Southern University asks Stump Mitchell to resign

Re: It's offical

And can we not spend the reminder of the football season talking about these fantasy high dollars ass coaches that will never come to the SWAC for your measly $205 - $225...I mean really spare us this bull and just go ahead and call LC Cole, Benedict Cole, Melvin Spears and what have you and get it out of the way:(

Re: It's offical

It goes deeper than that. Remember TC wanted Doug as Coach. Certain powers that be rallied enough folks to stop him. Hence Stump getting in the door as the alternative after Doug withdrew his name and that left Heish Northern, Darryl Asberry and Stump as the finalists. Asberry had the best coaching resume of the three.

I hear exactly what you are saying, but TC and others stood at odds with each other. Since TC was the board's chair at the time, he wasn't going to let them hire Asberry and they weren't going to let TC hire Doug, so TC pulled a ninja move by letting Lafleur hire Stump. It was like watching a remake of the 1969 movie Putney Swope, which basically says, if I can't be the HNIC then no one will.

Southern's administration needs to establish a three step process in search of our next coach, with the AD being the person in-charge of the search.

1. Require all candidates to come in and take a basic IQ test to determine who can think outside the box. This should eliminate all those individuals who has a football resume, but no coaching skills.

2. Require remaining candidates to take a basic coaching test to determine their ability to recruit and to call plays.

3. Select the top five (5) candidates for a face to face interview to determine who truly has the ability to think on their feet.

Now what alternate reality are you in that makes you think ANY SWAC school would do anything this technical when the recycling program *cough *cough has worked so well so all of us :noidea:

Broussard ain't calling them clowns. Lol. Plenty of coaches will take that kind of money. Look at Jenkins leaving Rutgers as an assistant to go to BCU. You just got to look for the right fit.

Have you really checked out how our new AD works? He ain't playing. Dude is sharp.

Re: It's offical

I think this is the right decision. I had finally come to the conclusion that Stump was not a coach who could win. I just don't think he has what it takes. And I appreciate the quick and decisiveness ot Dr. Broussard and the Chancellor. Now I think we should double the salary for head football coach and hire the best person available, regardless of his skin color.

Doubling the salary would mean $400K. That's a little high for a coach on the D1-AA level. I was thinking more like $275-$300k, which should spark some interest. Who knows, we might snatch a successful coach from the UL System and I'm not talking about Doug. The UL System has a cap on their coach's salary, which is why Doug went to court to fight for the amount Grambling promised him.

You really need to talk to your alums BB. Hell, half if them posting on here have said it. He may not be worried because he got a nest egg and TU would probably take him back if you fire him. But he got to win and you know that is the bottom line.

JR, every coach has to win (well except AJ). Comegy isnt worried about the rest of these teams. The show begins this weekend.

That's just it, it is about time for SWAC schools to start thinking outside the box. Like someone said on here a while back, others are playing chess now while we are still playing checkers.

Re: It's offical

Folks taking shots, but look at this way...SU did the whole entire SWAC a favor by making this decision, ADs and Presidents from other Swac schools knows a bad SU team is no good for the SWAC, some folks talk the mesh but in all reality SU is the only team in the SWAC that travels better than "any school in football", A school that can easily bring 15,000 fans on the road, alot of teams in the SWAC still depend on a good turnout from the Nation for their home game. Let's not act how SU is carrying this conference. Lets not act cray, we see the impact when teams host SU as their home game still with a weak team, but still keeping Stump on the sideline not only would have hurt us but would have hurt other schools in the conference as well lol...Lets not quickly forget who really puts money into the conference lol

Folks are already asking if the Nation is coming to Memorial lol... Lets not act like this decision didn't help "ALL" the teams in the conference and also the conference as a whole

Broussard is doing a great job and they are actually letting him do his job. Y'all going to love what y'all see at homecoming.

Stop it BB. You know better. It ain't anyone wanting you to be bad as any other team. It is just the business. Comegy has to at least get to the SCG this year to keep the dogs off him. He can't lose to TxSU or SU. He has to finally beat Gram especially if they are down this year. And the Alcorn game for sure. If one of them Bama schools get to the SCG again while yall sit at home. He will have some explaining to do. Nothing crab n a barrel about that at all.

You shole is right JR. A lottttt of explainin.
