Naw, he's trying to say that was Heishma.

How can he say that? Graves was not the DC who recruited Heish. Hell Heis was there before Pete. LOL. Didn't Heish and E Randall graduate Glen Oaks together?

I know TBF aint talking about Heish. The only All American safeties we have had is House and J. George. Surely he aint talking about Glenn Bell.

TBF is just making up stuff.

he identified himself by name in another thread...man up...:emlaugh:

No he didn't. He said he played for Graves and that he, J.George and others would have not come to SU if it was not for Graves. He never said his name. Only name he mentioned was J. George. I assume you think it was him. We assumed he meant he along with George and others came to SU.

And what's to man up about? He respects Graves as a coach and mentor. I can respect that since he played for the man. That don't change the opinion I have about what we used to see on the sidelines when the defense had the ball. I wish Graves well. But if he had no control of what was going on with his defense then that just verifies it was time for Pete to go.

Dude is defending his coach much like us Jukes who marched for the black man have done. Aint nothing wrong with that. But just like we can't change outside opinions of Doc....neither can those who played for Graves.

What thread.

His post sounds like it came from a press clipping......Something regurgitated but has some merit. I'm not saying that Pete's assistance were the dimmest bulbs in the neighborhood, but I can see how you came to your query! :emlaugh:

Man yall are cold....do it some more LOL:flippy:

What were the consequences of not passing under pete? He may have stressed it but the APR #s did not show it.

I know lots of guys who played for Pete early on...they were simply better student athletes to begin with in comparison to the latter years when Coach Richardson took a chance on a large number of props who didn't work out and impacted his APR in latter years. I think he consistently stressed academics, but those he stressed it to in the latter years either weren't as well prepared or simply didn't put forth the effort like the kids did early in his tenure. His early year players graduated and lots of them got their graduate degrees and or law degrees.

for whatever reason pete gave up on what made him sucessful or got content in his job and that was both his downfall and the downfall of his program

Pete didn't give up...other programs began to compete and caught up coupled with the economy which hindered SU from trying to separate themselves..you see the deal with Spivey and Cador's staffs...

Stump signed 36...you think they're all eligible also?

From what I understand 34 of them are. :D

But why did folks catch up? And Cador was still right in the mix. Aint like the baseball team fell apart. He got a brief run of competition. No different than any other sports program in the country. Pete didn't go out and solicit other resources, bottom line. Cador does what he has too. If he could have coached football, I bet you would have seen all the old SU alums who went on to the NFL and money hanging around. Cador would have had camps with Aeneas Williams, Mel Blount, Harold Carmichael and those guys NFL friends like he does with his MLB connections. Give Cador the football budget and if he was a football coach he would have been in the SCG since 04.

TBF, you can talk all this catch up with stuff all you want. It boils down to getting off your arse and doing more than your counterparts. Aint like Frazier got some big money or new facilities to work with. He took those 63 schollies and got off his arse and went out and worked it. He hired a good staff and kept them together. He had a vision. You could have swapped Frazier's staff and Pete's staff the last few years and SU would have beaten the isht out of PV and probably everybody else. Yeah folks caught up with us. Because our coaching staff allowed it.

True. I think Pete still stressed academics. But like you said some of the kids he brought in were not focused or equipped to succeed. He still had some academic stars like Vince Lands and Allen Baugh recently. But you are right, those old SU teams sure did produce a bunch of Lawyers. LOL. Richard and that crew was some guys as well. They may have been the last of that group who really got the meaning of being a student athlete.

The props he took did take its toll. Once he lost Fred Kaiss and Vantz Singletary as lead recruiters that seemed to hurt the type of kids coming into the program.

different types of kids now....I remember sitting in class and hearing Marcus Jacoby brag on props and how they were going to impact him....Doug and Spears made a living off of props.....it's a high risk, high reward system which turned into risks for Pete at the end....

but folks make it seem the program fell apart...the man was 1 game short of the SCG in 2008 and improved programs across the board in the West didn't make it any better...

the old days, you can lose to a Jackson, beat Grambling / vie versa and the rest and everyone is happy...as long as you didn't suffer a Texas loss..

APR wasn't an issue during that time...also, you have to give Doug and Spears their props (no pun intended) for keeping tabs on those guys in terms of them attending class and attending study hall. Although we had a large number of those kids to never hit the field, those who made it past the first year were often red-shirted that first year which allowed most of them to graduate. Those who graduated, actually got the prop year back which worked out well.

You must have a lot of mid-year transfers. I don't think you can bring in more than 25 in any given class.

FCS schools have 63 scholarships to be distributed, and up to 30 incoming players each year can be given aid.

FCS schools are allowed to divide their 63 scholarships among no more than 85 individual players. Scholarships at FCS schools can be full or partial rides.

the vast majority of them are and will be eligible, by the way apparently Cador does just fine in this conference with what he has; however he will soon get what he needs to move his team to the next level. i will also add, it does not say much for pvu and the other schools on this conference that dispite all of the problems with money at s.u. (that you and others like to talk about so much) combined with how great things are at pvu and jsu gsu and everywhere else; s.u. is still able to be in the thick of the conference championship race for most sports; so the question should be what will the conference be like when s.u.'s money problems has eased?

your budget is $6.9 million..you should be in the thick :emlaugh:

numbers suggest the bigger the budget the better the sports....right?
