facilities are complete.

Southern will have the ability to attract a top notch coach with the money they are planning to pay the next coach.

People kill me saying this.... I can name PLENTY of SWAC's schools whos stadium looks better than Appalachian States.... (AAMU, Crampton Bowl, Memorial, SU, Alcorn).... an upgrade to your stadium ISNT going to mean automatic wins. Kids looking into D1AA schools are concerned withi playing time, they could care less that you are adding 3500 seats to your stadium.

SU will be catching up....carry on....

Catching up to whom? Man yall kill me like everyone in the SWAC has these outstanding facilities. We were able to win without them before and now that we are getting them......woe be the opponents of SU. We are still a marketable program in the SWAC and all of HBCU. It is not like we are some small time school with small time minds. Our alums aint going to stand for us to return to mediocrity for a long period of time. Hell even when I was at SU we never went 3-8. I guess we were like MD says, the best average team back then and we still sent folks to the NFL. All that has happened lately is laziness.......and yes we can blame some of it on facilities. But that is an excuse. We are now rectifying the facility part and soon the laziness of the coach part will be dealt with as well. The future is bright.....why you ask? Because we are SU. Just like the Jukebox got bigger and better after a Legend retired, we will do the same on the football field. One thing the rest of the SWAC can count on is a return to power by SU. You see JSU is on their way too. I am sure Gram aint messing around either. So for people who think the old guard is dead......keep on believing it. We may have hit some bumps in the road.......but we aint no where a dead and bottom feeder program. Now carry on with this ridiculous rhetoric on how SU is dead. Yall gone learn.

Mumford seriously is an old stadium with paint slapped on around it....some schools already have facilities or getting new ones..

For example, PV is getting a weight room and when they get a stadium they automatically catch up with SU...what you have isn't nothing most SWAC schools already have.

when you get your upgrades..someone else will get something better and yall be crying for another upgrade...that's how athletics work

Its not about the seating. Its about the weight room, etc. Southern pre 1999 was able to get any kid in this state that wasn't going Major 1-A. We use to constantly get Mid 1-a talent. Because of the poor facilities(weight room), we haven't been able to attract those same kids. Besides LSU, no school in this state has the fan base/ potential SU has.

Pv is gettting a $200,000 weight room. What SU is getting cost 14 million. You can't compare. Our baseball facility will be better than the weight room PVU is getting.

Why do you and others continue to waste your time and keystrokes on these TSPN folks? Why, JR? Let them think and say what they may.

It aint the stadium addition that is important DaHill. Did you even read the rest of what is going in there? The 3500 seats are the least important piece. The FIELD HOUSE is........that is what will sell the athletes. BTW, Appalachian State is upgrading their facilities as well. They also have a coach and staff who aint lazy. The facility thing is just the eye candy piece of it and it needed attention. Now we will deal with the rest. I swear I think folks really think SU is going to be down a long arse time. With new facilities on the way, a great fan base, and the money we can pay for a good coach is always attractive especially with a school as visible as SU is. Why folks can't comprehend that, I have no idea. But it is what it is. Oh well.

I dont wish for ANYONE to stay down (well except for Bama State :)) I was just simply stating that upgrades dont equal success.

George Guidry.....Cecil Collins....Brad Hill...the Baton Rouge kids at Grambling, etc...come on now....

SU had a better presence in Houston then because of Singletary and lack of presence among TSU and PV at the time...

And his program will still be PV. Panthro is already complaining about their ways. Heck I give Frazier another year and he is gone. Until you give a coach a full deck of cards to play with, you will be just a stepping stone to the next coaching job. Heck we pay our coach more than you are going to pay for a weight room.

BTW TBF,
Mumford is still more attractive than many stadiums in the SWAC. Once the field house is built the players from both teams will be comfortable. They are the ones who count. You think a player is going to be worried because a fan had to use a port or pottie.......as long as he is changing in a nice facility with amenities he aint going to even pay attention to the stadium. Well at least Mumford looks good from the field which is also a nice selling point. Concessions and Bathrooms in Mumford is for the fans enjoyment. Hell that is the last thing on my mind right now. Just get the damn field house done. The field is already there and so is the scoreboard. Aint like the stadium is falling apart. sheesh.......

Eddie,Doug and Spears are from BR so naturally they were able to recruit the BR kid. That pipeline will now be close. I hope Gram realizes that.

bless your heart...he's working you all up, huh?

Dude those kids were transfers. Cecil Collins was a head case. Now that Spears is gone and no Doug connection either. We gone see how many South La players you gone get.......I bet ole Spears is in Pete's office right now.~snicker~

BTW,
We shole did pretty well in Texas last recruiting trip. Yall are in turmoil. You aint going to have a coach for a little while.....instead of you posting here, you need to be helping Gram find a coach and not worry about SU. Also aint no BR kid did no damage to us by going to Gram except that Tramon Douglass. But hell we still beat yall with him on your squad. Oh I forgot you were at PV then so it don't count.
