Lesbian chased out of NYC bathroom settles suit

NEW YORK (AP) ? A popular restaurant has agreed to pay $35,000 to settle a lawsuit with a lesbian who said a bouncer chased her out of the women's bathroom and forced her to leave because she looked masculine.

The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund announced the settlement Tuesday on behalf of Khadijah Farmer.

The Caliente Cab Company, while denying the allegations, also agreed to add gender identity to its nondiscrimination policy, amend its employee handbook with a section on customer restroom use and adopt a gender-neutral employee dress code.

Farmer said the confrontation at the Greenwich Village eatery occurred June 24 after she attended New York City's annual Gay Pride march.

Call me crazy....... but why would you want to do all you can to look like a man and get mad when you are treated like one?

I feel you, she may have manly traits in the face and body build, but wouldnt you want to try to dress like a woman to keep down confusion?

I mean was the guy at the spot supposed to say "show me your puss if you're really a woman?"

Every woman don't want to wear a dress or look girly and especially not to prove she's a woman or is feminine. And she doesn't have to be a lesbian to feel that way.

I'm not saying that I disagree that she shouldn't get upset when people think she's a man. But at the same time, she does has a right to dress and look however way she pleases and feels comfortable.
 
Not really....If its not accepted by your "community" you dont have that right.

You think a Man has the right to wear a prom dress to work?
Or what about a woman wearing a bathrobe?

Technically you might have the "right" but that dont make it right though

Crit she looks like a dude. I mean if she had on sweat pants and a cap but it was feminine then that's different. This chick has on a button down, slacks and square toed shoes. Nothing look lady like on her. When I saw this on the news I was like what the Heck you escpect dude...

A man in a dress would not even be addressed because he would look gross anyway and most people would stay away..

Reminds me of this dude I saw walking in to a Walgreens in Little Rock,Ar. It was on the black side and he had on a pink dress, mini skirt and make up. No wig or nothing. Skinny white dude. Noone would have messed with him cause he looked like a dude in a dress...:smh::smh:

I'm wondering the same thing! She looks just like a guy! I've seen so many women walking around here that look like guys. They dress masculine. I've seen some of them with some bad females also. :ebrow:

That reminds me a guy that I used to see at the Other Raytheon Facility I worked at in Tucson, AZ. There was a guy that worked there that decided he was coming out. He started wearing dresses and makeup. He looked gross. A lot of people he knew before he started cross-dressing started distancing themselves from him. He looked a mess. I think he even got a sex change.

On them thinking she was a woman at first.
She can't be mad at that cause if I saw her go into the woman's bathroom, I would have thought it was a man also.

Now once they found out she was indeed a woman, they should have explained, apologized, and left her and her friends alone.
They kicked them out for no reason so I don't have a problem with her getting $35 grand for being kicked out after the restaurant found out the truth.
