Southern Vs. Famu

College Gameday

I was just sitting here watching that famous battle of 2006 between the Jukebox and the Boom. Everytime I watch those clips, I'm amazed as if though I wasn't there. Question: Can we expect the same fireworks from the Jukebox and the Marching 100 on Saturday, Sept 1 in Birmingham or IS IT JUST A SWAC THING?

As long as these people DO NOT interfere like at the 2006 Magic City Classic..

it's a SWAC thing, FAMU will not sit in a stadium that long, only SWAC battles are heated like that!

I agree i don't think FAMU will, their 5th battles are kind of boring to me. But i love them on the field. Now Ten State on the other hand, dem nigs ain't going no where, i don't even think they eat after the game. they have lil lunches in the stands that they eat during the 5th.

2006 Southern Heritage Classix 5th Quarter went over 90 mins!!!!!!

No! Nothing against against FAMU but they just don't have the agressiveness that JSU has or SU. Now NC&AT and NSU would battle like the boom box classic against SU or JSU

lol at the lunches in the stands. I am looking forward to Tn State's band, and that 5th Q will be long. They can turn the lights off and nothing will happen.

I think the FAMU vs SU battle is going to be a replay of last year's BCC vs SU battle.

You guys are talking about the 5th but JSU and SU go at it in pre-game so the real question is will FAMU get there an hour or so early to take on SU?

TNState is gonna rock Baton Rouge. I think they are the BEST band in the stands bar none. There will certainly be some good drilling going on in BR!

Yes Indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 2007 Su vs Tenn State war will be on....Sept 29?????

I'll be there for that!!!!!!!!!!

Why did I get a mental picture of them dipping into a small picnic basket on each row in the stands, between songs?....

:)

That might not be too far off. Doc White loves to "hurry up and wait". The 100 will be there early but the question is will they be in sectional circles at the busses doing warm up and tunning (especially if they do a pregame show)

FAMU Marching 100 may change this year...................
Not really. Maybe people are thinking of a size issue, but Fam is Fam. If they ended up marching a block 46 or block 406 it's not going to change. They will continue to focus on the fundimental things that they see as important and what got them to the "top".

Ultimately those who have preconcieved notions will go to this event unwilling to except anything else and will probably feel validated or justified, but if you just sit back and be entertained vs being ready to critique then you might have a good time.

Man.......screw a 5th. Im old school. All I want (and EXPECT) from these 2 OUTSTANDING programs is awesome musical arrangements, precision drills, and 2 fine halftime shows.

All this takes place during the course of the football game. I dont' need to see anymore afterwards. During the course of an entire football game (trust) I will see who the better band (that particular season) will be.

Dont expect to see a slaughter on any bands part. Both programs are simply too established in their own fame and popularity to let one another destroy themselves.

Famu will do what they do. The Jags will do the same. Those who love Famu's style will say Famu wrecked shop. Lovers of the Jukebox will boast the same.

Fans of HBCUBs (young and old) are in for a treat. Bham is a neutral spot and love both bands. Bham has seen Famu on several occasions due to VARIOUS BOTBs. SU came down during the 1st SCG against Jsu. Long overdue if you ask me.

It will be a great day for band fans. I cant wait.

If folks lived by this...ALOT of the band battles today would be alot better from the viewers stand point. But, too many folks set their own Neilson Rating before a match-up takes place. And, that's where you get the "they weren't what I expected" comments....even for bands that, actually, did well (at the game) and been doing what they do AND kick'n major arse for 40+ years.

Good post, Hunnerd...

I must say I would love to see an intense battle before and after the game, but the 100 will definitely please the crowd. This point is well conveyed.

Their music department head is a former SWAC band director at Grambling and UAPB.

No. FAMU brings a different kind of fireworks to the fray. It has made its mark by being able to execute both classics and popular music. You can be sure that they will stick to what they do best - just like the Jukes. Neither band has anything to prove to the other. And the truth of the matter is that the BD's are the only ones who assess the real W's & L's - not the bandheads, the alumni, and most certainly not the crowd.
