Some Interesting Hotel Information About The Bayou Classic

The younger generation is like that, especially if the tickets are high and they have already bought a stepshow ticket. They need to get $5-10 off or something with those stepshow ticket stubs, etc.. The CIAA would DIE a sudden death if they had to depend on the young folks. All they do is go there to party. The old folks here in Philly are OUT during CIAA weekend and they have their tickets in hand NOW. The young folks just trying to get a room and find out where the party at.

Also, NBC starting the game so early is also unattractive to young people. I sent JSUs administration an email with CCC attendance. Anytime our game starts at 1 PM, we hover around 30-35K. If the game starts at 3 or 4PM, you get an extra 15K people in there! In a city like New Orleans, it has to be worse than it is in jackson becasue you can party ALL night in New Orleans. I know people are not trying to be up by 10 or 11 to get cleaned up, dressed, and eat before battling traffic to get to a 1 PM game.

I agree!

The reason you and others fail to realize is we are true rivalries!! We sell out baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, track, tennis, soccer, no matter what it it when we play Bama St or vice versa. Not just one sport against each other.
LOL.. Cee I ain't mad at ya'll and I hope the MCC continues to grow. It's good for the SWAC but you know (without smacking) that I am telling the truth. Ya'll probably have every hotel in Bham already booked and if both teams are 2-6 going into the game, YALL STILL GOING JUST TO BE GOING . SU and GSU alums prob have rooms in New Orleans reserved but if Stump or Doug starts out at 2-5, they are cancelling those rooms.

I wish it wasn't like that but I think that me, you and the rest of the readership know that I am telling the truth. The only thing that is going to pack the Superdome is two quality teams on the field. All of that other "brainstorming" is a waste of time. We have seen the trends and we know what gets the fans blood pumping.

You know, I started to write this big, deep, intellectual response to TP's post, then I realized it was Tigerpride . . . . so, nevermind.

Sorry but TP just about nailed it. You can attempt an intellectual post if you want but most people that post in this forum know that your post is nothing more than an awful attempt to get mentioned in the same breath of the Crown Jewel of BCF, the BC. Every time the words Bayou Classic is discussed, your Pavlov post is boringly predictable. :smh:  :emlaugh:

You know what I . . . . oh nevermind, its JROCK.

Carry on.

CEE, you are correct and I agree with you there but again, you only care about each other and it shows and that makes it EASY on your fan base.

I honestly didn't try to turn the mood of this thread so I won't say anything else.

Deuce, if you think I said anything just to negative, I apologize. I think what I said was the simple truth. People often try to offer suggestions but those suggestions won't work and they have seen that. If JSU fans were sitting here worried about when the Alcorn game was, we would sell out every year. But Alcorn is about 4th or 5th on the list this year behind TNState, SU, Homecoming vs Valley and to some people (not me :vomit:) MS State. If Alcorn is good and moves their game back to Jackson, we could potentially have 5 games of 40K+ this year. Neither Alabama school fans have to worry about that. That was my only point but ain't nobody trying to go see 2-8 Alcorn. If they wanna show up at 8-2, bring out the National Guard because we gonna pack that mug!

But again, I am done in this topic. I don't want Kenn to get mad at me.

thats a good thing

Bottom line, until SU starts winning on a consistent basis, there will be low attendance numbers for the classic. Come on y'all, this ain't rocket science.... Besides, the great city of New Orleans doesn't need a BC or any other big game for that matter, to attract tourists to the city and book up the hotels. Everyone loves visiting/partying in New Orleans.

Hell, I was just there this past weekend and it looked like BC or Mardi Gras time from all the folks that were in that city just hanging out and partying. A lot of folks come to the city but could care less about attending the game. It's a holiday w/e, so that alone will increase numbers.

I go there OFTEN....and yes Southern has to have a winning team for it to be successful. Though it would be even better when GSU had a winning team as well. That statement in bold is the truth. As I stated in an earlier post I but tickets but don't go to the game. I just like being there and having a good time.

TV broadcast has hurt this game. Watching the game in your hotel room instead of dropping $$$ to attend the game is a no brainier. Come on guys, this is not rocket science.

This is true to a certain extent.. but I still think that applies when people don't want to PAY to see a sorry team. The BC has has 55 to 60K in attendance as recently as 5 years ago so TV is not the total blame. Right now, to me, the MAIN culprit is the loss of the SU fans due to the sad state of their football team. Let Stump get that team to 7 or 8 wins before the BC and the attendance will hit 50K+ with ease.

The game averaged 65,000-70,000 for years pre-Katrina while being on TV every year.

Apparently your audience and demographic have changed since Katrina. The younger generation can party all night, sleep in, wake up and watch the game. The game ticket money can be spent on liquor and other fun things. Judging from the hotel occupancy rate, people are flocking to Nawlin, but not going to the game. The game broadcast should be taped delayed in LA.

JSU and TN ST have made changes to their classic in Memphis relating to people partying and not buying game tickets to attend the game.

MCC planners are now forcing those renting tailgating spaces to buy two game tickets whether they go into the game or not.

My point is we have to make changes to stay relevant.

I'm of the opinion that there may be something to this. How many of your BR area Jags say in New Orleans for the BC weekend? I'm guessing that a number of you go to the game and simply make the drive back to BR afterwards.

Younger folks stay, most old heads go home. The youngsters stay out all night and the 1pm game start is tough. Wish he game was a 3pm start like it use to be.

southern winning is the key... If southern is winning it will be packed.. Grambling just dont come out.. bottom line...last year it might have been more people at the battle of the Bands then the Game. The parade was the biggest event of the weekend, and really should be held on Friday at 2pm or 3pm

On Saturday I had a chance to meet with a representative from the New Orleans Convention Company Inc. (NOCCI), the company that manages the Bayou Classic. The representative told me that New Orleans area hotels reported an occupancy rate of 93 percent for last year’s Bayou Classic.

I am not an expert by any means in the area of hotel and restaurant management, but a 93 percent hotel occupancy rate is excellent. I mentioned this because some have argued that if some hotels would drop their rates, it could entice more people to visit New Orleans and potentially increase game day attendance. However, if we apply the basic economic rules of supply and demand it’s not surprising that area hotels refuse to drop their rates when they can get a 93 percent occupancy rate.

With this information mind, does this change your view about the BC? Could it be that people are going to New Orleans for the weekend, but simply refuse to go to the football game?

Thoughts?

easy here,

hey kenn.....That's very disturbing to me.....93% occupacy but less than 20k at the game......Must be a convention in town.....cuz they aint at the game....

easy here,

You are so right but SU has shot them selves in the foot with POOR decisions on administrators and coaches......plus the BC needs a new marketing strategy that would eventually get folk down there......A parade aint going to do it alone.....SU..GSU...SWAC OFFICE.....need to come together and really generate ideas to sell to cities that would get people down to NO.....
