Shaq on Where His Son Should Play

You don't. You just do the things to make sure they stay out of trouble long enough to get what you want and then let them go ruin NBA teams.

Like you said it's only 4 months and in Cal's case he has to replace them as fast as he can because other teams who aren't suffering from that get better.
Which of Cal's players have ruined NBA teams?

Sometimes a coach is just in a bad situation. He will do well at Tech. Hewitt was a great recruiter but not an X and O guy. Signing all of those "one and done" guys did him in. Gregory was not a good recruiter (and you must have the talent in the ACC) but a good X and O guy. The coach we have now is a noted recruiter. If he can bring in some talent willing to stay 2-3 years, we will have our program back.
How was Memphis a bad situation? He took over a program that was drawing Top 25 recruiting classes.

Which stars are these guys putting out? Draymond for Izzo.... and who else?

Tom Izzo- Draymond Green, Zach Randolph, Morris Peterson

Coach K- I don't think I need to list his players

Bennett- Just got things rolling at UVA, but Justin Anderson will be legit. He left Washington State after coaching Klay Thompson for only 1 year.

Self- Deron Williams, Mario Chalmers, some of the others were 1 and done players

Wright- Kyle Lowry and Randy Foye

Randy Foye, Mario Chalmers and Mo Peterson are/were star players?

And I don't think you could contribute their NBA successes to their college coaches, though.

When did I say that? All I said was that Johnny Jones and Calipari wouldn't the coaches to top my list of teaching my son "next level" stuff unless they were already at the superstar level talent wise. Y'all were the ones that turned it into a different discussion. lol

I asked for stars. You gave me 3 and a possible.

When did I say anything about stars? It's easy to see that those coaches do much better job of coaching their players than Johnny Jones and Calipari. Jones has done nothing, and Calipari can't win even while having the most talented teams each season. Like I said, those 2 wouldn't top my list of coaches. I watched for quite a few seasons seeing Billy Donovan take it to Calipari and his NBA all-star team in the SEC with no where near as much talent. lol

Calipari's players would have been just as successful playing for the other Powerhouse programs. Ben Simmons likely would have had a more successful college season at another school too.Answer this, what would Calipari's record look like if he had a team like Tony Bennett at Virgina?

And you know doggone well that Coach K has a ton of "stars"/ former "stars" in the league(one made the game-winning 3 in the NBA finals).

So you just hold it against him that he is a better recruiter than those guys who rarely get and dones.
Name one player Calipari made better..one player who was marginal and Calipari developed them into a star.

Calipari does nothing but roll the ball out and say go get em...thats why he gets exposed in the ncaa tourney each year

He doesn't recruit marginal players. But that Umass squad was definitely coached up.

And don't forget Memphis. He went to three Final Fours and a national championship with only one player (Derrick Rose) who anyone would consider a star player.
D Rose might be the only NBA star player, but that team was loaded with talent compared to other college teams that season. Douglas-Roberts, Joey Dorsey, and Robert Dozier were legit college players. Their game just didn't translate on the NBA level. After D.Rose left, he had Tyreke Evans for the next season. Come on now, Calipari had top recruits rolling into Memphis like it was nothing. More interesting is the fact that both the UMASS and the Memphis National Runner-Up teams had their wins vacated................

No I'm just saying he's a great recruiter and player manager and not a good in-game coach when competing against teams that aren't significantly inferior to his talent-wise.
