I really hate to do this, but the truth must me told. October 16, 2004 was a sad day for the Sounds of Dy ?no-mite. I was even shamed for them. Booed off the field for our Homecoming and a televised game at that. This game means a lot as far as alumni support and future band recruits. Sam may tell members what happens don?t matter and don?t worry about what people have to say, well he better worry because in order for his band program to survive the program has to have future students.
Some alumni and current student my ask why am I saying this. Well If I don?t nobody will care enough to do anything about it or even speak up for what they know to be true. I took up for them with Grambling and I didn?t say anything when they said small Howard had more power, but Saturday?s event hurt my heart. Don?t misunderstand the fact that I have much love for my old band. I have family marching in SOD, and I know they were cut deep Saturday as well.
I?m not placing blame on just the band members. I hold Fat Sam highly responsible and his assistant, whose name I can not speak because he has not earned that RESPECT so I will just call him the Dirty Do Boy (D2B). Oh, by the way (D2B) I hated your arrangement of In The Stone ,Chambers? version is much better. Mr. Chambers listen to the song Earth, Wind & Fire wrote, not the movie Drum Line. As I understand it the (D2B) is one of the reason why Old Head SOD composers music is not played. The only thing (D2B) is assisting in is running SOD into the ground and Fat Sam sitting on his a** allowing it to happen.
Some have said that Griff has just gotten to old. That?s a lie because the Fat F#&ker still has power over his band and the RESPECT of the Old Head SOD members. Age has nothing to do with it his a** has just got lazy.
Now, I need to talk about the RATS( Run And Tell S#!t) within the band. Oh, RATS have been in the band for years, but now it has just got outrageous. RATS, sit their a**es in the band office all day telling everything little thing that goes on with other band members and do his dirty work. Their lips are glued to Griff?s a** all day every day, but what they fail to understand is that once they graduate, or flunk out ( because they are not going to class due to the fact they are in the band office all day) he drops their tale like a bad habit and move on to his new set of RATS.
For those of you who will say pfunk is wrong for saying that pfunk didn?t need to put the band business out like that. Kiss my a** . You?re just mad because you?re one of the RATS. People who know I?m tell the truth will support me they just don?t want to say it to hurt others feeling. Well feeling have we out the door and truth has walked in. Some will even say I?m haten, it?s only haten if it?s not true.
I would never hate on SOD I put too much time and afford and love marching in that band to hate. I have family in that band. We used to come to the games and just be like I can?t wait till I graduate high school so I can march. When I marched my family would come and see me and say the same thing. Now that they are in the band all they can say is it?s not the same. No love, no heart, no respect for the music, nothing. I hate that they can?t even experience just a small sample of what I experienced, because toward end of my marching career it started going bad. I?m glad I walked before it got to this point. If I didn?t think my family would suffer I would write a letter to the Alumni Band and Mr. Sam, but I don?t want my family to suffer. Don?t think my family wouldn?t suffer from my options because Fat Sam and RATS would make sure they did.
Back to Saturday. I know that because it was Homecoming and TSU showed up that it was not enough time to do some big dramatic show, but damn they could have did something better than what they did do. Knowing that the Assist Band Director of TSU is a graduate from Alcorn and it?s bad blood between him and Griff I would have expected SOD to go straight club on the field. Port Gibson could have done a better job than what they did. If the dance committee is fresh out of ideas then hit PG High or NTZ High they will be happy to help with fresh and new ideas. But, no Sam is trying to keep the band so G rated it?s a shame. And, give up the 3 white chicks.(3WC) Now, I love white people. I can?t hate on what?s a part of me and in my family, but at lest they have soul. If you ?re going to put a white girl in front the band then 1. Make sure she can dance, 2. They have a shape, and 3. Have some looks. The Golden Girls have had to change their style of dance to fit these girl and the 2 from a few years ago. Give it up the White Golden Girl from the 1980?s is gone and will not be replaced. I don?t know what to call that s#!t you got now. They say one bad apple spoils the bunch well what does 3 do.

Well, the reason why they don?t have heart is because if anybody rise up with different ideas or try to put his or her section back on top with out the say so and approval of Fat Sam then they get shut down or put out. If you don?t follow Griffin?s Law then you got to go. He has his RATS in place to let him know when any section is sick of the Same Old S#!t and try to do their own thing they see the door quick fast and in a hurry. If they don?t get the boot that year then next year they will not be allow to step foot in the Fine Arts Building, and the people who got put out know what I?m talking about. Lets be real. People are in school to learn and better them self. They can?t afford to lose their scholarship, what little they do have.
I guess (D2B) is just waiting for next week when Southern come down to show off his skill of running SOD into the ground.
Samuel S. Griffin you need to take control of your band and stop worrying what your classmates and other old a** people of so call power think. You need to listen to your band members, not the RATS, and other student on campus to open the door for new ideas and concepts. If you don?t it?s only going to get worse.
