Texas optimistic Shaka Smart will accept offer to coach Longhorns

Representatives from Texas are in deep discussions with VCU's Shaka Smart about becoming the Longhorns' next head coach, and Texas officials will be surprised if he doesn't eventually accept an offer, a source told CBSSports.com on Wednesday afternoon.

Whether Smart will actually accept remains unclear.

But Texas officals are optimistic, a source told CBSSports.com.

HornsDigest.com is reporting that Texas is trying to finalize a 5-year deal.

Austin is different. Real different. This ain't your Texas of old. Yeah some good ole boys still remain. But Texas A&M is way more redneck than UT. Austin is over run by an influence of Kenn's homies from Cali. Lol. Univ of Texas is way more diverse than folks realize.

JR, austin's level of redneckism is no differing than bryan/college station's level of redeckism or houston's or dallas or fort worth's blah blah blah. There is ONE common denominator: redneck. The describing adjective may be differing between each but the bottom line is the place is still full of and SURROUNDED by rednecks whose ONLY desire is to see little black boys and black girls perform on the athletic fields of play, like their grandpappys and grandmammys did along w/ those who preceeded them. :) Bewildered speaks truthisms. It hurts but it's the truth.

I'd be hurt if Condie... well, let me shut up. She'd do what is in the best interest(s) for her current and future status. Hopefully if she were to accept, she'd help to foster even more required change in those people's structure (mentally first and foremost lol) in terms of diversification. They severely lack over there, imho. For me, I'd never accept a position on their campus in this lifetime. I'd rather pick trash up along the freeway than accept a position on their campus.

You grew up here so I'd expect you understand my angle. A leopard CANNOT change its spots OR its desire to devour you. Once you identify the animal as a carniverous leopard, you treat it like a carniverous leopard. Redneck ut-austin will ALWAYS be redneck ut-austin. Even the very creation of the school is of a racist origin. The "good" white people of texas were so incensed that a school of higher learning was created for colored youth, aka Prairie View A&M University, (along w/ then segregated tx a&m-b/cs simultaneously) that they thought it best to create their own, just for themselves in austin. It's my understanding that the racist powers that be of texas also threatened to close down tx a&m b/cs, move it (the land grant) to san antonio, and rename the school "The School for the Negroe Insane," something along those lines. (google it :) ) Coach Strong and that ladies coach are (were, track coach) in the middle of that fight I'm sure Mr Smart is aware and should be versed in how to play the "game" w/ those people. To him I would say, get the $$$ from the clowns and then distance self away from them into retirement, kinda' sorta' like all of us are doing in the professional world presently. :D

Lol. You obviously don't know Austin. You do realize Obama had more votes in Austin than Romney. Houston definitely ain't redneck. You do realize there is an openly Lesbian Mayor. Now the burbs may have their elements. But if you think Austin is as redneck as Bryan/College Station then you have not been around Austin. Austin in weird like thein t-shirts say. Lol.

Bruh... I was SHOCKED when I first arrived in the CMH @ OhSt and those surrounding areas for a few years. I almost LMAO'd because I'd never encountered an actual skinhead and neo-nazi until I got there. I thought the north was where blacks escaped to flee from the auspices of racism and bigotry? lol I lived in Reynoldsburg and I vividly recall a FEW (very plural) guys a few clicks down from where I lived having confed flags painted atop their barns w/ all sorts of neo-nazi stuff about their farms - flags, billboards lol, burnt crosses lol, et al. Naturally, I encountered the SAME northern rednecks in slow-hio that I encountered in redneck texas while working there in the distinguished lab. They were highly degree'd staffers but just as blindly prejudiced like billie-bob-hank'nem here in tejas as they tried to conform between the hours of 8am-5pm EST lol :D. If they saw you in the parking lot outside the building, run jigga runnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!! They'd rev up their masserati's and attempt to have you accidentally beneath them as they drove over you.

Those same mf'ers had JR's chasing-white-kat azz secluded on High St around the "yuppies" so he didn't venture no farther away from State than Dublin, where golden-bear and his golf buddies were hanging out daily sippin' on cranberry martinis and such while eating gyros :D. Myself and a few smidget other brothers were attempting to hold it down out yonda' while being threatened to be hung daily and JR told us all to go to hell that he wasn't coming down that stretch of IH70 from campus, where it was safe. :D lmao

Yeah Austin is totally different from the rest of Texas. I remember when Rick Perry was talking all of that seceding from the Union mess and Austin started a petition to secede from Texas lol

JR, don't let those tea party republican spinoff wannabe democrat and liberal but not really fool you along w/ that large campus of 52K+ students who do not desire to "look" redneckish and also desire to "look" (culturally) aware. Look @ who PUSHED dubyah from his north tx residence to run for governiship of tejas and then president of the united estates. That epicenter was austin, sir.

Yeah there are redneck UT alums. But the majority of them don't live in Austin.

Actually it was the rural republicans, Dallas republicans and friends of HW Bush who pushed him to run. W is a true Texan. His connections go way beyond Austin. That city is not a republican stronghold. It's just the state capital.

Remember W sent one of his twins to UT. They certainly enjoyed the Liberal partying around Austin. Lol.

He lives in the metroplex because that's where he did a majority of his 'remote' lol dirt as a "part-owner" in the ranger's organization, as well as those underhanded dealings w/ the Bin Ladens et al from the middle east :O . And his "part-ownership" was on the level of a minority-owner, ftr ;). The good powermongers in austin came up ih35 to get him and decided to lie w/ the red/white/blue pony powermongers to entice ol' boy to carryout their desires, and take care of them and their(desires) in the future. I was in the metroplex and watched the whole thing unfold, as others did, right before our very eyes. Did anyone notice how the economy of tejas grew and flourished during dubya's tenure as pres while so many others suffered almost miserably? Methinks there were a LOT of behind the door shenanigans betwixt those hook'em horns people and the pony busters @ smoo, ala his pres library @ smoo.

No, I'm not saying he's a tea bagger, I'm saying the ppl who supported him are quite...borderline, literally and figuratively on their partisanship.
