SEC Wins Nat'l Title in Basketball Too


Will the SEC pass up the Pac 12 and ACC as the conference with most wins by the end of this decade? :lol: :emlaugh: Will Vandy, Florida, Missouri or Kentucky be the next SEC National Champion in basketball?
 
There was a time when the SEC was strong in basketball. There were players from Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi starring on not only teams from the SEC but also teams in other conferences. While I do not follow basketball recruiting like the biggest fan, I am noticing that some players are not playing for their home state SEC teams. Alabama use to have strong teams under C.M. Newton and Wimp Sanderson (T.R. Dunn, Robert Horry, Leon Douglas, Bobby Lee Hurt to name a few). Auburn has a few good teams. LSU went to a few final fours. Yet, I have noticed how some of the best basketball players in Alabama play out of state. DeMarcus Cousins is from Mobile. Eric Bledsoe is from Birmingham. Both played at Kentucky. On their 2010 team Butler had a couple of players from Alabama. Outside of Kentucky, Florida and maybe Vanderbilt, there is not as much excitement in SEC basketball. The ACC had a down year in my opinion, but I think that it was better than the SEC.

What I'm in disbelief of is the larger populous of ppl of color who are ridiculously naive to this "game" that's being played. Most of us, if you've played sports in a traditionally white atmosphere @ ANY level, have seen this game being played and could've given Rhoden pointers on his book 25+ yrs ago. Maybe some of the other schools, but they aint winning. Baseball, the MLB draft probably hurts us the most, since most of these schools still don't have a lot of blacks on the team. The issue now is, that as HBCUs, we sat on our collective arses and did nothing as times were changins. So now we paying for our laziness. These kids don't feel obligated to our schools. Even some of those who went to HBCUs had of been recruited by National Powers and been on TV like it is now, they would have probably went to play there too. Technology and all these recruiting services and tactics have now made it easier for the bigger schools to not miss on players that we got back in the day. Mid Majors also have done us harm too. Not just the big schools. Instead of players going to a Butler or VCU, they may have been at a HBCU.

I have to agree with a lot in these quotes. I hate to say it but do not see our mentality changing much in order for our schools to get the better players. We need to quit sitting on our collective behinds.

Ohio State is nothing in basketball that people will remember (sorry, I know it is your school). They kind of remind me of Jackson State football in the last 60's and early 70's. They were always good enough to be a contender but the only thing people remember is Grambling from that era. :lol: :emlaugh:

Since you counting Mizzou as an SEC school, they lost to a MEAC school in the NCAA tournament. LOL.

Again, outside of Kentucky and Florida. I see you rolled it back to 22 years so you could include Arkansas. LOL You aint slick MH. The SEC aint a better basketball conference than the Big 10 traditionally or now. Kentucky may be the best team. But the SEC as a conference is still beneath the Big 10 in basketball. Thank goodness for Kentucky for carrying that conference to 11 titles.

I just rounded it off to start from 1990, but even going with the 15 year time period that you used, the SEC still has 3 times more titles than the overrated, err, I mean big 10.

In comparison, how many does Ohio State have? How many Championships does the Big 10 have compared to the SEC (don't try to rationalize this the numbers please :lol: :emlaugh:)? Is Kentucky and the SEC the Big 10's DADDY?

Dude Ohio State will always be known period. LOL. If it wasn't for Bob Knight an Ohio State alum mentoring and coaching Coach K, Duke basketball would not be where it is now. Nor would Indiana basketball have won their share of titles. If it wasn't Ohio State alum and board member Clark Kellogg, the CBS game broadcast would be boring. Carry on.

JRock did you even go to a SEC school. The Big 10 has one less title than the SEC. I don't consider that so much better. THe SEC is not the Big 10's daddy in basketball. Last SEC school Ohio State played this year was Florida in Florida and kicked their arse. You just need to say Kentucky is good. The rest of the SEC.....

Nope.
Its the sports board and one the biggest events in college sports just ended. The SEC just happened to win it. If the SWAC had won it, we would be talking SWAC basketball. :lol:

Phreeze, JRock is just talking to stir the pot. Hell the SEC can't even keep their best basketball players in the SEC hardly. Charlie Scott's son left the state of Ga for Ohio State and it's looking like Ohio State may get Ga's best player this year possibly.

SEC basketball is Kentucky and Florida. With Kentucky being the big dog over time.

Hell no I didn't go to an SEC school. Is that the prerequisite for stating facts. Please stop bringing up Ohio State unless you're comparing them to Arkansas. Ohio State and Arkansas is the 1 championship teams. :lol: :emlaugh:

Well we sure know a school from Bama ain't going to get no where near a Final Four. Can't be losing to Missouri Valley Conference schools in the tournament.

I am sure you would have liked that. Actually I think we would have played better against Kentucky. Ohio State missed our opportunity last year by losing in the elite 8 with Diebler, Lighty and the center we had that allowed Sullinger to play PF instead of center. This team over achieved. Not enough size to beat Kentucky and not enough 3 point shooters. Diebler was a beast with those 3s which made it easier for Lighty, Buford, Craft, Thomas and Sullinger.
