Samsung Epic 4g

So far it looks like everybody will have the non QWERTY version and this will be a Sprint exclusive. With the screen size I don't know if I would want a physical keyboard.

TV out on my iPod touch saved my life this pass Sunday. If I can’t have TV out or at least composite video on a device and most important be able to go buy a cable in Walmart on a Sunday at 8:30 am then that is a device I don’t need. You can do that with a iPhone, iPod, or a iPad. But forgive me this is not about apple products.

It doesnt need video out.. it has dnla sharing to do it wirelessly

Last Sunday I had no idea what DNLA sharing was, after looking it up I really still don’t. But that wouldn’t help when a projector malfunction and the only thing you have to use is a 15 year old projection screen TV. So you can pretty much guess that TV could not be an UPnP AV client. I think that iPod and that old TV worked better than that projector. However, I do see that DNLA sharing is good for at home but not on the road traveling light. Especially when something goes wrong and you have to come up with something quick. Finally, for the little bit I have read on DNLA sharing another problem is that there is still a lack of consistency in terms of what media formats each device can playback. Your PlayStation 3 might be able to recognize your PC but still won’t be able to play every video file it throws at it.

Sounds like you may be more interested in a phone with a projector. I believe there are some out there and LG has an Android phone with a projector in the pipe. Most of the Android phones coming out now have HDMI out which should do you fine for modern projectors and TV's. But you can't beat the projector being in your phone.

Let me apologize again because this tread was about the Samsung Epic 4g and I am talking about something else. I hate when other people do this and I am doing the same thing—that’s so hypocritical. But since I am out here now, I guess I will go on. I was looking at the LG eXpo because of the projector capabilities but it had windows mobile 6.5 which turned me off. However it would still be a good back up. Also, the HTC HD2 has TV out with component AV but again I did not want to fool with windows mobile anymore. You are right most android phones come with HDMI out but I was in a church in a small town with about 50 to 75 people and a TV with composite AV was the only thing they had. So I am just saying in that situation at that time an EVO 4g, Samsung Epic 4g, or a Droid Incredible would not have help me but an iPhone would have. Also, in the area I was in Sprint and T-Mobile does not have a signal so I could not have use Samsung Epic to even make a phone call, but everybody around who had an iPhone could. I could not use my own phone with is which is a T-mobile G1 so I had to use somebody’s iPhone to call Wal-Mart to see if they had the composite cable for my iPod touch. I could have connected that same cable to an iPhone and still been in business.

Now in the video YOU posted, it clearly stated that play back depends on variables. It depends on the TV, the cable, and the video format, which is cool if you are at home and you are in control of those variables. I am saying suppose you have no control of those variables then this phone will be something pretty in your hands for show. Some people just can’t call everybody backwards and still get paid. Some times you have to produce results under extenuating circumstances. With the iPhone/iPod of any generation, with a cable that’s sold in Wal-mart, if you can load the file on the device it will play on any TV made in the last 20 years. For some people they would rather have that kind of flexibility especially if you are going into a place and you don’t know what to expect.

The Incredible has TV out through the headphone jack. The epic has it as well in addition to hdmi and dnla.

What he doesnt realize is that you can do the tv out hack with pretty much ANY smartphone through the headphone jack. I had it done with my touch pro AND touch pro 2. You dont need a special jack for that but im taking hdmi out for movies over iphone/ipod any day.

I am not talking about a hack. Every body doesn’t know how to hack. You might find this hard to believe but most people don’t want to know anything about it. If I am not telling the truth then the iPhone would not be as popular. But I will quit and leave this alone. Besides, I am not into smart phones anymore or what most people consider a Smartphone. This G1 will probably be the last one I own because I just purchase an iPad Wi-Fi yesterday to go with my Verizon 2200 mifi. So I can use my G1 or just about any phone for GPS and I don’t have to change phones every six month because of fears of Android’s fragmentation.

Personally I dont buy Apple products because for what they do they arent worth the money... the IPAD and IPHONE especially. And I dont care about fragmentation because when my phone does all it needs to do out of the box WITHOUT a jailbreak then updates arent as essential to me so... 2.1 is fine. And Apple users will buy that stuff regardless THATS why its popular. You have 1.7 million folks that bought a phone the first 3 days that you cant even grip in your hand without it losing reception. Why? Just plain silly. I will give you one thing though, the iphone is what I call the smartphone for dummies. And thats no offense but the bottom line is half of the features they "tout" that phone having most of even the simple smart phones have had for years.

Hell technically you could call THAT fragmentation... add 3g and mms? Buy a new phone. Add video and copy and paste? Buy the 3gs please... add multi-tasking... well really I wont even call it multi-tasking, but add app switching and a screen supposedly so great the human eye cant see it...new phone purchase. The ONLY thing Apple i'd even consider is an ipod and more than likely not since my zune has more space and plays more formats. It took me actually buying a 3gs to see what all the hype was about.. which isnt much.
