The Bayou Classic Record Stands: Southern - 14 Grambling - 14

Pete Richardson: 8 - 1 Doug Williams: 1 - 3

While Leading At Halftime: Pete: 1 - 0 Doug: 1 - 2

Pete Richardson coached teams have out scored Doug Williams coached teams after halftime and 2002 will not be any different.
Doug is looking to the SWAC Championship Game and Alabama A & M which will mark the first time that two teams that have played in a previous championship have gotten back to the big dance. But, if the G-Men overlook a healthy Pete Richardson team they will leave the Superdome like they left it in 2000 before they played the Bulldogs before. Bruce Eugene will have an opportunity to meet and greet his homeboy more than once during this sixty minute encounter - Chris Cooper and Tramon Douglas will be covered like a blanket by Lenny Williams. From my point of view I see the G-Men and Doug perform as they have from past Bayou Classics - can't hold on to a lead after halftime.

Prediction: Halftime - GSU: 14 SU - 6

Final Score - GSU: 21 SU - 27

Good Luck GSU in the SWAC Championship Game because we need the trophy in Louisiana for the Sixth year in a row.

Although several other teams will have new coaches in 2003 such as JSU, UAPB; but will Dan Kyle have GSU renamed Southern University at Grambling?

Grambling State University officials put up a roadblock Friday when a legislative auditor came to campus to look into recent thefts of public money. But investigators are adept at cutting roadblocks down to speed bumps, and Monday morning a record number of state auditors walked in the doors of Long-Jones Hall.

So did District Attorney Bob Levy, who showed up to relay a message to acting president Neari Warner: The five-member legislative audit team, led by Sam De Lee, CPA, CFE, will head the probe of thefts that GSU had kept secret until the Morning Paper ran the initial report June 14.

It was De Lee who came across the roadblock last week while he was at the university to assess the need for an in-depth investigation. The officials who refused to give him access to records cited a possible investigation by the district attorney.

In a June 14 letter to Legislative Auditor Dan Kyle--with copies to Levy and University of Louisiana System president Sally Clausen--Warner reported one theft on May 8 and possibly two others. Levy wrote Warner to ask for details of the thefts.

Sources say De Lee found five cases in the files of internal auditor Phyliss Spragin. Only one of the five was included in the three alleged thefts we reported June 21. Then Warner received Levy's letter.

Late Friday afternoon the district attorney--who was on the road at the time--received a call from Daryl Purpera, chief of the legislative auditor's investigative audit section. Through the static of the cell phone, Levy caught the gist of the message: GSU had called a halt to the legislative auditor's inquiry.

As Levy told Warner Monday, there is no conflict between the investigations. Legislative auditors will handle the on-site investigation. The district attorney's staff will provide any backup such as subpoenas needed to follow a money trail.

In an interview Monday, Kyle discounted the significance of sending five investigators instead of the usual two "We just want to get in and get it over with in a week or so, issue our report and go back to other cases."

The five forensic auditors join a like number of compliance auditors who have been on the GSU campus since May 6 preparing for audits of the 2001 and 2002 financial statements. The administration's failure to report the thefts promptly, as required by law, is sure to prompt a finding; worse, the response to the thefts brings up questions about the very credibility of the statements.

In a June 21 letter to Clausen, Warner says she neglected to report the thefts out of "inexperience" rather than a deliberate attempt to conceal. Her predecessor, Steve Favors, also offered a series of excuses--new computer software, staff turnover, lost accounting entries--for the shortcomings that led to financial statements that failed legislative audit standards in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Most GSU supporters could sympathize with administrators who claim to be overwhelmed by a complex accounting process. What they can't understand are administrators who don't follow a simple rule: Call the law when someone steals public money.

Thanks Cat Daddy, BgJag and DTown Jag for covering a brothers back, but those Grambling fools are running from the main issue of the thread and that is Southern University and Pete Richardson will kick Grambling State University and Doug Willams "azzez" in the 2002 Bayou Classic. Throw the records out of the window and my I remind those Gramblingnites of Otis Washington's first year on the "Bluff" before he arrived at his first Bayou Classic his record was 1 - 9 and kicked Eddie Robinson's azz 50 - 20. So, it's seems that the posters feel that Grambling will go into the SWAC Champinship game with a 10 - 2 record. Least we forget when Southern won three SWAC Championships in a row their SWAC record was 24 - 0 including kicking Eddie's azz as a retirement gift and Doug azz as a welcoming gift.:bump: :bump:

I never said there were problems in Grambling. The thing that ticks me off is SU folk getting on here like GSU is going to be shut down by Dr. Kyle and SU is going to be shining like a star.

Worry about what goes on in your backyard and we will take care of things in ours.
 
Well we all (HBCUs) have problems and issues. I feel for all that GSU is going through. I do not want them to be closed. That school has educated too many brothers and sisters and I would hope that they survive any audit. SU has had our issues too and we still have some. This kind of ish has been going on to long at our schools. Finally folks are getting caught and exposed. Now we all need to pay attention to what is going on in our backyards. That's why I will never smack any HBCU during a time like this. Some of you GSU and SU folks keep instigating each other with all this ish. So the posts go back and forth with accusations and ridicule. I am no GSU fan, but I am an HBCU fan. I want them around so we (SU) can kick that azz in the BC and party like we all should once the game is over. Just my 2 cents.
 
Good post JR! I may take digs at things like who's "allegedly" sleeping with who and call yall Yellas, but it's all done in the name of smack.

That being said...we're still gonna kick some yella azz in the dome!

MB, you are alright me. Smack is one thing. But as long as it is in fun. I some folks on here don't mean anything by it. But there are some who do. I would be one of the first to carry a picket sign to keep GSU open if I had too. I can't let that auditor ruin tradition. LOL. We need GSU around to resume our azz kicking of yall we started in 93. Time to start another streak. Besides it aint nothing like the BC. After participating in it as a band member and now as an alum, there is nothing like the BC. So both schools have keep our houses in order to keep the other man from messing with us.

BTW MB, I hear that the Super Dome will get renovated next year and the Saints will play their games in Tiger Staduim. Any rumors swirling around BR about where the 2003 BC will be held? I wonder what Tulane going to do?

You make a great point. I don't want to see any HBCU close. We have lost to many already. Leland College and Bishop are examples of two that have already been lost.

JR, you are a class act my friend. Great post. I know things/smack can go over the top on this forum; that's to be expected,,, but it is good to see some folk who have a foundation, core beliefs, that trandscend general "smack-at-any-cost" like yourself. I think all HBCUs can be good spirited rivals but at the same time stop short of reveling in the adversity/problems of a rival institution and using that to smack another school. Ultimately, HBCUs are all pretty much in the same boat, or should I say (crab) bucket. Mugz need to squash smacking HBCUs on serious issues that transcend good spirited school rivalry and such.

You know, you are on to something there.

whoever dat newcomer was called it to a T. i thought the cat was on dope. no way Southern wins this game,, much less blow GSU out. looks like that logic was severely flawed on my part. :o
 
I told all you Gramblingnites and Southern haters that we would win the the "Grandaddy of Them All" ..... The Bayou Classic. What was that score.... SU - 48 GSU - 24. The reason that I was correct is that Grambling had not tested our secondary and also Grambling defense had not been tested against the run of underneath pass routes. A Gramblingnite that was on the sideline working the game called me after the game and told me that Doug took off his headphones after Tramon Douglas fumble the ball in the red zone and Melvin Spears had to come down out of the press box to call the plays. Another like I said earlier in a previous post Doug can't outcoach Pete after halftime, history once again proved itself. Pete - 4 - 1 or 9 - 1 and Doug - 1 - 4 in the "Granddaddy of Them All".... the Bayou Classic. Oh, I forgot to tell you Gramblingnites; my son is a member of the SU Football Team and his record is also 2 - 1. It's nothing personal we get to start the stretch now until Pete retire and long after Doug gets fired or quit.

Sorry Doug; say goodbye to MSU

Doug's humilating defeat in the Bayou Classic ended all chances he had for getting the Michigan State job.

Pete did a masterful coaching job against a young upstart. When the money's on the line go with Pete.
