Southern Coaching Semi-Finalist

Re: Southern Finalist...

Doesn't matter - he's going to want a raise if he comes to SU. Remember Comegy making less to be the coach and AD at Tuskegee than he did just to be the coach here.

But at least Comegy was the AD. So you can understand him being paid like that. WS State is probably telling Maynor they can't afford to pay him any more than that themselves. LOL. So he is going to have to make a move somewhere.

Re: Southern Finalist...

Jenkins/Maynor are probably using SU to increase their salaries, especially Jenkins.
Odums did okay with Stumps staff and the situation he found.
Dooley is probably a darkhouse and would be a surprise.
Jabbar is a reminder of Otis Washington, good high school but questionable on the collegiate level.
Reminder, SU ain't going to being no outstanding salary. financial problems still exist.
Let's see if Broussard can do for football, what the acting AD did for basketball.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Southern University athletic director William Broussard said he views Bethune-Cookman's Brian Jenkins as more than a football coach and is “certainly interested'' in him as a candidate for the Jaguars' coaching position.

“He's more than a football coach,'' Broussard said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “He has the chance to be the kind of transformative leader that a lot of HBCU chancellors and presidents talk about.''

Broussard announced Monday on Southern's athletic website -- gojagsports.com -- that Jenkins is one of six semifinalists to be the next football coach at the Southwestern Athletic Conference school in Baton Rouge, La.

B-CU athletic director Lynn Thompson said in a statement Tuesday that he hopes the Wildcats' third-year coach remains with the Wildcats.

On a day when Bethune-Cookman football coach Brian Jenkins won a regional coach of the year award, Southern University said he is one of six semifinalists to be the next head coach at the Baton Rouge, La., school.

But B-CU athletic director Lynn Thompson said Monday night that Southern has yet to contact the Wildcats to ask permission to interview the third-year coach.

"(Jenkins) got a call last week from Southern, and he instructed them that they had to contact me,'' Thompson said. "And I haven't heard from Southern.''

Does seem like he is using SU to put a little pressure on BCU for a little raise....Hopefully I'm wrong

Well any good coach will have schools in a bidding war once the school that he works for hear about it if they want to keep him, it's not unique to coaches SU try to hire.
Instead of being negative and looking as him using SU why not see it as SU really trying to do what it takes to get a quality coach?

Would you rather they go after somebody no one wants?

I hope he is not using this to get money out of Bethune Cookman. I wan to see this guy coaching in the SWAC. I think with his experiences there are some things he can aid to change in the SWAC.

Its called Paying attention to Detail.....I talk to our AD alot Via FB and Twitter...and i bump into him here and there at some games.... And he seems Serious about making this a winning Program and he's a legit guy......Soooo What i took from the Story was

That right there just don't seem like our AD not to follow guidline.....Then I ran across this

Jenkins could not be reached for comment Monday night

Not Saying anything negative on SU's end....but something fishy with either Jenkins or BCU

we've had 2 coaches hide their name.....that was the smart thing to do....keeps down Conflict

Well what I get out of this is that not only don't you know much about Jenkins but you don't know much about the usual process.

There are no rules saying that he has to contact his AD and a AD denying that he's been in contact with is nothing new and he doesn't have to explain it to anyone.

Again the world won't end if he is, Doc will just simply hired somebody else.

M-9 section was a bunch of rowdy upperclassmen band members that wasn't in the pep band. M-9 is the section directly behind the opposing team bench. Throughout the whole game, they would heckle the sh!t out of other teams players and coaches. They used to talk about players jacked up hair cuts to the coaches funky suits. I bet Ben Jobe and former Jag basketball players appreciated that crew. Some of them fools would come to the basketball game with bed sheets tied around their necks as bat man with capes. Southern used to average at least 4,000 to 5,000 a game in attendance and when they played Grambling, it was a packed house. And lets not forget about the New Orleans crew that would sit up in the metal bleachers just to make that annoying beating sound during the entire game. I used to go to to my room and go to bed after a game and I can still hear that ringing sound in my ears. That sh!t them fools from New Orleans did used to piss me the muck off.

Thompson said after a B-CU basketball game Monday night that he had not heard from Southern asking permission to talk to Jenkins. Broussard said Tuesday that he was “shocked that (Thompson) said that.''

"I sent an email to Mr. Thompson (Tuesday) morning,'' Broussard said.

“I left a voicemail on Nov. 19 on his (office) number. I don't know him personally, I got the number off their website."

Broussard said he tried to track down phone records Tuesday morning to prove that he made the call, but he was unsuccessful.

“It isn't required. It's not unlawful to not contact an athletic director. But it is a protocol that you would reach out to an athletic director,'' Broussard said. “I hope this is a mix up and the voicemail went unchecked.''

BCU AD knows they can't outbid SU. His comments were similar when Bama St was taking their baseball coach.

They use to steal spoons from the cafe, and beat on the metal bleachers the entire game. It use to add to the atmosphere . I use to love it.

Of course they are man. You see that with all these coaching hires. Folks denying stuff until the hire happens. LOL. Nothing new about this. Broussard is actually being upfront about it and did the right then to contact Jenkins boss first. Some folks even at the FBS level don't do that. They have boosters and such make contact.

As for any of these coaches using our job as leverage. Doesn't every coach do that? If Texas comes after Nick Saban with an offer. Don't think he will not parlay that into some leverage at Bama. Look at Les Miles. Dude has someone drop a rumor about him every so often to leverage extensions at LSU. Twice with Michigan and just now with Arkansas. He knew he was going no where. It is a business. We have to be prepared to move in a different direction if we offer someone and they get it matched by their current school. No different than any school when trying to pry away a hot candidate.
