RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks selected LSU cornerback Tharold Simon in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft, and normally, that wouldn't merit a blip on the radar. But it did in this case, because Simon was arrested last Thursday in his hometown of Eunice, La., for public intimidation, resisting an officer and unnecessary noise violation. In addition, according to local police, Simon threatened an officer. There were plans in Eunice to have a "Tharold Simon Day," and according to Mayor Rusty Moody, the ceremony would go on.

"In the United States, our justice system says everyone is innocent until proven guilty," Moody said.

Simon's agent, Peter Shaffer, disputed the allegations, and said that he's considering legal action against those involved.

During a phone interview with Seattle reporters after the pick, Simon was asked to recall his version of the details. And, well, the floodgates opened.

"It's my fault. I mean, I shouldn't have been parked on the side of the road. But I was just chillin' in my grandmother's house. And my car was parked on the side of the road by my grandmother's house. And I seen a car pull up, and it looked like a cop car.

"So I went out there. And when I went out there, he told me to move the car. And then I moved the car. And when I turned the car on, the music was up. And so when I pulled up in the driveway, he told me to give him my license. And I gave him my license.

"And then I just sat on my car. He was running my license through. He called another cop to bring him a ticket book, because I guess he was going to write me a ticket. And one of my friends had come to congratulate me on the draft that was going on and stuff. And he told my friend to move around. And then I had got out the car and I was like, 'Man, you trippin' for nothing. I mean, there's nothing serious really going on around here.'

"And I guess he said my pants was low. So he was like 'Pick your pants up before I take you to jail.' And I picked my pants up. And then he just grabbed me and said, 'You know what, matter of fact, put your hands behind your back.'"

"I never ran. I never flinched or moved or nothing. I'm a humble guy. I'm embarrassed about what happened. It shouldn't have happened. But like I said, everything happens for a reason. And right now my focus is to get up to Seattle and go compete

Just by reading Simon's side of the story in this article, I can see some wrong on both sides, but I'm sure the cop has his side. And somewhere in the middle, I'm sure there is the truth.

This man was in his grandma's house chillin was probably eating some homemade cracklins and boudin and this clown cop wants to be a hero. He knew that was Simon's car from the jump. Some of these cops have issues with young black folks driving cars better than them. That mess happened to me in New Orleans years ago. Clown pulled me over and asked me why I'm driving a car better than his. I said because my dad city councilman such and such got it for me. That shat went downhill from there for ole dude.

I'm not going to bash the cop until I hear his side of the story. I'm sure Simon will say whatever to make himself look like the victim. Do you remember the episode of A Different World when Ron and Dewayne got into a fight with some White boys for spray painting the letters "NI" on Ron's car? Although the White boys were completely wrong, each one of them had their side of the story.

I appreciate that A3, but there's no situation as far as I'm concerned. And again, as it was originally posted in The Advocate, Tharold Simon did move his car when the police asked him to. And Simon did take ownership for his behavior because the Eunice police officer reported that he (Simon) apologized for being rude. Simon originally said he was showing off in front of his friends; it was in the officer's report and also reported by Simon's agent.


From what you posted, it appears that Simon did everything the officer told him to do. The Advocate reported that Simon didn't comply with turning his music down and that he resisted arrest by not putting his hands behind his back. To me, it look's like Simon was a victim of racial profiling by a cop who was jealous of this Black young man's celebrity status and fame and also jealous that he (Simon) was an NFL draftee. I'm not bashing the cop either, but he already told his side of the story in the report that was released to The Advocate and to KATC (Lafayette), who released it to WAFB (Channel 9). Now, if the officer recants or reneges on his statement, that certainly would be interesting.

This isn’t a dispute about what you know or whether you or someone you know was in Eunice at the time of Tharold Simon’s arrest. As usual, you get on the Boards, shooting your mouth off (this time about Simon), calling him an a**hole, saying he was drunk, and how he needed to respect the man with the badge. I simply pointed out comments you made that indicated you didn’t read the article from the link JagBR posted. You contradicted yourself and embarrassed yourself (yet again) and in your typical fashion (again) you have a problem when I pointed this out to you. It doesn’t matter whether or not you were there; and since you like to get on TSPN and post like you know all things LSU or how you prefer to hang with the LSU crowd, you’d have no problem letting us know if you were there to see the former LSU player at a day honoring him; that lets me know that you weren't there. As a mother, I know and respect your reasons as to why you’re vested in LSU, and would expect nothing less from any mother who devotedly supports her child. That's your right. And as I stated before, if what I posted was false, then The Advocate will surely get sued for defamation (libel) and WAFB (Channel 9) will get sued for slander. Even if you did know someone who was at the scene, so what? CNN’s John King knew someone at the scene of the Boston bombings who said “a dark-skinned man” was arrested…….look how that turned out for him.


I told you sometime last year that you like to get on TSPN and dish out a lot of stuff. You talk so much mess but when others (particularly me and a few select others) call you out, you have a problem. You play the role of victim (something you don’t do very well, by the way) when someone doesn’t sit quietly and take this garbage you spit. You get mad, curse folks out, and have often told some posters to go fvck themselves; you embarrass yourself every time you post on TSPN. And it’s obvious that you’re upset because (and t his is something I’ve also told you before) you’ve allowed so many to see you for something other than what you claim to be.


As for the friendly advice…..well, just because I was and will always be cordial and polite to you (and others on the Boards) does not mean I was extending the invitation to be your friend. I will always carry myself with poise and dignity and be courteous to all, even when it’s not given to me. But perhaps you’d like it better if I talked to you like those folks in Tigerland or the folks on TigerDroppings.com? Maybe you could relate to that better than the friendly advice I tried to offer you.
