Did the SWAC office even discuss levying fines for schools who elect to do so?
This! Blame the SWAC Presidents, not Alcorn and Texas Southern, for not putting teeth in the 7 game mandate!

But with the ACC swelling to 14 members and deciding to continue with an eight-game league schedule, some traditional rivals will play each other far less frequently than they would like. That prompted discussion amongst athletics directors at last spring's conference meetings about the possibility of ACC teams scheduling each other for non-conference games.
North Carolina, for instance, is scheduled to play Wake Forest as a conference game in 2015 but not again until 2022.
The ACC schedule rotation is currently set through 2024.
"This is a unique opportunity to play a regional rival in years that fall outside the normal conference rotation," UNC athletics director Bubba Cunningham said in a release. "We have a long history with Wake Forest that has historical value and will generate interest within our fans."
In other words, instead of UNC and Wake Forest spending upwards of $1 million to fill a non-conference date with someone like Louisiana-Monroe or North Texas, they will play a more cost-effective game against a real rival, which will generate more fan interest and ticket sales.
So it will be okay if SU-JSU or GSU-Alcorn do it? Just not for TSU-Alcorn, etc? It's a little bit different. We're talking about rivalry games.
now that I have a little more insight I have even more confidence that C Mac philosophy is the right way to go. Time will tell. Now let enjoy this women BBall victory.
This will be the 3rd game played at the cotton bowl during state fair time, correct?
That would be SU vs TSUThis will be the 3rd game played at the cotton bowl during state fair time, correct?
Clearly you don't fully understand how rankings work. Any time schools are ranked it brings up their power rating along with the conference.
Let's say Grambling , JSU , PV and Southern were all ranked in the top 25 fcs school and out of the four two were either ranked in the top ten or one in the top ten and one in the top 15..
That would push the conference power ratings between 20th and 15th. While Southern or Grambling wouldn’t be eligible to participate in the fcs playoffs JSU/PV would more than likely get an at-large-bid .
The example I just gave isn't a make believe scenario it's what happen every year jsu or Alcorn went to the playoffs because we had no automatic bid.
Again if that's all YOU'RE looking forward too and are happy with your football team not having an opportunity outside of the SCG it's cool, but for an AD as smart as McClelland not to understand the effect his action has on the rest of the conference would simply show he's being selfish and even more of a reason I'm not buying what y'all are claiming his reason are not to mention you're essentially making the Mike Haywood hire a waste .

I understand what you are saying but from a business standpoint pushing to get into the FCS playoffs (for many of our schools) is not practical. Most of our schools are hurting for money and the FCS playoffs would only suck money out of our programs. The Celebration Bowl is a much more practical goal (financially) for our conference. I am looking at this purely from a money perspective. Bragging rights mean nothing to me....being able to pay the bills does.
That would be SU vs TSU
@Herbert77060
You're not pushing to get into the playoffs you're pushing to get to the Celebration Bowl but being prepared to give the kids another form of reward for all their hard work is case they fall short of their goal instead of being totally disappointed .
I am almost certain if we got an at-large bid we'd probably take it but the goal is to make money.....not lose money.
Our ambition is the SWAC Championship game and the Celebration Bowl; our Plan B would of course be the FCS playoffs.
So TSU is playing Alcorn in a game that not going to count in the conf. standing. Okay. So what?
Come on folks. Lighten up!! DAMN!!!!
I am almost certain if we got an at-large bid we'd probably take it but the goal is to make money.....not lose money.
We will handle OUR business......Trust me on that one.I guess you were not around the first time the Swac tried this experiment. It was a total failure and they then went to the 9 game format. Now we are back to square 1 and it's doing the same thing all over again.
So you're going to make money at BBVA playing Alcorn?
2015 - 2145
2013 - 4582
2011 - 2735 (Delmar)
Okay....since perception seems to be paramount here, what will be the perception when you schedule a SHSU or NoDakotaSt or any FCS school that could raise power numbers and get kicked to sleep by all of them? What then?I'm right there with both of you guys, the SCG and CB are the ultimate goal. And it should be, but all we are saying is with the negative perception the NCAA FCS folks have of the SWAC when selection time comes around, and if for some chance TSU doesn't make it to the SCG, but warrants playoff consideration, this action could be held against you. That's all we are saying.

I expected that retort....What happened in Arizona is the same thing that happened when we jumped out to a 28-7 lead against Grambling. Fobbs said let's put an end to this foolishness and they did. Arizona said the same thing....and they did.If that is the case, and you schedule those teams, that why you play the game. You don't know what the hell might happen. You may not get kicked to sleep.
Nobody expected Grambling to do what it did against Arizona, and despite the loss, the team's profile was elevated by national media outlets.
BUT, you definitely ain't (yes, I said "ain't") doing yourselves any favors by scheduling Alcorn.
Sooooooooo @Kenn Rashad , how do you feel about Gram AD now that you are playing JSU in a non conference game?
I mean you spoke so highly as if Gram didn't have to do this type of scheduling this year. You made it seem as if Alcorn and TXSU did something NOBODY else would do this year. But low and damn behold, your school is doing the same thing.
Well, first, it wasn't "Gram's AD" who scheduled the game.
My position on this matter is well documented. Don't let my affiliation to Grambling fool you. The criticism I had for Alcorn and TSU for scheduling each other is no different than that I have of GSU and J-State. I called it "ass-backwards" then. I'm calling it "ass-backwards" now.
