Tony Moss' latest article on 1-AA football. He lets Alabama State and APB have it. Credits Southern and Jackson State for decent schedules next year.

Some quotes:
"The SWAC - Schedule Strength, 2002
Thumbs Up:
Southern...An upwardly mobile slate for the Jaguars, who play I-A Tulane and a pair of Southland foes in Northwestern State and Nicholls State.
Jackson State...Three quality non-conference opponents for the Tigers, who take on I-A Southern Miss, North Carolina A&T, and Tennessee State.
Thumbs Down:
Alabama State...Is this a schedule befitting the SWAC East champs? Miles, Morris Brown, Savannah State, Tuskegee, and Chattanooga. The Mocs, who finished 2-9 last year, are the best of the five. Now that?s lame.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff...Can the Golden Lions spell I-AA? Their only opponents outside the SWAC are Kentucky State and Lane. "

and of the....
Top Ten Weakest 1-AA 2002 Schedules:
#4. Alabama State
(Chattanooga, Tuskegee, Morris Brown, Savannah State, Miles)...Just when the Hornets had started to build something in their state, they loaded up with cupcakes. Not a good trend.
#6. Arkansas-Pine Bluff
(Kentucky State, Lane)...Allegations of coaches abusing players are nothing compared to this deplorable schedule.
******
To be fair to my SWAC friends, one Gateway team did make the Top Ten worst, Youngstown State. One did make it to the Top Ten toughest, Indiana State, but they got no business having such a tough schedule, weak as they are.
Anyway, thought this might be grist for the smack mill down south. Always glad to help!
