My school travels first class and second (JSU) is a distant second. None of you bama schools can touch that except for that "We playing our step brother" game yall got in October. Alcorn will even bring more fans to Mumford that either of the 2 Bama schools.

Lewie,

How can you even fix your mouth to say some garbage like that when you KNOW that SU only alots 50 or so tickets to visiting schools? :retard:

"We don't care about y'all...this is OUR stadium!", remember? ;)

I know you're trying to prove a point and all...but dayum. :smh: :D

LMAO@SU folks trying to act like there are no port a potties at Mumford

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

btw, folks shole can come up with some pie in the sky ideas on what the SWAC should be doing, as if we have an arseload of money laying around to call any shots we want to call.

Dude that "we ain't got no money" line is not a viable excuse to stop strategic planning or progress. If member institution's COP(s)are coaxed by their constituents, that game will move faster than a bama can say Forest Gump.

(as much as you all would like us to believe it, the SWAC is not Cabrini Green)

If it didn't matter then why is this the case?

So you have never been to a SU/JSU football game in Memorial Stadium.

I'm sure you don't set foot in Memorial when SU comes to Jackson.
THAT'S WHY IT DON'T MATTER.

Clarification: One you don't have a choice or control of it because it's that school home game and you're obligated to do so.

The other you have total control and choice and you aren't obligated to do so.

That isn't the question, let me restated my original question.

Again ...........................If that flag bothered people that much, none of ya'll would come to memorial for ANY GAME ..............FORGET THE SCG.

Ya'll show up in droves. That flag don't stop ya'll from buying a ticket from the TICKET OFFICE RIGHT UNDER IT.

No ...somebody help you out.

I know all about the history of that damm flag. I have lived here all my life.

And you still have not answered the question.
HAVE YOU EVER ATTENDED A JSU/SU GAME IN MEMORIAL?

Not wanting to play the SCG here because it's JSU's home field is a legit case for not having it here.

But saying that the because of the flag, people won't come? BULLSHAT.
Ya'll come every 2 years. :nod2:

Personally, I could care less where the game is played. :nod2:

Thanks Mike, I'll have to checkout the place the next time I pass throught there. Nothing here with that amount of space will be free unless the city/state receive a grant to cover the expense. I agree with you abount the planning. I know here in New Orleans the dome/convention center events are plan as far as 10 years in advance. And nobody is giving away anything. People wants to be paid. I personally think the game need to be played closer to the center of the SWAC. Nothing against Alabama but it's not/has no SWAC history. The Hall of Fame is there and we only been in Alabama since Alabama St joined in 198? Houston , Jackson, or Baton Rouge will be more appropriate. Some may want to make this a Bama thing but it isn't, it's about the history and the heart of the SWAC and where their biggest fan base is. The only big game in Alabama is when they both play each other. I hope the SWAC office is evaluating this/these issues and looking to improve the way/where we operate.

BG,

I'm glad you understand what I'm trying to convey to the others that are constantly bringing this topic up. But, I really would like to move the game from Alabama so that my point can be proven. I really want to see the presidents go back to their Board of Trustees and ask for more money, so that the championship game can be moved, to be member of this conference, and have the SCG at another location. I'm sure the cost of membership will double just to accomplish this and people on this board don't understand that.

Someone mentioned that the statement about the SWAC's finances are not the issue. Yes, they are an issue. The SWAC has to be prepared to take on any aspect of making contracts with vendors, protecting itself from lawsuits, and be able to pay for counsel to defend itself from lawsuits or dishonest vendors. If we put everything on the line and we generate no funds or just break even. We are arsed out! I guess that way we can get rid of the SCG all together as some want anyway.

As for the steps that have been taken to asure the members a financial return (From what I have learned recently) with the ESPNU deal. Most schools will make more money on the games that they are televising than they would on the in it's normal time/date. For instance, the last time AAMU played GSU in Shereveport, Louisiana there was about 9k in the stadium. The package that the SWAC has agreed to with ESPN will generate more money than it would have if that same 9k showed this year. There are some schools that will be making a killing such as SU and jsu (if they can start winning). All the others will be atleast getting more than they would normally for games that are usually low turnouts. In this case, people will see a return or atleast something positive from this endeavor.

Cuss..................you can put all the headshakes you want.

You still ain't answered the question.
Quit waiting on someone to help you. :nod2:

It's not a confederate flag. smh. The flag at the stadium is the MISSISSIPPI STATE FLAG..... It's kinda like how Alabama Car Tags have HEART OF DIXIE on them. I wouldn't want that sh*t on my tag...but it's the state tag...what can you do about it. .. .. I smh everytime i see a A&M or ASU tag with "heart of dixie" on it ..celebrating the nickname of the region that was known for racial oppression for years after emancipation.

lol... learn about your own flag even. Most of the old confederate states used designs similar to the confederate flag that they all once used as a show of loyalty even after the war. Alabama's flag was even designed to resemble the old confederate flag. So was Mississippi's.... The confederate design is in the corner of the Mississippi's state flag.... My point... all of our states Miss. Louisiana Alabama Texas Arkansas... have enough racial bullsh*t in their pasts to write thousands of books....none of us are in the position to say we're not going to have it their because of the racial history. lol. Sh*t we'd have to move the championships out of the south.

I say lets move it to Detroit. LOL.

FYI the star in the upper center of the Arkansas flag was added to represent membership and pride in the confederacy.

How about alternating the game from year to year to have the East/West representative to HOST the championship game. This way you don't have to compete with the high school championship games wrecking the fields.

Outside of a JSU/SU matchup, there is no need for a dome because it will not be many people attending.

Sounds good.

Call me late, but are you all trying to tell me that MS. is still holding on to the flag? "Those" people are still displaying that "used" toilet paper outside of government offices/buildings? That says a lot I'm sorry. Spin it all you want, but that some sad you know what. There is no excuse. I see dat thing flying outside people houses and just shake my head. Things of this nature just perpetuate the perception of the state especially if it hinders them from hosting revenue generating championship events. I guess those white people don't know that they can still be bigots without wearing that flag or a variation of it on their chest.

Yes it still flies proud. A few years ago there was a push to get rid of it. The effort failed. I wonder how much blacks pushed for the ban.

I thought I saw it at the CCC. A poster said it was not.

Agreed.

I would go to see my school under that trash. But I would not elect to have a championship there based on that fact alone.

Dahill, you don't get it. I don't GAF if they dug up the rose bowl and moved it to Birmingham, folks don't want to go to Birmingham, PERIOD. Let me reword it. WE DON'T WANT TO GO TO BIRMINGHAM. Let me try it like this. Birmingham, we don't want to go there. Maybe like this, Don't want, Birmingham, go to.
Lewis, my friend, I am scared. On this and other threads I have consistantly agreed with you and you make sense. lol

I would go see every SCG if it were more centrally located. (Well, except last year)

I notice people continue to mention money as a deterrent to moving the SCG. With my idea, money should not be a HUGE issue. All or most of the stadiums I mentioned are either conference stadiums (only cost should be a percentage to that hosting school) or stadiums that are not constantly in use, especially in December.

We had to hope that the Alabama HS Playoffs didn't tear up Legion Field too much last year .... that's ridiculous.

Independence Stadium, War Memorial in Arkansas, Liberty Bowl, Ladd-Peebles, legion Field, Roberston Stadium, we play in those stadiums right now ALREADY .... the rent couldn't be too much and each one would defenitely hold the corwds we have attracted.

This is not about Alabama being bad for the conference, It's about isolating yourself as a conference. We hold other conference championships all over the conference area, but our three majors are held in ONE city? Anybody see anything wrong with that?

Exposure is what we need .... the cameras will follow wherever we take our games if we do the right thing by them, but what's the incentive? Three times a year we go to one city ..... people say "Don't Come".

THAT doesn't help the conference or its members in ANY way.

SWAC .... be willing to change when you see something is not working for a change!

SUJag,

Say you have a credit card and it doesn't charge you interest. All they want is for you to make your purchases through them and pay on time and they will pay you an incentive for using their card. Well, here comes Capital 1 and they want you to make your purchases through them, but before you can make the purchase you have to pay a fee to gain the card and there is an interest fee for everything you purchase. Follow me. Your previous card didn't need all of that. They just wanted you to stay with them and they promise to give you free purchases without any fees as long as you pay on time.

Which card would you prefer?

Some people forgot that the city of Birmingham paid the SWAC for continuing to have the SCG at Legion Field. How many cities do you know of that are willing to do that? The SWAC came up with none other than B'ham.

To be honest, the city of Birmingham has already secured the land for a dome. They have made strides to get it built. I predict that by 2007 (the end of the current contract) the dome will be 1 year from completion and the SWAC will sign a contract with the city of Birmingham pending said completion in time for the 2009 SCG. Then, they will sign a multiple year deal.

If you don't show up, it won't be because of the weather. It will be because you never planned to participate in the first place.

Mike it's not about what Bham has done for the SWAC in incentives. Again for the millionth time people are simply tired of going to Bham every year bad weather or not.

Again this topic is about the flag issue and veteran memorial it?s not about Bham and certainly not hating on Bham because people don?t hate Bham they are simply tired of it.

Blue,

I know what the topic is about. I addressed SUJags comments. Can't you see that? I've already addressed the flag issue at the top of the thread. Now I urge you to look at the last few comments and tell me how far you have to go to get back to the real flag issue comments. Not just the small comments.

:smh:

Bad example. In each case, there is some benefit. What is the benefit of playing a game in a city that half of your conference has stated through not coming that they will not come for whatever reason (weather, travel, no interest, etc.)

Fact: I have made the last two trips to B'Ham for this game and froze out there both years.

You mentioned a dome ... well, the SuperDome is supposed to get renovations and so is Veterans Memorial. Are we supposed to use those just because they are getting a better situation like you say B'Ham is?

These are the true facts that no one can deny: Six years in B'Ham (We should say five because the first year was a abornomality) have produced similar results.
-- An Alabama team has been in those five.
-- A Louisiana team has been in those five.
-- The confernce puts on nothing to accompany the game.
-- Less than favorable weather has been the norm, especially the last two years.
-- The conference has tried nothing new.

Now, you answer this. If those two credit cards companies are working for your business, and you tell each one of them what you need to be convinced to become a member of theirs and after FIVE sessions, they still don't get it, what happens to that potential client? THEY try something else and the credit card company numbers are going down constantly (sounds like the SCG, don't it?)

My idea doesn't require huge rent money like some of you think. We have four conference stadiums over 20,000 seats (Alcorn, SU, AAMU, and JSU). I find it hard to believe that these schools would rail the conference for rent money. Then, we utilize several other stadiums that would be adequate with MORE seating and no permanent tenant: Independence Stadium, War Memorial Stadium, and Ladd-Peebles Stadium. I think we could organize any of these stadiums before the season started.

The problem is that the SWAC has LONG be afraid to challenge themselves to do better. Examples: state of SWAC Basketball, state of Eastern Divsion baseball, football decisions, etc.

I would not mind seeing the game moved to a more central swac location instead of the furthest swac state from all swac schools. I said once i was able i was not goin to miss anymore scg again, no matter where they are but some folks may not drive all the way to alabama to sit in the cold. We as fans are not like that. I like the idea of jackson, being it is more central to all schools and thier fanbase or I would love to see it rotate like the super bowl and see what home host of the scg could make it to the scg in their home town. I would really like to see the rotating scg sites. I want everyone to go the scg also but you have to capture the attention of our conference's casual fans and i really don't think the casual fan is going to drive to alabama without the scg putting on some sort of sideshow to attract fans.

You know what, I am tired of typing about this. I can sum it up in a few words.

uckf Birmingham, even if it is free.

I can't think of a worse place to play besides Little Rock (that's because from baton rouge, ain't no interstate hiway to get there with out going 100 miles out of the way)
