SMH at Alcorn State and Texas Southern ADs

Just for the sake of argument. And I ask this respectfully because I like Charles Mac.

* Our AD does not believe in the seven game mandate. He's tried it before and it didn't work.
OK, he doesn't like it, but what about it didn't work the last time?

* We can not schedule FBS programs until 2018 due to NCAA restrictions on our program.
I don't think the issue is about scheduling FBS teams as much as it simply is about scheduling another FCS team. Alcorn was the best TSU could do?

* Our out of conference games are complete up to 2021 with the exception of 3 games we are working to complete now.
And Alcorn was the best TSU could do?

* Our goal is to win a SWAC and Celebration Bowl Championship. Our goal is NOT to compete in the NCAA FCS playoffs. The SWAC is winless in them. Furthermore, NC A&T made it public they preferred the Celebration Bowl over the playoffs.
As far as the SWAC goes, the SCG and CB are the ultimate goal of all 10 teams, but, if, for some reason, TSU has a stellar year that doesn't quite allow your team to make it to the SCG, are we to believe Charles would turn down the chance at competing in the playoffs IF the opportunity presented itself?

* We have HBU, Kennesaw State and Incarnate Word coming up as our non-conference schedule.
And TSU couldn't find anyone else other than Alcorn State?

Conference teams were scheduling each other as OOC games and then complaining that they had a better conference record is why it didn't work. This is the swac office problem. They knew the history, they knew some of these AD's would choose the easy way out and they didn't do anything to discourage this.

If they don't want to schedule DII teams, but that also should mean they don't want to play fbs teams, as Tx So is a lower division than their fbs opponent. One a year is fine for the home schedule, but that probably should be the limit for fbs teams on a swac schedule as well.

I just don't understand why the league doesn't set schedule's for 5 years out (randomize) and then the schools just make their OOC games...they have software that can do that in a day. And OOC games are not that hard.

The conference has a master schedule and each school has it. They know who they play what year and when. Some of the games do get re-scheduled by request to accomadate schools for ooc games.

Just got a call about this thread so let me respond:

* We will no longer play Div. II or NAIA programs. We are beyond those type of games like Virginia Lynchburg. Our schedule is built to benefit Texas Southern.

Just because he don't believe in the 7 game mandate doesn't mean he can make up his own rules.
There are 125 FCS programs out there, you gonna tell me they can't get 4 of them to play besides the other 9 that are in our conference.

According to a couple of people that I have spoken with, Duer Sharp (supposedly) advised the member schools NOT to schedule other conference schools as non-conference games, but couldn't make them.

I don't agree with playing Alcorn either, but what about the cost factor of playing a school outside of the Southland Conference. All MEAC schools are to far.

What type of restrictions y the ncaa doesn't allow you to schedule different division level teams other then a club team?

Did the SWAC office even discuss levying fines for schools who elect to do so?

Dude you don't get a check for playing another fcs school that's what the return game is for.

Not true.

Sam is paying over $100k to buy Richmond to come to Bowers and also giving TSU/PVAMU $150k to play Sam as part of home and home to make sure they honor the deal.

And ask MVSU how much it gets from NDSU. FCS schools can buy other FCS

And Northwestern State paid us 50k in 2013 to play them so what's you're point? Because that happen Alcorn is going to pay sTu $100 to play them or that paying other schools the play and giving them a return visit is the norm?

You made a blanket statement.

It is rapidly becoming similar to FBS as the monies involved and the gap grows. The power schools are buying other FCS games.

Though like FBS, even within a P5 league - there can be significant disparity. Florida is to Montana what Kentucky is to Northern Colorado.

If it is played in Chicago, LA, Etc. Someone will write a check. Think long range & you might approach my wave length.

C Mac would not do this w/o a deal in place.

Different thought processes regarding how the pay day will manifest itself.

Nah I made a generalization that any that any rational thinking adult looking to have an honest conversation and not engage in childish semantics in an attempt to give a false perception understand to be the rule of norm and not the exception.

Nahhhhh you don't say.

We paid Alcorn when we played them and they weren't on our Swac schedule. Northwestern paid SU and paid for the bands travel when we had a home and home with them.
