Sit your arse down crab. I know nobody can talk about SU band and say we don't have class. Shid we invented it. No rolling on the ground, no humping each other or looking like coons. Dancing Dolls dance with style and class without being vulgar. Not to mention no trendy hair styles, ear rings etc allowed. Mr. J aint changing that. What he is going to change is doing some of the same isht all the time and bring new stuff to the Juke. You will probably see a bigger band now. It is about to get ugly. So if you sced say you sced. LOL.

Do you think having a bigger band is wise?? I thought that Doc liked to keep the size where it is to control cost which allows the Jukebox to travel.

SU budget for travel can hold way more than what DOC was marching....
 
With the retirement of Dr. Isaac Greggs, famed director of the Southern University Marching Band, Lawrence Jackson, associate director, has been appointed to take the band?s helm effective Jan. 1 of next year.

?We think he has done an excellent job as associate director,? said Margaret Ambrose, executive vice chancellor of Southern. ?He has proven his commitment, we believe the capability is there and he came highly recommended by Dr. Greggs.?

Yes it was and he was right to do it. That man was working on his Doctorate. Most universities allow it. My homeboy is a professor at Nebraska and they pay him while he is on educational trips or in class outside of the job during work hours. My job allows me to be paid when I am in class during work hours if it benefits the job. WHich in this case it did. Hell the Assistant salaries aint even nothing to write home about anyway. SU knew that was some BS and didn't hold it against him. I think the paperwork/permission from the school was the only issue in this case anyway. Oh well. Now go worry about your band program.

He didn't have permission to do it. It was illegial and Greggs tried to cover it up. Oh well. Scandal U.

Well.....................let's put it another way.

Will a BIGGER Jukebox mess up the "vibe".

I'll give ya'll credit...................one of the thing's that's good about SU's band is getting that BIG SOUND from an "average" size band.

I just can't picture the Jukebox with 200+ people in it.
 
SU IS SIMPLY SU! AND IF THEY CATCH YOU WITH YOUR PANTS DOWN JUST GET READY FOR GOOD F***ING!! I AM A GRADUATE OF JSU AND I MARCHED TROMBONE FROM 1998 TO 1999 AND HELD THE DRUM MAJOR POSITION FROM 2000 TO 2001 AND I HAVE SEEN SU AT THE BEST AND AT THERE BETTER! A LARGER SU WILL BE EXCITING TO HEAR AND SEE AND THIS IS COMING FROM A "BOOMSMEN" WHO KNOWS NOTHING BUT KUT THROAT WHEN IT COMES TO SU VS. JSU!! BUT MY FIRST SENTENCE ABOUT CATCHING A BAND WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN CAN GO FOR ANY BAND. JUST BE ON YOUR STUFF AND GET READY TO GO TO WAR NO MATTER WHO YOUR OPPONENT WILL BE!

slow your roll on that... buses, mouths, and rooms aren't cheap as you may be figuring... Plus, none of us know how this Katrina, FEMMA, St. of LA and SU Board stuff is going to impact not only the band budget, but the university's budget. so again, slow your roll...

Mr. J is a really good man. I love his fire. I've known him since around 1982 when I was a Jr. in HS. One thing about him is he loves band; he loves good and talented students; and he loves to wax butt. I think we have settled for simply being better in recent years. We lost that killer instinct in preparation and in competition. I've seen it show signs again in the last 2 years and I think that has something to do with Doc giving Mr. J more influence in the bandroom. I saw the band cheering for the team more this year. Again, I think because Doc allowed him to have more reign over the band. Yes, the S on the chest carries a lot of weight. But, when you think like that, you end up sometimes like Mike Tyson in Japan. But, when you prepare ever week as though you have Liston, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, etc.. on the other side, you increase the image of the S. I see Mr. J continuing to bring that type of approach back to the Juke. I believe Psi has done a great job and bring that willingness and energy back to be the foundation for this "take it to the next phase baby". I'm looking forward to it, because I know if SU raises its game, other will follow and half-time will become enjoyable again.
