SHOULD THE BOOMBOX CLASSIC BE IN JACKSON....

You are correct. It has been an odd series for the most part since the 90s. We win in Jackson and JSU has had success in BR/NO. But we have beaten JSU lately in BR. We have won the last 3 times in BR. 96,98, 2005. The rest were either played in Jackson or New Orleans. We are 1-2 against yall in New Orleans. 00, 02 yall won. 04 we did. Actually JSU has done better against us in Jackson lately. We won in 99 and 2003. Yall won in 01, 06. So we split.

True true. Looks like the series is evening out.

I disagree. I really wasn't feeling the game when it was in New Orleans. ~shrug~

I do like the atmosphere of the game in Memorial, but wouldn't want to have it there full time

Co-Sign frat. New Orleans has no where for us to tailgate. At least we can do that in BR. The atmosphere there is so bland without that. Heck if the Classic was not the Classic with its own unique atmosphere then I wish we could tailgate for that too.

Back to the Question ..... HELL NO!

I like coming up there, but ain't no way in Hell would I give up a home game to JSU or anyone else for that matter. WE are not Alcorn.

Mumford is calling kiddies .....

Southern would be crazy to give up their home field. I say leave the game as it is. It's by far the best home-and-home series in BCF. No domes, no "classic" commercialism. The game stands on its own.

1000% NO!!.

Really and truly I don't like classics between rival conference schools. Those games should be played on each colleges home campus.

Except the BC lol

Well yeah, but that's a game between in state schools.:D So that does not count.

Did anyone post about the OU and Texas Red River Classic? Is it held in Dallas every year or does the location alternate between Oklahoma and Texas?

Also, you cheated po Big Daddy twice (1996 and 1998). ...and unless you go back and hire Mike Vite, you won't be able to stop the JSU offense.

Was 1996 the year someone from Southern cut the brake line on JSU's football team bus and the football team was late arriving at Mumford? The next trip to Baton Rouge, Carson hired a guard to watch the bus.

Dallas every year.

Hell to the nawl....

That's another problem with "us."...Every time we have a big rivalry game that can stand on its own, somebody wants to turn it into a classic or some other crap.

The SU-Jackson St. game is a TRUE home-and-home rivalry game. Either school would be stupid as hell to give up playing in mumford or memorial just to have some fancy schmansy title put next to it as some classic with some promoter taking a cut out of the pie.

SU-Alcorn is in the same vein, albeit a smaller game than SU-Jackson St. in terms of attendance and rivalry.

Dallas every year.

In a way Classics are nice entertainment for the fans. But classics don't do anything for the cities for where the colleges are located. The revenue that is spent in the larger cities could just as well go to the small merchants in these college towns.

Take for instance, like Grambling,Louisiana/Ruston,La. If Southern were to play in Grambling, could you imagine the revenue the home town businesses would make?

Even the Delta Literacy Classic between GSU&UAPB now being held in Little Rock is not doing anything for the local businesses in Pine Bluff. How can the local business community help their local colleges when most of the games and the revenue is kept in the larger cities where the classics are played?

L Naw! I still say one when we host it, switch it up. 2007 Baton Rouge, 2009 New Orleans etc.

No....Cause SU will fix their issue with the Board of Supervisors, etc to get their stadium FINALLY expanded...........................:upset:

when you OWN you own stadium....that means more money to you...
Less you have to pay back for leasing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah but the schools wouldn't make nearly as much from ticket sales.

True. And from the sponsors too.LOL. I know GSU and UAPB were paid well last year by Bancorp South.$$$$$. GSU gave up the home field advantage for the game. This year it's AT&T.$$$

Anyway, just a thought though.

Newsflash Sarg, JSU plays at Memorial for FREE, just in case you forgot.

As a JSU fan, I would say YES!! The environment is much more exciting and electric and more importantly, safe.

As an su fan, I would say HECK NO, regardless of the cheating, the bullet ducking, the destruction of visiting fans property and the gigantic traffic jams.

Like Journalist said, this game stands on it's own merit. Doesn't need to be turned into a classic.

Yep that was the year.....it was either the brakeline or I think someone put something in the gas tank......and when JSU finally arrived, we got a delay of game penalty on the kick-off. Then the shooting started shortly after and the refs and players were all layin' on the ground.

I say it should be in Jackson every year. JSU normally tries not to play in deplorable conditions. That is why we did not take our band to TxSo last year. We don't do our students like that.

However, I know that SU fans deserve the game to be played in hell every other year.

It might be worth checking into though to get this game in a neutral site on the years that the game doesn't count. JSU-SU in St.Louis, Detroit, Indy, or Chicago would be hot!

TP, I was thinking the same thing with that bottom statement of yours when I was in Chicago. Could you imagine that game in Detroit or Chicago. Indy already got their own thing with the CCC. St. Louis might work. Hell we could go out West. LOL. But I am not really for playing each other if the 7 game mandate rolls either of us off the schedule. But if the powers that be decide we need to play during years we are not counting as a SWAC game, then hell yeah market that game somewhere. LA, Chicago, Detroit, Vegas come to mind. Don't know how JSU alums stack up out West. But I do know there are a ton of folks from the SIP out there. Most of my people are out there in LA , Oakland or in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland. Only the youngsters of the family moved to the ATLs and such.

I think the best atmosphere for the game has always existed in Jackson, simply because more people can actually see the game, as compared to playing in BR.

But Southern would be crazy to give up a home game (guaranteed sellout) every other year....

Maybe there needs to be a compromise. In the years when JSU/SU is played in BR, we play a 'spring game' in Jackson. Can you imaging 50,000 for a spring game????

:tup::tup:

GR brought this up a long time ago.

This game should be Played in jackson every year with a split gate to accomodate SU cost of travel. JSU has the best venue to play this game. Mumford is not good enough to host this game even "if" the upgrades ever happen. SU fans love coming to Jackson because they finally have a chance to spread out, relax, have fun, enjoy a college atmosphere without the fear of violence, and they are accomodated well. They can either stay in town or "go home" after the game.

This is a money maker that should be taken advantage of, but some folks will be too sced to make it.

@ GR's subliminal smack at SU.

NEW ORLEANS, NO!
I'm not crazy about he game when held in BR, but please dont hold it in N.O. again.
I love the game when its in Jackson but I can do without it being a Classic.

.........EVERY YEAR??? Maybe this has been discussed but because it's basically a neutral ground, the tailgating is OFF THE CHAIN and the comradery(sp?) is really good, maybe this should be in Jackson every year. Discuss...

No smack from other schools please. If you're from another school and got something positive to say, cool.

discuss.......

What classic is this? Never heard of it.

BOOMBOX CLASSIC.:cry::goof:

Who created this and when?
Am I out of the loop or something.

@ GR's subliminal smack at SU.

No smack there JR.....GR said this a long time ago. Those are all facts. And just cause you name the game "This and That Classic" doesnt make it something bad. As long as you dont get some promoter involved, youre OK? Thats not needed. JSU and SU could split a 1.8 million dollar gate every year and we wont have to pay NBC to televise the game. Deal with that FACT and leave the bull behind.
